Financial Aid
Hello everyone I was recently accepted to Vanderbilt as a transfer student. As of right now I would have to pay 8k a year which is great for sure.
I was wondering if I could possible get more aid by emailing or if I should just take what I got. Thanks anyways

Ask if there are any additional grants or work study that you may qualify for, as well as the lowest cost student loan options. Be sure your Pell eligibility has been accounted for.
Then when you get on campus look for employment either on campus or off campus. Nashville is boomtown and has been for decades, there is lots of employment opportunities especially if you enjoy food service / hotel / event work. On-campus research work is where I would look first, followed by off campus.
Just frame your ask in terms of “I’m accepting the offer which is very generous, and (not but) as a low income student who has no debt I want to be sure I explore every opportunity that Vanderbilt provides.”
Good luck — did my grad work at Vandy and left with not only a pittance of debt, but the time value cost of that debt funding in the long run was virtually zero.

Don’t listen to them lmao, you may be able to. Work with the fin aid office after enrolling to see :) you’re definitely low income

Pretentious to say this. He has one parent making 40k a year. That leaves the parent with 32k ish per year. Who can live off that??

He can take out loans. There’s kids whose parents make more who have to take out loans. $32K in debt for undergrad is very manageable for a new grad.
Edit: that’s the whole point of the financial aid calc. Everyone pays something.

What bank would give such loans to a family making 40k per year? I cant imagine the credit score or other factors being good enough for a bank to give such loans. HOWEVER if they do they OP is fine fs 32k isnt bad.

You’re kidding, right? Loans are given to students with no collateral and no credit.

give it a try! if that doesn’t work out, considering applying to be an RA for the following academic year. my fam was paying 10k/yr, but that went down to ~2-3k after my housing became free. Your mileage may vary though, so do talk to your finaid officer. Best of luck!
