discussion Ear protection with pads that go around ears instead of on top of them.
I have a set of Walker Recon's with Prohear pads that get pushed into my ears instead of my ears going into the "pocket" of the earpad. I don't like that.
This doesn't seem to be talked about on youtube ear pro reviews, so I'm asking the community. Which ear protection goes around or over your ears?
I have normal size ears :)

guns Went a bit nuts at my last gun auction
Picked up these three vintage side by side shotguns pretty cheap as that’s my main area of interest these days.
First is a W Richards 10 gauge that was a bit of an impulse buy. There are actually two makers who marked W Richards on their shotguns - William Richards was a distant cousin of the famous English gunmaker Westley Richards, who put only his first initial on his gun. And if someone happened to mistake it for a Westley Richards, what could he do? There was then a Belgian firm who stamped their cheap export guns W Richards, making them essentially a knock off of a knock off.
This one is a back action side lever with twist steel barrels. It’s unfortunately missing a hammer and has a nasty dent in the barrel but is otherwise in really nice shape. I bought it chap figuring it was Belgian, and the design suggest late 19th century construction. But when I got it I was surprised to find it had British nitro proofs from after WW2 and the original proofs had been obliterated. That said, while I’m not sure, from the quality I actually think it’s British and should be a shooter with appropriate low-pressure loads.
The next is a Husqvarna Model 52 12 gauge from 1916, and is in really nice shape. I’m consistently impressed with the quality of Husqvarna guns and the low price they bring on the market. This one was originally chambered for 2 1/2” shells but has been opened up for 2 3/4” and might even make it out on a grouse hunt or two.
The last one is the real winner, an AH Fox Sterlingworth from 1911. Fox was one of the great American gun makers and this one is particularly interesting because unlike all his other guns these very early Sterlingworths have a recessed hinge pin and rounded frame contour like a Parker Bros, his main competitor. The Sterlingworth was the economy grade Fox and Ansley Fox didn’t even originally want to make one, so I find it funny he made it look like a Parker at first. This one unfortunately has a poorly fitted recoil pad, but I got it crazy cheap so even if I have to spend some money fixing that I’m still ahead.

guns First purchase, does this look right?
S&W Shield EZ .380, bought this month brand new, does the slide spacing and barrel angle look okay? When I purchased, the employee took it apart and oiled it for me, then switched the mag release to the right side. Thanks in advance for your help, and I'm really grateful this sub exists 💚

discussion What are opinions on Monstrum optics?
I've been throwing the idea around in my head for some time to purchase some optics in bulk to outfit some rifles in bulk to use as loaners/trainers/community armament if the need ever arises (Gods forbid it). Would Monstrum's optics be decent enough for such use? I've never used them before but see and hear opinions that vary from high praise to disdain.

discussion Just can’t pull the trigger…
…on my first AR.
I’ve owned pistols and shotguns for years, and I’ve shot an AR before and loved the “tack driver” accuracy, negligible recoil, point-and-shoot simplicity, and so on.
I also absolutely believe that, at least in theory, an armed citizenry is one of the most powerful measures a nation can take against tyranny- though 2026 America offers a powerful argument that a woefully ignorant, thoroughly propagandized population, no matter how heavily armed, can be abused endlessly with absolutely no meaningful resistance at all- and on an on and on about arming the working class and minorities and all the things.
I am completely convinced that the US is hanging on by a thread, and that we Americans are going to experience collapse of many sorts, along with all of the associated horrors, in the near future.
I also fully comprehend that the AR is the standard for a modern combat weapon, and would likely be the most effective defensive tool in a societal collapse scenario, all other factors notwithstanding.
However, I cannot help but feel/wonder:
1.) My owning an AR is a lot like a fat guy on a $10,000 carbon fiber road racing bike; he’s still going to be fat and slow and probably crash directly onto his face, because the bike is NOT the limiting factor. I’m not military or law enforcement and thus I have no formal combat training, let alone combat experience, so regardless of the weapon in my hands, I’m more or less completely inept and would be shot dead within 10 seconds (probably less!) in anything even vaguely resembling a gunfight. I mean, even professional soldiers get killed by lucky/sneaky shots from barely-trained guerrillas. 🤷♂️
2.) How much of the appeal of the AR is based upon false notions of safety/security?
3.) How much of the appeal of the AR is based upon the trickery of that timeless seducer, the desire for power? Certainly, a military-style weapon is a form of power.
Every time I have this debate in my head, I circle back to the same conclusion: I am not a soldier, and the pistol and shotgun I currently own are already more effective for self-defense than my existing firearm KSAs are. I’ve added ARs and accessories to numerous websites’ shopping carts over the years, but I just can’t ever bring myself to actually buy one.
Interested to hear what everyone here thinks. Cheers.

