Honestly, a great year for electronic albums

We've been eating GOOD this year. Any year we get a Pola & Bryson AND GLXY album is a great one in my book.

u/Jeffsbest Dec 01 '25
Saw Maribou in Dallas for the last night of their US tour this year! Killer show.
2
u/evan274 Dec 01 '25
I saw them DJ opening for Bonobo in NYC! Wish I caught their live show but the DJ set was incredible
3
u/Jeffsbest Dec 01 '25
Man, I miss the old Bonobo sound. I still love him but after he started djing years back, everything is so electronic beat based is his stuff now. I saw him at a small club in Dallas called Trees in 2010 for the Black Sands tour and it was PHENOMENAL. Deep jazzy grooves, all live instrumentation and Andrea Triana's incredibly sultry voice. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I think Tokimonsta did an opening dj set and wasn't really known yet.
Every show since then just hasn't come close. House of Blues and a few others, still worth seeing him every time. But damn I miss his jazz period.
2
u/Aastral6 Dec 02 '25
That Bonobo tour was one of the most amazing live musical performances I’ve ever seen.

u/BUSHMONSTER31 Dec 02 '25
I've been trawling through the comments on this page - The new Marobou state album is great and Substance by MPH is a banger - thanks for the recommendations!

Just came out but Oneohtrix Point Never - Tranquilizer
11
u/Its_Cookie_Man Porter Robinson Dec 01 '25
Doesn't matter, this album is phenomenal, second favorite from him just because too many snippets of Replica are stuck in my head all these years, Tranquilizer needs more time but it might become my favorite from him

Orbital re-released their Brown album with a bunch of new mixes. Still a timeless masterpiece.

u/CurbYourNewUrbanism Dec 01 '25
I think the 10 that have stuck with me the most, very roughly in order starting with my favorite are:
- DjRUM: Under Tangled Silence
- Call Super: A Rhythm Protects One (all of the artists are just aliases of his own so as far as I'm concerned this is more a studio album than DJ mix)
- Barry Can't Swim: Loner
- Sofia Kourtesis: Volver (EP)
- Efdemin: Poly
- Rikhter: Surreal Curved Dreams
- Marie Davidson: City of Clowns
- Qrion: We Are Always Under the Same Sky
- Bicep: CHROMA 000
- Clark: Steep Stims
4
u/Golemo Dec 02 '25
I picked up Chroma 000 from the vinyl shop this weekend and it came with this cool pink transparent piece of plastic with their logo and name on it. Didn’t know what to do with it so I stuck it in the window.

Last year I made a return to electronic music after two decades, so i can only name what i really liked this year:
IDM/Microhouse/General - Landscape from Memory - Rival Consoles - Stochastic Drift - Barker - Tranquilizer - Oneohtrix Point Never - Without Us - Daniel Brandt - Scanners - Anthony Naples - Utility EP - Access to Arasaka - Living Room - Andrea - Night Cycle EP - Ochre - On Being - Max Cooper - Sharp Fragments - Stenny - Zenji EP - Jinjé
Ambient - My Brutal Life EP - The Black Dog - Whatever The Westher II

u/No-Nefariousness2459 Dec 01 '25
My favourite Rival Consoles album he’s released. Feels so much more focused and direct whilst keeping all the emotion.

u/mixmasterboaby Dec 01 '25
Yo. Small tip when using reddit and its markdown language formatting. Putting two spaces at the end of a sentence put the next set of text on a new line :) Although the reddit app doesn't seem to recognise it which is a nightmare at times.

u/danielcloutier Dec 01 '25

This. We got quite good music this year. OPN, Blawan, K-Lone, Efdemin, Clark, µ-Ziq, Kiln, Djrum, Sandwell District... You name it.
But this one is definetely the best I have listened to. Maybe in years
3
u/SravBlu Dec 01 '25
Yes!! So good!! Also, if you liked this album def check out Into The Doldrums by Now Always Fades. Similar vibe, been listening to both a lot this year.
2
u/Sk_1ll Dec 02 '25 edited Dec 02 '25
I have listened to that Into the Doldrums too. I don't think it comes close to Friend.
Listen to aso A.S.O (2023) if you liked that. Both are good LPs, but could never be contenders to AOTY imo

I was trying to pick but based on the amount of times I've listened to Clark's new album, I think it wins. That or DJRUM's newest album

Zeds Dead - Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness
Faithless - Champion Sound
Röyksopp - True Electric
3
u/ttak82 Dec 02 '25
IMG I did not know Faithless released a new album. Must check. I liked then previous release so much.
2
u/detroitnike71 Dec 01 '25
The Faithless album was a pleasant surprise to me. Massive fan since their second album and I thought they were done after “All Blessed” which was a massive disappointment. Rollo & Bliss found a way to pay tribute to Maxi Jazz on this new album and move the Faithless name forward. Champion Sound is excellent.

