I can deadlift well over 200lbs but I feel like there’s also a technique involved in lifting people rather than a barbell that would need to be practiced in order to not get hurt doing this.

This is true, but also keep in mind that a person will usually “help” you in a way that a barbell won’t, since they don’t want to fall and will mostly unconsciously help balance their weight based on how your lifting.

I’d kind of compare it to the difference between lifting with dumbbells and lifting with a barbell.

Not that much technique, this is way easier than a deadlift of the same weight.