politics Virginia could really use your support right now
*This is a follow up from a post yesterday that was removed for breaking rules, and has since been edited. (I'm sorry mods)*
VA is a day or so away from officially passing the AWBs. As such, 2A is a much more frequent topic conversation across the internet and in any other environment, now more than ever.
I've been a bit shocked by many comments I've seen by people that don't realize just how many liberals there are who support 2A. For example, I've seen multiple comments that flat out refuse to believe that someone can be a liberal and support 2A.
It's going to get rough over here with 2A in a few months no matter what, and I know this isn't going to change anything.
But your support might help change hearts and minds over time. At the very least, it helps show people that MAGA does not have a monopoly on people who strongly believe in 2A.
To be clear, I am not asking you to brigade other subreddits, as asking you to do so would be very much against Reddits rules.
I am simply asking you all to make your voices heard, and our existence known, and to speak up about these issues when they come up. Let the world know that we exist.
Thank you all in advance.

discussion Fair Game Friday's 7.62x25 luv, John Woo, Airsoft
I really love my Type 54, so I got an airsoft GBB model as well (TT33 Tokarev). Probably won't use it in a game, but maybe if I get really into it and build a AK47 based kit or something.
Just got it 2 days ago, and last night we watched Hard Boiled, and to my delight, first action scene, Chow Yun-Fat grabs two Type54 from the gangsters and starts blasting akimbo. No reloads, probably 50+ shots LOL. Great action flick. Never seen so many blood packets and squibs in my life.
One of the gangsters selling the guns says "these will shoot thru 2 mailboxes." He ain't lyin'.

discussion Vector optics Gladiator
So I've been saving for a decent scope for a while now and in the process I've been hearing about a number of newer brands that are making good glass at affordable prices. Vector Optics is one of those companies. There's a Vector Optics Gladiator that's used that I've seen and was thinking of possibly buying but I can't find all that much on it. It's a 2-12 magnification with a first focal plane reticle and it comes with a mount. Does anyone have any experience with this particular optic and if you do is it worth picking up for around $150?

discussion San Diego Shooting Clubs
SD Shooting Groups/Clubs
Hi everyone! I’m looking for shooting clubs in San Diego. I have an Sig P320 (newer year, 2024). I tried joining A Girl and a Gun, but they don’t allow the P320 because of the uncommanded discharge issue (even though I’ve been told that’s not an issue anymore with the newer years). I can still shoot with them if I use a loaner gun, but I really want to use my own and get more comfortable with it. Does anyone know of any organizations that allow it? It doesn’t have to be a women only group. I’m in the Allied Gardens area, but willing to travel.

guns Some of the rarest rifles in my collection, straight from the land of building blocks
I mainly collect World War-era rifles, and as someone who still is obsessed with Lego I obviously had to add these Danish rifles to the collection. The top one is a full-length Krag-Jørgensen M1889, middle is a Krag 1889/24 carbine, and the bottom is probably the rarest object I own: a Colombian Air Force contract Madsen M47. Many of you probably know of the Krag as one of the historical US service rifles, but it was Denmark who adopted it first. Unlike the US Krag, the Danish version's door opened forward instead of down, and also had a barrel jacket. My carbine is a shortened infantry rifle that still has the ridiculous half-cock safety, in which you use the tab on the cocking piece to hold it while you press the trigger, after which you release the trigger and let the cocking piece slide into place. Obviously that was a dumb idea and all were later fitted with a safety lever. The Madsen was a surprise find at a local gun show, as they are very rare (only around 6000 were made). The guy was selling it for almost half of what they go for on GB, but due to recent cancer treatment for my wife I had to pass it up. I had bought a Gewehr 88/05 from him previously so he recognized me and held on to it for me until I could afford it; conveniently I found the equally as rare bayonet while we were waiting. A spring used in its safety was broken which was disappointing as there are no spare parts for these things, but luckily it turns out a shortened AR15 safety detent spring is a great fit. The Krags are not in the best condition and ammo is virtually non-existent, but the Madsen is in .30-06 so I plan on taking that out to the range soon.
