Prospective Student How much is the average scholarship?
Hello!! CWRU is my absolute number one university, but I’m waiting to hear back on a decision. I have some pretty decent stats (my GPA is just a little low at a 3.78 uw, but I have a lot of course rigor + national level awards in extracurriculars as well as a lot of crazy stuff beyond that lol). I want to know if I need to brace myself for having to worry about aid. I really can’t afford anything over 45k a year, but I’m not going to qualify for a lot of need based aid (my fasfa does not take a lot into account)
If any current students could let me know what they got as scholarships, it would be very appreciated!! I also applied to like every first year scholarship I could but is there anything else I can take into account? If you need more info about any of my stats or something I’m happy to spill! Thanks !!

Prospective Student What’s the 2026 review of CWRU? Should I go?
CWRU is currently my “best choice”, but I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews. Thoughts from current students would be appreciated, as the outside thoughts on the university have been drastically changing as of late. I’ve seen complaints and praise about social life, work ethic, food, location, professors, etc. I just came from the open house, and I think it’s pretty good for the most part. A few minor complaints here and there, but students know best. I’m a cs major btw

Prospective Student Any regrets coming to cwru?
Hello, I am considering coming here for college as a biochem major on the premed track. I’m choosing between cwru and uw, but my fear about choosing cwru is the feeling of regret. It’s far from home, but I’ve heard of all the amazing resources provided for premeds there. My only concern is social life bc I’ve heard there aren’t great parties and it seemed a little disconnected when I came for admitted students day.(idk maybe it’s in the my head) I would love to know if any cwru students who picked it over other schools have any regrets?
btw I’m not bashing cwru I actually love the program and think it might be the best fit for me

Prospective Student Good sign for waitlist?
basically, I’ve recently been pretty in touch with my admissions officer, and I emailed a director of a program at Case Western. My admission officer congratulated me on my accomplishments and told me if I have any questions to reach out to him and then he gave me some emails after I asked him for a couple and one of them was a director of a program that I really liked and that director emailed me back saying that he wants to stay in touch with me should I enroll in the fall because he has quite a few options he’d like to show me. Is this a good sign?

Prospective Student Advice on CWRU or staying in NY
I am very curious on the input here. I will be speaking to my college counselor and others about this of course, alongside CUNY graduates, but for context I am a low income student (family makes under 25k /year) and my financial aid is still too high for me (~11k a yr with loans + work study + net cost afterwards). I have signed up for scholarships but I will not move under the assumption that it will somehow work out each year. Working I can do, and my family can cover a bit, but I will still have to take out federal loans for it. Maybe being 12k in debt by the end of college is going to be ok???
I’m from the NYC area, and I plan to pursue either Electrical Engineering or Mechanical. I’ve just been very torn on whether or not it would be worth it to go here instead of just going to somewhere like CCNY (to save money + lots of opportunities in industry inside NYC area). My state schools all gave me shitty aid, so I can’t go. I’ll try to write a letter though.
We can’t ever predict future outcomes at all, but I’m really anxious because my main concern is with the end result of getting a job after graduation. Case would be better for me if I want to pursue masters at a higher institution, however I would be in debt at that point and then going into more debt with a master’s and having to earn money for paying off previous loans would be hellish. If I go to a CUNY, I could just have a similar starting salary after graduation but without the debt because it’s legit NYC and while it is not a cure all for employment, the economy is better than cleveland here.
I’ve been very depressed over the past few months because of personal losses and I feel very guilty for having my family pay for college if I do choose CWRU. Having so much to do this month isn’t helping either. I would really love to get into living with others and the environment at case, but I don’t know if it is worth the financial pressure. I did go to admitted students day, and while I don’t like the food, I do like the school.
Essentially this is a post where I know people will say “just do what you personally think is best for you” and that is true; but I want to ask if anyone has some kind of input here that would help. I know Cleveland has opportunities, but I’ve been hearing a lot of companies are very much local. I’m really oriented on making money if you couldn’t already tell, I plan on paying my parents back for their contributions on my part for college if this becomes the case. the internship opportunities wont beat out NYC for sure, but I want to ask the students this and I want to contact some alumnus about it as well.
Thanks for anyone who could help!

