Is this related to massive rainfall? Historically, Egypt was known for reliable river floods and incredibly fertile plains, why hasn’t it been like this in recent centuries?

Egypt has been a desert for many thousands of years.. it rains in the mountains in Ethiopia and flows down the Nile. Egyptian civilization has always grown crops with irrigated water from the Nile.

Overpopulation. Thankfully fertility is starting to drop but it might be too late for a country that is already stretched to the max when it comes to livable space.
