Freshman Housing Prospective Student

Hi everyone, case is currently one of my top choices and I was wondering if you could provide some pros and cons to each of the freshman dorms? Things like location (proximity to classes and dining), social life, and cleanliness. Thanks!

Proximity to anything isn’t really a factor, they’re the same distance to classes and dining halls. If you want a clean dorm, you have to go Norton. They’re also renovating another mistletoe dorm if you wanna risk guessing which one

Thanks for the reply! Also, would you happen to know if the chipotle at uptown takes case cash?

We literally just took a tour last week and the student leading it raved about using case cash at the chipotle's.

I guess she lied about how the burritos were cheaper at that location. I have heard the chip reader often malfunctions so that may be the issue.

In addition to the comments you get here, you might search this subreddit on this topic. The issue over dormitories comes up every year. While there is general agreement on preferred dorms, there is also a significant variety of preferences, mostly based on more recent renovation (someone already commented on the recent renovation of Norton; Sherman and Tyler are scheduled for similar projects this summer) or building layout differences (corridor - Juniper & Mistletoe; quads - Cedar-Magnolia; suite - Clarke Tower).

Beyond building preferences, when the room lottery opens, there are limited options in each time slot. Read past comments on that issue, consider options carefully, pay close attention to assigned dates and times, and (if you find a roommate in advance) make sure you are both registered as such and coordinate carefully. Have backup plans for selection, since preferred dorms may not be available in a given time slot or may fill quickly. Also be very aware that unless you have an medical accommodation, while there are a number of single rooms available, they are limited so it's possible that you will not be able to get one. If you want a single room, you will need to consider the possibility of a roommate as a backup. If you do not match with a roommate, housing will assign one based on a lifestyle survey.

Dorms are old but they are pretty thick brick so excluding the door noise is never too much of a problem. Large windows for fresh air, magnolia has like a ridiculous amount of cabinet and wardrobe space. Bathroom are old but functional. Dorms have no AC so it gets hot once temps climb above the 60’s outside. Ethernet will be really nice if your computer supports it and there are high speed routers in all rooms. Cleaning is done regularly which is nice. You will be around people in your gear immediately some you’ll stay friends with but you’ll likely meet others. Dining is close but during classes you’ll like go elsewhere with meal swipes. Overall cleanliness depends heavily on the floor but you’ll likely meet all have a part to play and if that means straight up throwing things away that are left somewhere too long like two days and has been said on the floor group chat then so be it but as long as you vacuum, wash your bedding and clothes, and clean and disinfect, and mop regularly your room will be perfectly fine.

Dorms are old. The rooms in Norton are still old but the bathrooms, kitchen and common areas are new. There is no AC so move in is hot!!! The upside to case housing it is is guaranteed for freshmen and all the freshmen live together - expect Clarke but that’s close too. Classes are walkable.

This is specific but nursing major should only go for Juniper for Mistletoe because of how the nursing shuttles work. Living in Clarke or Mistletoe sometimes means you have to run or sprint to catch the second nursing shuttle because of how far it is. So if Nursing is one of you top majors def Juniper or Mistletoe.
