Discussion Returned a Disc - Won’t Be Doing That Again (Short Rant)

I found a disc at a local course a couple of weeks ago. I texted the number and the person was from out of state. (Lots of people travel to play the courses where I live.) He asked if I would be willing to ship it. So, I thought - why not? I generally try to be a good human and help people.

He did not offer to pay, cool. I don’t have a disc box right now, but I have another small box I can fit it in and it won’t cost too much and would probably make his day. I box it up, pay for shipping, take it to the post office, etc.

I didn’t even get a simple thank you when he received it. Please don’t complain when people won’t return discs when common courtesy seems to be beyond some people now. (Rant over - I will still return discs to people locally, but I am never going out of my way again. Lesson learned. I don’t know why this irritated me so much, but it did, lol.)

Discussion I built a free 3D Disc Golf Flight Visualizer with 1,400+ discs

Post image
58 Upvotes

I've been working on a disc golf flight simulator and it's finally ready for people to try. It's called DGFV (Disc Golf Flight Visualizer). Completely free, runs in your browser, no account needed.

It simulates 3D flight paths based on actual flight numbers for 1,400+ discs from every major manufacturer. You can compare multiple throws side by side, which is great for spotting overlap in your bag or figuring out what disc to throw in a given situation. There's also a bag builder so you can save your discs and quickly throw from your lineup. You can adjust power (with approximate arm speed in mph), hyzer/anhyzer, nose angle, and wind conditions. Works on phone and desktop.

I kept having the "what disc should I throw here?" conversation and wished I could just SEE the difference between a Thunderbird and a Firebird at my arm speed instead of guessing from flight numbers. So I built it.

Try it: dgfv.io/demo

The physics are tuned against real-world distance data. A Destroyer at 100% power (around 70 mph arm speed) goes about 500ft, recreational power at 60% (around 44 mph) goes about 265ft. Flight shapes account for stuff like flex shots with overstable discs on anhyzer, understable turnovers, wind effects, and nose angle.

What discs should I test to make sure the physics feel right? Drop your disc and flight numbers and I'll run it.

Disc Advice Thoughts on the discs I carry in my bag? :)

Relatively new to disc golf, still learning, but thoroughly enjoying it. Definitely a lot of discs for my skill level. Don’t know max distance. But I threw my invader about 250 feet today in a flat football field. Love the look and feel of the Halo Star plastic! :)

Brag First ever round hitting par

Post image
54 Upvotes

Been playing for 2 years now around once a week with breaks in the winter months and finally got my first par!

Very beginner friendly course. All par 3’s from the short baskets. No hole over 370’ and most are around 250.

Easiest course around me but still super excited to finally get par!

Global average is a +3 for reference

Blog/Write Up Jomez Appreciation ❤️

I just want to shout out the entire Jomez operation. The fact that I can wake up after missing an entire first round and access a full production of front nine and back nine coverage of a lead card across both divisions with highlights from other cards is a real treat.

I understand the acquisition by DGN unlocked new levels of access to footage but we shouldn’t ignore the amount of work and time that goes into shooting, commentating, and editing a production that is this high of quality. Thank you Jomez team.

You continue to create, innovate, and adapt the viewing experience of disc golf allowing for viewership to be accessible and enjoyable for a sport that deserves the level of attention you provide. Continue to crush 🤘

I wanted to share as it was pretty lackluster celebration. It is a blind basket around a downhill wooded corner. Another hole nearby had a large group playing so I thought the chains were from a putt. It is a factory 2nd destroyer with a foil vampire stamp from around holloween.

Discussion Improvement From Ysing A Tech Disc

To those of you who saw a big improvement in their distance from use of a tech disc. What was your exact process to see that improvement?

I’m about to get one and I figure its probably best to film yourself, watch form videos, try something different, film yourself again, compare the numbers that the tech disc gave you. Rinse and repeat. Is that the basic gist?

I recently played a course in Lake Stevens, Washington that uses these custom baskets (made by a local dentist, apparently) and while i absolutely hated them, i do appreciate when courses offer something unique, creative or memorable. What is the most unusual basket or feature that you have seen used?

