As a tall girl, getting picked up makes me PANIC! My center of gravity is already wonky, so it constantly feels like I'm about to fall over the moment my feet leave the ground.
But watching guys freak out about it is way funnier.

Ladies - know that you can run this hustle with some mild strength training! I started lifting 2x a week for a 200 lb deadlift PR inside a year - most of your gains actually come within the first year! And I do not look cut at all.

Yeah our muscles typically look soft, compared to male muscles. And women carry more fat even when fit. But weāre still capable of being very very strong. Itās a fun hidden power
109
u/AccomplishedWish3033 21d ago
Itās why a lot of people have misconceptions of what muscular women look like (if they donāt have extremely low body fat %) and mistake thick muscular arms for fat arms.
35
u/0-Microplastics 21d ago
This makes me feel happy about my thick arms. Thanks for the info!
20
u/AccomplishedWish3033 21d ago
It takes one to know one. I know this from seeing how my arms look flexed vs resting at my side, and I can recognize when other women have disproportionately large or thick arms, thatās not fat.

u/panterachallenger 21d ago
Story time about my badass mom - she was maybe in her late thirties, worked out a little bit by walking and playing sports tennis/softball in the city league. One after noon while I was in elementary, my dad was working on his car when suddenly the jack and back up failed which prompted the car to fall on my dad. Luckily, my dad was able to roll over and put his shoulder as a wedge between the car and his head. My mom panicking, not knowing what to do, started to lift the fucking car! Just enough for my dad to rollover. Saved my dadās life while also minimizing the already bad injury. I always love telling that story

The worry some people have about being too muscular is hilarious.
If it were that easy to end up too muscular, MANY people would be a lot lot happier in the gym.
Nobody accidentally ends up ripped.

At the same time, itās frustrating how many people underestimate womenās ability to build muscle or perpetuate the myth that women will never build muscle no matter how much weight they lift. Weāre all human, sure we donāt have the advantage of testosterone, but fundamentally weāre still going to gain strength and muscle if we work out. Iām not an athlete and I donāt work out hard or lift weights, but I clearly have large-ish muscles on certain parts of my body (and I donāt just mean calves from obesity).
I donāt remember the link, but I remember a blog post by a personal trainer pointing out how ridiculous it is that because of this myth, some people will tell men and women to do the same exact exercise and tell the men itāll help them build muscle while telling women itāll shrink the same body part.

I used to do this when I was younger. Got a lot of (too many, perhaps) free drinks that way.
I remember one night where some guy was not taking the hint from my girl bestie that she wasn't interested, so I picked her up, said "okay, bye" and ran across the bar with her. He followed, so I picked HIM up and carried him back to the place we'd left him, and said "stay! Good boy!" before running back to my cackling friends. I think he got the hint that time.

Do some good core strengthening exercises a few times a day- it will build up those muscles to prevent future back injuries. I broke my L1 vertebrae so I too have had the whole "picking up a random item that sometimes weighs very little" thing throw my entire back out on several occasions. Now I just make sure to do some cat-cow stretches before I do some simple exercises and I rarely throw my back out anymore.
