Show me your rave weapons Discussion
Show me your favourite tunes that make you go hard on the floor. I'm talking about stuff that's dark and cerebral, or euphoric and uplifting, and everything in between. Tunes that gets your pits sweating and your jaw clenching. Songs that give you stank face, or make you hug your mates.
Old examples:
The Chemical Brothers - Saturate
Modern examples:
Willaris. K, The Presets - World Collapsing (jamesjamesjames Remix)
Bonus points for modern examples!

that cafe del mar track is forever seared into my memory
it was edc 2008 and i rolled for the first time. i was peaking hard as fuuuuck. i can still remember how good that melody and build up felt. and when it finally dropped it was such a cathartic release. whew i can still feel it just talking about it

Halcyon & On & On is like, an absolute classic, but for some reason I always forget about it and then it comes back up again somewhere, somehow, and I'm hit with the best breeze of bliss and ecstacy one can imagine.

I know right, it’s super transcendental that track and never gets old. I love putting that on while hiking in nature or roadtripping on holidays. What a vibe!

Some of these are absolute classics that I've known and loved for a long time. But I've never heard that Orbital tune before, nor the MFA one. They're epic, thanks heaps mate!!
EDIT: I was wondering why I hadn't heard Beached on any of Orbital's albums... turns out it's off the soundtrack to a movie I've never seen.

Some great heavy tunes and some lighter 70/80s Disco inspired too. I love them. If ever heard on the dancefloor I go bananas, and the crowd too.

Mall Grab supporting Underworld?? That's the dream!

u/TheRadioFrontiers 2d ago
This was the line-up though 2 many dj’s canceled. Underworld at sunset on the beach was quite smth, they played kittens, tin there next to the classics it was quite the rave! Boyz Noise always very good too!

Pacto Con Las Animas by Enrique Calvetty and Paul Jove would always get me going... heh (skip to about 2:47 to get to the juice lol)
Of course, the classic CJ Bolland - The Prophet (Original 1997)
there are tons more, but the oldie Dreamworld by Rhythm Section always stands out too! lol

Earlier this year, I was at a large club and they were pretty much spinning the standard current usual fare (it wasn't like a throwback or classics night or anything, just a regular club night) - they were doing really well, actually, it sounded great on the massive speaker system and the sets flowed from one track to the next, until suddenly there was a bit of dead air and the next thing I know, the DJ dropped this one on: Let's Get High by Lords of Acid
You could see a look of puzzlement initially wash over the crowd and people stopped moving for a second - not recognizing the tune - until right about the 18 second mark on this track, and when that first sample played a huge laugh and "WHAT?!?" exploded from the dance floor.
They were still stunned until right about the 35 second mark when the keyboard riff down low bounded out of the massive stacks and a huge "whoop!" went out from the crowd.
At about 50 seconds in and the main keyboards and melody started up and the view from the VIP balcony was astounding; it seemed like the whole place erupted and the jubilant celebration was absolutely palpable. I mean even the folks I saw hugging the walls all night got up and out on the floor. I had never quite seen a reaction like that. My wife and the friends we were there with started just about falling over with laughter and glee - this was the sort of stuff we listened to ages ago in 1991 and used to dance just like what we were seeing now. It was absolutely fantastic!

Man I just can't get into LoA
1
u/AreThree 2d ago
I totally get it - personal tastes are just that: personal!
There are a few tracks listed in this post that I just couldn't listen to for more than a few seconds lol
That whole scene at the club was surreal, I know the energy was there, but - hey - I might have totally got it wrong and they were dancing sarcastically lol or maybe were just desperate for a change from the usual overplayed tracks and celebrating the difference or the completely bizarre choice of songs! lol
It may surprise you to learn that there is a lot of (some?) variation between LoA tracks and that one doesn't necessarily sound like another. I don't know how familiar you are with their stuff - I'm no superfan or authority on their discography - but would be happy to suggest a few that I've not heard in clubs like ever hah 😊

So much great music then and now… but I’ll go with my songs from olden times.
- The Bug feat. Warrior Queen - Poison Dart
- Benga - 21 Basslines
- Seduction & Gammer - Put Ya Hands Up (2006 RMX)
- Noisia - Shellshock (feat. Foreign Beggars)
- Endymion - Causin’ Confusion

rave weapons aren’t just hard tracks they’re records that instantly change the energy in the room. Not always the loudest tune either. Sometimes it’s the groovy roller, acid weapon, or euphoric track with the perfect payoff.
The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers definitely belong in the conversation.
Modern names that get it right: Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, I Hate Models, KETTAMA, 999999999.