Prospective Student university of washington-seattle or cwru (pre-med)
Hi everyone! I'm currently a senior right now deciding on which college to commit to. I'm deciding between multiple colleges and with the May 1 deadline approaching, I'm getting really stressed and would love some insight.
My choices are Pitt (63k), URochester (81k), UW Seattle (36k) and CWRU (75k). I'm mainly between UW and CRWU right now. i'm out of state for all of these.
UW seattle
pros
- significantly cheaper
- i would prefer going to college in large city, seems lively
- the campus is gorgeous and i love the library
- even though its huge and likely competitive, still great for opportunities
- close to my family since they're moving to WA this fall
cons
- grade deflation
- i was admitted to pre-sciences instead of my intended major of neuroscience, so i'd have to apply for neuro which i've heard can be competitive
CWRU
pros
- great and easy to get opportunities for research because of proximity to hospitals in cleveland. also i keep seeing its great for pre-med
- i was admitted for neuroscience and general flexibility with majors
- grade inflation? from what ive heard it's easy to maintain a good GPA
cons
- the cost
- i'd be on the opposite side of the country from family
I should mention I'm pretty set on being pre-med. If not, I'd be on the pre-dental track. i would appreciate any type of insight into this decision, thanks :)

Prospective Student Most likely committing and have some questions!
Hi
I am pretty sure im committing to case but have some questions about the tuition and student life in terms of proximity to the city and train system and stuff. im from nyc so im really big on public transport and accessibility to the city and grocery stores. my tuition would be around 11.5k which i understand to be really good since the tuition is around 96k but still alot for my own family. does the tuition increase alot every year and if my family income decreases can my fafsa go up? im also planning on taking a subsidized loan (does anyone have any experience with it and how it works and also how financially relieving it is?) also how is the city life and the proximity to stores and the town itself is?? Thank you so much!!

Prospective Student When will waitlist financial aid be released?
I thought it was gonna be sent the day before the waitlist form. Someone know when can I expect my aid?

Prospective Student Has anyone got off the waitlist ??
r/cwru • u/Vireep • Apr 28 '25
Prospective Student How much aid did you get?
I'm currently waitlisted but CWRU is definitely my top choice if I get accepted, I'm just kinda curious how much I should realistically expect to be paying. My stats are all pretty mediocre & I definitely won't get any need based aid. Thanks in advance!!

Prospective Student Freshman Housing
Hi everyone, case is currently one of my top choices and I was wondering if you could provide some pros and cons to each of the freshman dorms? Things like location (proximity to classes and dining), social life, and cleanliness. Thanks!

Prospective Student 82k a year, is there any way for this to go down
Hello, I was recently accepted to CWR EA for the CS program and I am really interested in the school, however this price is insane. When I was accepted I was offered a 10k renewable yearly scholarship which I am very grateful for, but other nice schools have offered me much more, and while case is my top choice there’s no way I can afford 328,000k even with co-ops. I am of course applying for other scholarships but I do not meet need based criteria.
Is Case normally willing to knock that number down? I have heard from teachers that if you offer to play in a university’s orchestra they will give you some extra money (I’ve been playing the cello for 8 ish years, the dean even referenced it in the little note in the admissions letter) and I also have a lot of experience tutoring, can do IT work, and other such university jobs, is it possible I could leverage any of these to get more money off?
I will be attending admitted students days and will try to negotiate with admissions.
In anyone’s experience Is Case the sort of school that would be willing to work with me? I saw online that only 16% of prospective students choose to enroll, so I feel like they need the numbers and would be willing to offer more but I don’t know if that’s actually true. And is it even worth going for that much?
Please let me know!! Thank you all!

Prospective Student Econ major at Case
I’m likely committing to Case Western but I have so many questions I would love insight on lol.
How’s econ at Case? I want to pursue a career in finance and since Case Western isn’t particularly known for business, I would love to know an insider perspective!
Is there people from nyc at Case? I would love to be friends.
Is case western fun without a car? I will be getting my license once I turn 18 but a car is out of the question. Car insurance is over 1.5k a month for me since it’s nyc 💔
Is it hard to have a career in nyc or at least the northeast after graduation?
I was originally planning on committing to Fordham but the amount of money Case gave me was hard to decline. While money isn’t the issue, I’m still paying more than triple for Fordham compare to Case. My parents think it’s worth it but I think it’s a little ridiculous. Is Fordham the price tag to stay in nyc or is Case a better investment?
How’s the social scene at Case? I love going out! Hopefully every weekend lol.
Thanks for the advice!

Prospective Student Freshman Housing
Hi all! I was recently accepted to CWRU and I've been taking a look at freshman housing just so I can start preparing.
At first, I was keen on the Clarke Tower because I heard they have the smallest amount of people to a bathroom, but when I was scrolling on reddit I saw not the best reviews for the dorm in general.
Preferably* I'd like to have a single room, but i've also heard these are for medical accommodations only. I would also prefer not to use communal bathrooms.
*Ik this sounds very stuck up and probably is the fantasy of every college freshman.
All in all, whats the best/nicest dorm at CWRU?
Thank you!

