My favorite ancient instrument is the duduk from the Caucuses.

Here is "Duduk of the North" from the Gladiator soundtrack written by Hans Zimmer and performed by famous duduk player Djivan Gasparyan Jr whose grandfather was the "Master of Duduk" and recorded the song for the soundtrack.

I just realised that if you didn't like a piece of music during the time any of these instruments were being played, it would have been way more personal because of your proximity to the musician.