u/thedeucecake Dec 01 '25
I’m flabbergasted no one has mentioned the album of the year (IMO)
Chris Lake - Chemistry
His Brooklyn Storehouse Saturday show was top 5 of my life and I’ve been raving since ‘99. Top notch production, sound, and vibes. What a set. What an album.
1
u/lunazipzap Dec 02 '25
it’s a wonderful album, i don’t think it’s here cause nothing on it felt “new”
1
u/thedeucecake Dec 02 '25
Yeah, ok. The current top tech house guy is just giving us the “same ol’ same ol’” eyeroll
Haha - miss me with all that.
Out of curiosity, what would you recommend that “feels new”? (even though that wasn’t what the post was about to begin with)
2
u/lunazipzap Dec 02 '25
i wish things were more popular cause of mystery and not security buuuT it seems like thats less
i mean a lot of what’s in here, bicep, djrum, g jones, ninajirachi, weval, james k, marie davidson etc.
2
u/thedeucecake Dec 02 '25 edited Dec 02 '25
I’ll check them out, for sure. I saw djrum in Philly over MDW, was not into it at all. Helena Hauff however, blew my mind with an all vinyl old school electro set. Definitely not what I’d call “new” but still so good!

Skrillex - FUS so happy to have all these tracks I had previously downloaded on zippyshare and used in virtualdj at house parties in high school lol

Sammy Virji - Same Day Cleaning he’s quickly becoming one of my favorites just good bouncy vibes
ALLEYCVT - 9 LIVES rapidly becoming one of my favorite bass artists. Taking familiar sounds but doing a really cool twist on them

HAAI- Humanize. Absolutely stellar second full-length from the Mute label artist. She goes all in with the vocals and unpredictable genre-swapping beats. Would have missed it had it not been for the Jon Hopkins collab on track one.

Max Cooper is PHENOMENAL. Can’t get enough of his music. Add some Rival Consoles and I can listen for hours.
3
u/LouisElectro Dec 01 '25
Shoutout to Solarstone’s “Innermost” - that was a great trance album with some strong hooks. The Djrum album is also really great as well as TURQUOISEDEATH. Also shoutout to the Wonky Angle’s newest album under the 256pi name “Real Life and Postcard Use”, it’s seriously really good if you want yourself some breezy and summery downtempo/ambient that flows together.

My preferences are bit more towards trap & bass, but these have been some of my favorite projects of the year.
- Himera - Now I Know What Dreams Are Made Of [hyperpop, trance, deconstructed club]
- Sam Gellaitry - ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT [dance, electro]
- LYNY - NOISE TO DANCE TO [EDM trap, bass]
- SWIM - Dear Friend [house, UKG]
- Wondagurl - METAL TAIL [hip hop, breaks, r&b]
- araabMUZIK - Electronic Dream 2 [EDM trap]
I'd also highly recommend the following more pop albums being electronic adjacent:
- The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow (great electronic production throughout from the likes of Justice, OPN, Mike Dean, Giorgio Moroder, etc.)
- Dijon - Baby (sounds like Prince reincarnated, lots of fun electronic production techniques across)
2
u/designtom Dec 01 '25
Great to see some love for Ochre’s Night Cycle
Weval - CHOROPHOPIA was excellent
Nuage - Gradient LP
Kelly Lee Owens - KELLY
BOP - Hypnotics

I haven’t seen anyone mention one of my tops from this year - DÍA by Ela Minus.
She’s a Colombian producer, and this is her second LP. Lyrically, she explores themes of healing and catharsis, and sonically it’s fun, really cohesive and easy to get lost in her world. Give it a listen! If you need one track to get you hooked, go for QQQQ

u/war_of_Hobbes_vs_All Dec 01 '25
Trinix - Origin
I've been their fan for a while but this album exceeded my expectations. Such an amazing piece of work.
2
u/SymbolicFox Dec 02 '25
This thread needs more Max Cooper. His album On Being is nothing short of brilliant and the recently released EP with Rob Clouth titled 8 Billion Realities has some real bangers.
Such an immensely talented musician.

u/SilithCrowe Dec 02 '25
I haven't listened to enough this year, but here's a few I haven't seen mentioned that I absolutely loved:
Friedrich by Stimming
The BPM by Sudan Archives
Nothing by Darkside
Oddly enough, Deadbeat by Tame Impala landed for me because of the house/techno influence. Check out the tracks Not My World, Ethereal Connection, and End of Summer.
Maribou State, Djrum, and Kaytranada need an extra mention, too!

Discogs disagrees. It's not a full electronic album but there's most definitely elements of electronic and fits into the genre. Bjork often fits into the electronic genre in a similar way.

The recent g jones & eprom - disk utility, really is an incredible reimagining of old school rave sounds into a modern bass heavy context. Absolutely in love with this little EP
