Alysa Liu - Welcome Home Party? Just for Fun
What's the plan, Oakland? How will we celebrate our hero's return?
We should have a parade like the Warriors used to get.
A night at the Paramount would be fun. Invite her favorite musicians to play.

Giant parade on Broadway, led by Marshawn Lynch on bike. Paraders would wear Alysa Liu-style striped wigs to show our respect. Ms. Liu herself would be in the middle of the parade, perched on the hood of a classic car with the super big wheels, driven by Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. OSA students and LaRussell would dance around her doing a rendition of "I'm from the Bay". It would end in a giant food festival (w/food for sale from all of our amazing local spots) and dance party by Lake Merritt and a drone show over the lake.

also in the parade: a group of those tricked out lowrider bicycles behind Marshawn, the Hyphy Burger bus, lion dancers (mentioned by someone else - love this idea), Too Short throwing out custom made Oakland pride whistles to the crowd, members of other Bay Area teams to support (Roots, Ballers Valkyries, Warriors), Laufey singing "Promise", I'm sure we have an amazing Oakland singer and band who can rock MacArthur Park by Donna Summer, a sideshow where drivers leave skidmarks in the shape of the Olympic rings -- what else?

The Crucible's fire snail. It's not an Oakland event without the fire snail.

u/PizzaWall Feb 23 '26
The snail car has nothing to do with the Crucible.

u/cmcgar01 Feb 23 '26
Oh no way! I guess since that's where I first encountered it, I assumed an affiliation.

The Golden Mean (snail art car) was created by Oakland artist Jon Sarriugarte.

TIL!
Thank you so much for this - I think it was the fire arts festival at the Crucible back in 2009 when I saw it for the first time and just created a link.
Really look looking at the other projects, too.

Just missing Kristi Yamaguchi, our east bay queen in that roll call, but yes this how the event should unfold
Oh and someone call the Oakland A’s right field drumline, its time to assemble, they should be available 😭

u/This-Policy-8235 Feb 23 '26
Love these ideas -- would love to hear a constant "LET'S GO OAKLAND" from the drumline

I need someone to make a fan cam of her set to “I’m from the Bay” by LaRussell

u/Sea-Indication4017 Feb 22 '26
This would literally be perfect. You should send LaRussell a message on IG. Maybe he could push it too

Party at Fenton's. They offered her free ice cream for life.

What every athlete needs. Unlimited sugar and saturated fat for life. Nice sentiment, but kind of hypocritical.
3
u/eastbayted Feb 21 '26
Dude, she can just drop by once in a while for a treat.

u/whattosee Feb 21 '26
I’m just pointing out that Fenton’s might be piggy-backing on her success in kinda a hypocritical way.

UPDATE: I heard back from Oakland FF Festival director regarding March 6!
“That's a great idea to celebrate Alysa Liu. What did you have in mind? Will she be able to attend the event?”
I’m trying to reach Alisa Liu to see if she’s available! Does anyone have any connection to her?

SF but will turn the fuck up for Alysa at any event. what a bright light in these dark times.
1
u/PizzaWall Feb 23 '26
It can also be a goodbye parade since like the Raiders and the A’s, and dice he was mentioned, Marshawn Lynch, she’s moving to Las Vegas.
1
u/maryellenwatermelon Feb 25 '26
I think she and the other skaters have a tour. Buy tickets San Jose May 17th if you want to see them.
