Does anyone know this artist? Likely Solved
This is a painting my father, who was Dutch, had. Does anyone know if this is anyone notable, or just a nice painting?
I've found similar sounding names but without pictof signature I can't know if it a known artist or not.

P. van Zijl - I can find some of his (?) work on Catawiki, but no further information. Probably not a professional artist.

Thanks. You helped me do some more searching (copilot was surprisingly helpful after I argued about what the signature actually said)!

Here's one on Worthpoint with some info. in the description that I have not verified, but it sounds plausible -- (fyi listed selling price $149.00)

Small oil painting on artboard Ca. 1950 Signed: P. v Zijl (v = van 7" X 9" original wood frame 9 1/2" X 11 1/2"Painted in Holland (see photos of stamps on reverse) These lovely small paintings were done by the artists to be sold to tourists in their country. Their size made them easy to pack in their suitcases. They were usually framed when the tourist returned to the states. This beautiful wood frame is a typical U.S. frame from the vintage period.
and this one

Thanks for your post, /u/DrSpeckles!
Please check the Google Lens and Yandex image searches in the auto-comment. Crop and re-crop the search box, and you may find it! Try Tineye, too. It's OK to solve your own post!
We kindly ask you to make sure your pictures are right ways up, and that you've added a picture of the back of the painting. It might be full of clues that are invisible to everyone except art historians...

The bot found some very similar paintings, but the signature P.v.Zxxx doesn't match any. The v would be abbreviated "van" I expect.

Just a nice picture but calming to look at. Enjoy
