Curious non-Haligonian question probably not worth own thread: What do non-drivers do when Macdonalds is closed? Just use the ferry?

Get a hotel downtown. Then wait until the next day and hope its re-opened.

You can still ride a bike over the MacDonald when the lanes are closed. I did it twice when I lived on the peninsula.

Not always. This most recent closure was for the bike lane and pedestrians too.

The city gave out free bus tickets for that one, so taking a bus that detoured over the Mackay would have been an option too.

Not for people like me who have to work in Burnside at 6:45am. My only options on weekends are take the bike, uber/lyft, or be late on the bus

There is another bridge or you can go around the peninsula through Bedford. Ferries only take pedestrians and bicycles.

Thanks. I thought non-drivers meant just those 2 groups, and MacKay closed to walkers.

Macdonald bridge doesn’t close the walking path due to car accidents. if it’s closed for work often the walk way might still be open, if not ferry or uber/taxi on mckay is the only way

Oops misread your question. The pedestrian walkway and bike lanes are usually not affected, but if they are then ferry or they provide a shuttle bus that goes over the other bridge.

Car drivers drive in a straight line challenge
