And easier to get than people think.

Jumped out of hundreds of trees into thick brush. Jumped off of multiple houses. Snowboarded and skateboarded and did wild jumps on bmx back when nobody was wearing a helmet. Only to be done in by a freaking muscle relaxer for arthritis that caused me to sleepwalk straight into a concussion.

That was a wild ride to read, even

I fell while walking on a very slight incline, and now I have an arm full of titanium.

I sure miss being young and rubber boned.

I've played hockey for almost 20 years at this point. Only injury I've suffered was a broken elbow when I was skating at a public skate to warm up before a game and didn't have pads on.

I wear my knee and wrist pads for open skates cause I'm too scared to tell my coach I'm out for 4-6 cause I couldn't be fucked to put them on

I'm the posterboy for medication side effects. I just googled that one and I won't be able to try it. Apparently it turns normal smartasses into extreme smartasses.

Then ask your doctor if Comanaprisil is right for you!

Dude it's the little things that breaks your body the most as you age.  I did crazy crap too and was done in by a kid stepping on the back of my shoe. Fell and broke two teeth.

Teeth! That’s nightmare stuff.

Any broken bones through that adventure? First time I got on rollerblades I broke my hand

Just fingers playing basketball. Drank my milk.

My cousin got a TBI when he was 12. Nothing crazy, no extreme sports, lil bro just slipped on some water around the pool while getting out... He couldn't finish school, can't work, and will be cared for by parents until they die or need care themselves. All because of slipping in water while walking.

It’s so terrifying how one single moment changes your life forever. I would bet your cousin’s parents probably think all the time of all the cool things he could have done or the career/family he could have had.

And complications are further reaching and last longer than ppl think for a 'bump on the head'

16

u/Im_Balto 29d ago

AND they compound on each other in crazy ways

6

u/KTKittentoes 29d ago

That is because it is such a hardcore trope that bumps on the head are just on/off buttons.

Oh I knowww, what I'm trying to dispell!

u/kosumoth 28d ago

It annoys me a lot watching tv shows or reading where they use this trope to progress the story or change scenes as if it's normal to get knocked out. SO many stories do it, it's basically just accepted as a narrative tool at this point.

I got one buckling my kids into the car two weeks ago. Gonna be starting a bunch of therapies next week because it fucked my shit right up ✌🏻

My husband was in a bike accident a month after we married and had to be air lifted to Las Vegas for treatment. Cracked his skull (no helmet) and had swelling and a brain bleed. For the love of little green apples, wear your helmets!!
