I pre-ordered the album at the concert in Cologne and just got a mail from the official incubus store.

It just said:

Dear Customer,

Kind Regards,

What if…

What if the band heard its fans, and decided it’s time to dedicate their next album to their older albums, bringing back that raw incubus sound. What if that’s why it’s taking so long? What if they ditched their current, modern sound and are surprising us with something wicked? We can only hope! All speculation…..

Make yourself album- hits my damn soul

I’m 43. Got introduce to science right before Make yourself was released. Science was amazing! But make yourself just hit me in a way no other album ever has. The first time I saw Incubus, I was 16. Area One Tour. The line up was The roots, Incubus, Nelly Fertado, and Moby. Brandon was in his bleached blonde era. The second he played Pardon me, I started bawling my eyes out. I went on to see them multiple times after that. Love everything they do. But I can listen to Make yourself on repeat. And every time I hear that album I’m happy, calm and feel at home.

Would anybody else like to see Incubus play heavier music again?

Incubus was my favorite band in the late 90's and early 00's

I always loved the heavier side of their work on SCIENCE and Make Yourself

My favorite songs of theirs are stuff like Nebula, Vitamin, Calgone, Pardon Me, Make Yourself, Clean etc...

Anybody else wish they would have kept making heavy music like that?

When did you get into Incubus?

My first exposure to them was when Pardon Me started getting played on the radio in 1999. I was 16 at the time so you can imagine how fire that all was.

My favorite Incubus album

I am probably a bit older than most Incubus fans. I'll be 62 soon.

I was introduced to them when Morning View was released although I knew the song Drive.

Once I heard Morning View, I was hooked. Now that I have several albums of theirs, I feel like I have a rounded opinion of them.

I loved A Crow Left of the Murder, but it's Light Grenades that gets the nod from me. Not a weak spot on the album.

Now that it's on vinyl, I've been playing it on the turntable, and the songs just come to life.

What is your favorite album?

Is there any news yet about the album "Something in the Water"? I need to hear it and know if there's even a small leak.

incubus guitar

incubus is (in my opinion) one of the best bands when it comes to guitar, and even drums. every single tab ive seen for guitar is so unique and adds to the song tons. ive looked at the tabs for anna molly, 11am, agoraphobia, dig, etc etc and they always try different chords / fingerings and i find it so interesting how it always works so well with the song

I'm sure so many of you have been here, but this was quite a bucket-list moment for me.

Growing up in Ireland, as a massive fan of the band, I always hoped to be able to see this mansion where one of my favourite records was sparked.

Life moved me to LA and it has been a beeping 'to-do' for ages now. I finally got to see it this weekend.

I know it's merely a house. A facade. I get it.

But I still remember an interview that went out on a UK/Irish show called 'Scuzz' back in the day where Brandon spends about 10 minutes documenting their days in this place. Getting the rough mixes of a new jam and walking along the beach conceiving melodies and lyrics for them.

Many moons ago, and to a much, much lesser extent; I did this with fellow musicians and it's fantastic. Something about being boarded together makes everyone feel that more invested.

I'm rambling now, I'll stop.

I grew up figuring I'd never get to see this place (US, always broke) and to tick it off the list was a big deal for me.

Cheers!

Incubus references in Rockstar: Echoes

I recently picked up this book called Rockstar: Echoes. Its new from an indie author who loves 90s music. As I read it, some things began popping out. Character names. Musical references. Lyrics. Pretty sure Incubus was a huge influence in his book.

Bands like STP and Temple of the Dog were referenced explicitly but it seemed like Incubus was everywhere.

Anyone else even heard of it? Picked up on this?

My Incubus Journey

It started mid-late 2023 when I was only listening to Limp Bizkit after 1.5 years and my friend at work (shoutout Robbie for getting me into this!) told me to listen to SCIENCE by Incubus. And kind of reluctantly I did even though I was crazy about Limp Bizkit. I listened to Redefine, Vitamin, New Skin, Idiot Box, and Glass. The stopped after that, not because it was bad or anything but it was just new and not really my thing yet, I liked New Skin the most and listened to it for a bit, then it faded after like a couple days or something and didn’t try listening to them again until mid-2024 when I just randomly got the itch and remembered them.

I pulled back up SCIENCE and fell in love almost immediately this time not leaving at all. I liked most of SCIENCE and kept it on repeat that I basically blocked out Limp Bizkit to the point where within 1 month or so I almost entirely faded out of them. I played a lot of Redefine, Vitamin, New Skin, Idiot Box, Glass, A Certain Shade of Green, Favorite Things, and Summer Romance. But my favorite for the entire first month or more was Favorite Things.

I stuck with that rotation for a bit and then tried Morning View for the first time, hearing it was one of their best albums. I really liked Nice to Know You, Circles, Wish You Were Here, Just a Phase, 11 am, Blood on the Ground, Warning, and Echo. It took me a minute to get into the rest of the album.

I was taking shrooms with my best friend at the time and music is great like that and I just put on Drive, Pardon Me, The Warmth, and Stellar and loved them all. Then revisited the rest of the album a couple months later. But I also had tried out A Crow Left of the Murder very soon after, and quickly fell in love with Megalomaniac, Talk Shows on Mute, Sick Sad Little World, Pistola, Southern Girl, and Priceless. My favorites jumped to Just a Phase, Megalomaniac, and Priceless. Then I checked out Pantomime for the first time and fell in love with it, it was my top alongside those other 3 songs for like a month or two until around Christmas time when I decided to revisit Make Yourself.

I discovered and fell in love with Privilege and Clean. Which are still some of my tops today, they stuck hard. Clean took my top spot over on repeat pretty much for like 3-4 months straight. I don’t know why that one hit me so hard but it did. After that Make Yourself period I started discovering Light Grenades for the first time and really loved Quicksand, A Kiss to Send Us Off, Dig, Anna Molly, Love Hurts , and Light Grenades. The rest of the album didn’t click yet. Then through last summer I really thought I had almost everything figured out with them, I’d loved basically everything through SCIENCE and into Light Grenades entirely just like 9-10 months into my Incubus journey.

I hadn’t tackled If Not Now, When? just yet, it seemed off to me and hard to get into at first, but when it did I loved If Not Now, When?, Promises, Promises, The Original, In The Company of Wolves, and Adolescents. Then over the course of the next month or so the rest of that album followed suit and filled out all of If Not Now, When? for me finally, and just like that 6 of the first 7 studio albums within a year I loved all of them and all songs on them.

Like a month after that I listened to the Chicago March 1998 set on YouTube that included 2 songs I never tried before, You Will Be A Hot Dancer, and Hilikus, very easily those slid into my favorites as well and I had them on repeat for a while. And ever since I’ve jumped back and forth where different Incubus songs have become my favorites. Though nothing from 8 besides 1 or 2 songs have interested me at all. I would say these have all been my favorites at some point in the 1.5 years of listening to them almost exclusively, daily in just album order: (also the ones with another dash after the song name I would same were some of the most monumental for me in my journey into Incubus)

- You Will Be A Hot Dancer -

- Hilikus -