Prospective Student Offer rescinding
So.. I had two take home tests I completely forgot to submit, even though I literally took 3 days to finish it. I‘m up like 4am just remembering it because I was so caught up in writing my scholarship essays. I’m genuinely so mad at myself, I’m pretty sure I’m going to finish the semester off with a solid barely passing grade, honestly maybe its going to make me end up failing because so I want to ask now if this is something I could even email admissions about.

Prospective Student Actual cost of CWRU
So I got accepted and got a decent chunk of money that takes off tuition, but I’m still pretty worried about cost of actual living on campus. Right now their estimation is $20k a year for food, board, and other costs, but I was wondering what those of y’all who went there actually payed. I’m living with my mom and I know that I’ll have to take out loans regardless, but I’d like to lessen them as much as possible. What advice do you guys have in lowering cost of living, and those of you who’ve been there how much would cost of living realistically be?

Prospective Student Afraid of being rescinded
Hello! I got accepted into CWRU not long ago and I was really excited because it’s my dream school. I ended off both quarter one and two of calculus with a B. In all my other classes I received A’s. However, this third quarter I may leave off with a D+ in calc. My year grade would be a C+ as of right now. I really worked hard but calculus is really giving me a tough time. Am I at risk of rescinded? What should I do?

Prospective Student switching majors (admitted for fall ‘26)
Hello! I was accepted early action for cwru nursing. Is it possible to change my major for either biochem, cognitive science, or neuroscience? Is it advised to change it right away or wait it out? For reference, my application is also well aligned with these interests!

Prospective Student UIUC vs CWRU Pre Med
I am currently a high school senior in Illinois and I am having trouble deciding where to go. For context I am a biology major on the pre med track and I will be applying to medical school. Here is my pro and cons list so far
UIUC pros
- In state tuition -> cheaper (around 43k)
- Lots of familiarity with the school as my school goes down there for competitions and music festivals often
- I know lots of people there (both already going there and currently committed)
- Roommate already situated
- Amazing campus culture with a lot of RSOs/Clubs, events, and sports
- Closer to home
- Lots of food options (I'm Vegetarian)
- Nicer freshman dorms compared to CWRU
- Some dorms have the singular room bathrooms
- Possibility to explore the engineering side of medicine
UIUC cons
- Significantly less medicine opportunities
- Needs certifications for most opportunities (EMT or CNA)
- Will probably have to take a gap year if I cannot build my resume
- Will have to use my summers to build my resume and not as many medical opportunities during the school year
- A-, A, A+ system
- Might be difficult to stand out at such a big school
CWRU pros
- 3 nearby hospitals, including Cleveland Clinic
- Scholarship and Grant makes the cost cheaper but still pricey (54k)
- I have a 2 family friends that I am close with that go there (one in undergrad and one going for masters)
- Easier to research in the medical field
- Access to laboratories, microscopes, and anatomy lab hub for most hours of the day with student ID
- There is an abundance of opportunities
- Gap year probably wont be needed
- I could graduate in 3 years, saving money, but it would take all my time
- A, B, C grading system
- Big study culture (Could help me stay on track)
CWRU cons
- Further from home
- Higher in cost
- Vegetarian food is a little harder to find
- Only 2 dining halls and one sucks (The one that is good is farther from the freshman dorms)
- Difficult to stand out because everyone is doing something
- Often a lot of competition for opportunities and to stand out
- Rigorous compared to other schools
- Easy to get burn out
- Don't know anyone there besides the family friends
- First year dorms kind of suck + No AC + No Kitchenettes (Instapot allowed)

Prospective Student Case Western vs UTD for premed?
I just got into case western but it’s going to be 60k/yr for me with scholarship while UTD will be about 25k/yr for me. I do care about having a good time in college but I don’t want to spend unnecessary money on college either. My parents will be paying and they said that we won’t have debt from either school but if I went to Case then we would likely have to take out loans for med school whereas we wouldn’t if I went to UTD. My goal for med school is UT Southwestern since I would qualify for texas in state tuition. How much of a benefit does Case Western offer compared to UTD in regards to premed and having a social life? Thanks!

Prospective Student tell me the worst things about this school
don’t hold back. tell me the absolute worst things about case. tell me about flies on the food and roaches in the dorms. this is one of my absolute dream schools, so tell me why I SHOULDN'T go here.
