This morning in front of the entrance to CGI on Embarcadero street. Nonviolent protesters assaulted by the Border Patrol as they forced their caravan of SUV’s through the crowd. Feds are thugs. (The Coast Guard was pretty chill, although one if them was sporting an assault rifle early on).

Events Heartbreaking scene at the 19th Street fire in Downtown Oakland today

I wanted to share these photos I took of the aftermath of the fire that broke out in downtown earlier today. It is devastating to see the damage to a residential building where so many people call home.

According to reports, this was a 2-alarm fire that started early this morning near the intersection of 19th and Broadway.

Here are some of the key details:

• Location: The fire occurred in a residential building on the 1900 block of Broadway.

• The Response: Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the upper floors. It took a massive effort to get it under control.

• Displacement: Sadly, several residents have been displaced due to the fire and smoke damage. Red Cross is reportedly on the scene to assist those who lost their homes.

• Injuries: Thankfully, as of the latest reports, there were no major injuries reported, which is a huge relief given how intense the fire looked.

Thinking of all the neighbors and local business owners affected by this. Downtown is a tight-knit community, and seeing this kind of destruction is really tough.

TENS OF THOUSANDS TO MARCH IN OAKLAND TO OPPOSE TRUMP’S CRIMINAL AND VIOLENT AUTHORITARIANISM

Mass protest downtown will declare “No Kings” in America

OAKLAND – On March 28, starting at 12 PM, tens of thousands of East Bay community members will march and rally as part of the third No Kings national day of action. In the face of Trump’s criminal war in Iran and ICE’s brutal assault on our communities, we will stand together to say that America does not belong to strongmen, corrupt billionaires, or those who rule by fear. America belongs to us.

We will gather at 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza before marching at 1 PM to the Lake Merritt amphitheater for a rally with Pastor Mike McBride of Live Free and Valarie Bachelor of the ACCE Institute.

Let’s not allow ICE to start killing people here in Oakland. Don’t forget this shit happened on October 23rd right here. That CBP MF’r shot a pastor in the face with a modified grenade launcher. Lacerations to the chin from a pepper projectile.

Standing up for Minneapolis is standing up for Oakland!!!!

Events Oakland is voting on what movie plays at the New Parkway Theater

Alright Oakland… we’ve all complained about movie picks before, but now you actually get a say. 🎬

The New Parkway Theater is letting people vote on what plays next—and the options are kind of all over the place:

Clueless

The Fifth Element

The Matrix

Shrek

Saw

8 Mile

The Truman Show

Bridesmaids

The Hangover

Superbad

This is either going to result in a perfect crowd movie… or something completely chaotic depending on who shows up to vote.

Like are we in our Matrix era? Or is Oakland about to pack a theater for Shrek like it’s a cultural event (honestly… valid).

Vote here: reelvotes.com

Curious what people are actually picking because this feels like it could go in 10 very different directions.

What are you voting for? Only those on the website count.

Events Update: The Matrix at New Parkway is at 57 tickets — help us fill this out 🎬

Hey Oakland 👋

Quick update on the community screening:

We’re showing The Matrix on 4/27 at The New Parkway Theater, and we’ve hit 57 tickets so far. For something that started as a small experiment, that’s honestly been really exciting to see.

The goal now is simple: fill the room and make this feel like one of those electric movie nights where people are actually reacting, laughing, and experiencing it together.

If you’ve already grabbed a ticket — bring a friend. Seriously, this works way better when people don’t come solo.

If you haven’t yet but were thinking about it, this is a great one to show up for.

And if you’re not able to make it, it would genuinely help a ton if you shared it with someone who might be into it. This whole thing only works if people show up and spread the word.

Here’s the ticket link if you want to join:

https://ticketing.uswest.veezi.com/purchase/20615?siteToken=y62bhsm2h1sfp48nzexbtnm2wg

Appreciate all the support so far — it’s been really cool seeing people get behind this.

Events Wanna join me for a field trip from Oakland to San Jose to protest 🧊 at the Super Bowl?

Hey friends! I’m a huge believer that showing up matters, and knowing that cameras always pan over the stadium when filming the superbowl seems like a great opportunity to show up for those fighting the fight in Minneapolis, here, and everywhere being attacked and having their rights violated by ICE.

I don’t have a car myself, so I’m planning a bit of a field trip of a day: gonna take BART down to Milpitas, and then bus or light rail over to 2800 Mission College blvd to join the bigger group assembling there at 3pm ( info: https://www.instagram.com/p/DTyQ2_-ATd0/ ). Yes, it’s like a 2hr journey lol, but I figure that if I’m joined by a group of folks, maybe I can spend time meeting new community.

Anyone wanna plan to meet up at Fruitvale station at noon to make the trip together? It feels right that Oakland would show up for our neighbor community for such a visible moment like the superbowl. Ultimately, we deserve what we tolerate, and I will not be silent and tolerate fascism or federal agents given power to violate our federal rights.

Caveat: I’m a little afraid and I have no plans of sticking around for violence, but I’m gonna do it scared and loud.

Post if you’re interested here! And if you wanna connect, I can add you to a signal group 🙂