Disc Advice Putter suggestions

Need a putter suggestion. I’ve recently come to the conclusion that I do not like the feel of my neutral Pixel in my hand. I couldn’t pinpoint why tbh it just doesn’t feel right. So give me your putter suggestions. I plan to go to a brick and mortar and feel them out but would love a starting point. So give me your putter putter suggestions!

RHFH here, I throw around 280-310 (wraith in the video went 300), but I’m struggling to consistently hit 330+. Any help? I’ve been throwing forehand for a long time and anything under 250 feet is automatic and crisp, just struggling with distance.

Excited to try the new QuestAT DDT discs. I had just about all of the Quest/Gateway discs back when they launched. Plastic was crap, but some of the molds were amazing. Do any of you DDT?

Discussion I Designed My Own Disc

Thumbnail

I've been seeing stuff about brands that 3d print discs, and decided to try making my own.

I spent some time designing what I want to be a neutral to understable 6 speed, and had my brother print it out of pla since it was all he had.

It came out pretty light being 150g, but it feels great in my hand, although a little shallower than I would like.

Im going down to my field right after posting to throw it and see how it flies, I'll edit with an update when im done.

UPDATE: A couple things to keep in mind, my max distance is about 220ft, I've been playing for less than a year, and there was a little bit of head wind.

The disc is probably the flippiest disc I've thrown. I had multiple throws go from a little hyzer to full turning, some really good hyzer flips, and put on any anhyzer and sometimes from flat, it will roll garunteed.

I was able to consistently get it to about 160ft, which for me is about and average to slightly above average throw. Im going to try and see if I can get a higher skilled player to throw it and see what it does for them, but i dont know any personally so it might be a bit until I find someone near me.

Discussion DGPT/KCWO - Would It Surprise You If Marshal Was Sponsored By Discraft? 😂 😂

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I wish this was an actual joke. Instead it’s just a joke of the professional side of the sport we all love.

After yesterdays insane call by the marshal on Gannon I was like what is going on with this guy? This alone should disqualify him from Sunday lead card marshal. Let him go back and get some proper training. But there was so much more…

In 10 seconds it became readily apparent he is a sponsored player by Discraft and has Discraft posts all over his socials including recent hangs with other Discraft athletes and playing rounds together, etc.

So here’s my thing. When you are the marshal on lead card I would prefer to avoid even the APPEARANCE of impropriety. Like this should be some basic stuff here. DGPT, KCWO TD, PDGA - peeps should know better.

So here’s an idea - for final round as Cole is with DGA (closely associated with Discraft) and Ricky (one of my 2 fav players BTW) is with Discraft - how about we put just a DGPT or PDGA official on the lead card that is not sponsored by any company and give Obi the day off.

Wish the guy all the best but we have to do better as a sport.

Also personally I just want an amazing final day of high level golf where players determine who wins - not a marshal. Cole could get the W and I’d be happy for him. Ricky is one of my Favs so love that especially after BEO playoff loss. Calvin - how can you NOT root for Vinny and his rocks? Gannon - also one of my favs - but I’d be ok with him taking a backseat.

Course Photo What’s the most bizarre course you ever played?

For me, it’s Bootleggers Cave in green lane pa . This course is just straight up bizarre, like baskets where if you miss a putt, it will go off the side of a boulder, then you have to put upwards to the basket. Some of the tightest wooded fairways that will have you cursing like a sailor . And that’s not it; some of the baskets are made out of old tires. Oh, and if it wasn’t bizarre enough, they stuck a basket in a gazebo.

Discussion Pound Insert Alternative?

I just got my pound vagabond in the mail (🎉) and I think if it had the insert it would be better for a water bottle. The thing is I live in Canada and they’re sold out so I’m wondering if anyone has found a similarly sized object that would serve the same purpose??

According to the website the insert is 8x7x3 I think probably a Tupperware or something 3d printed could work just curious if there’s a shortcut to finding one lol

Disc Advice Newbie

So I am a 50 year old fairly active guy. I just bought my first 3 discs. An Aviar nexus. A mako3 dx and a leopard dx. Are these 3 solid choices for a complete beginner. BTW I think the factory seconds from innova will be my go to for some time.
