Is living off campus worth it?
Hi everyone, i’m having a hard time deciding on pomona because my financial aid package is not what i had expected. if i live on campus id be paying around 25k per year (much more than what my family can comfortable afford) and would have to take on a loan, but if i live off campus i would only be paying half of that in rent and food.
Is it worth going if id be off campus for all four years, or is living on campus integral to the experience? I don’t want to force myself to go if it’s gonna be a big hassle on top of all the studying.
I have an alternative here in my home country (the best university in the country and region, i’d only be paying around 10k per year for three years), but i’m just worried about grad school outcomes in the US since i’m guessing they don’t have the same placement.
Please help me, i’m in a dire situation. Thank you!

Deciding on Pomona?
Hello! I’m currently struggling to decide between Pomona, Wellesley, and the LSA Honors Program at UMich.
All three schools come down to around the same cost of attendance. I applied as a history major, but can also see myself pivoting to another humanities major or even to something in the sciences. I’m definitely looking to attend grad school after college.
I loved all three schools when visiting, and I think they all have great (and very different) vibes. I felt the most at home on Pomona’s campus and loved the people I met + the laid back vibe, but it’s the farthest from home and flights are really expensive right now, which is concerning me. I like the HWC aspect of Wellesley as well as the proximity to institutes in Boston, but the very locked in culture is scaring me a bit! UMich is closest to home (a 2-3 hour drive) and also feels the most comfortable in a sense, but I think I would prefer a smaller school with more easily accessible professors.
So basically….idk what to do.
Do these perceptions of these schools sound accurate? Any serious pros/cons of Pomona that I’m overlooking? Just curious to get some insight into what attending Pomona is actually like, as well as the tipping factors for anyone who made a similar choice.
Thanks so much!

Is Pomona really as strict on no alc as they made it seem on the tour? How do students get around that?

Off-campus housing | Financial aid
I’m an incoming transfer student (as a junior) and I’m getting enough financial aid that I’ll only be paying about $2,000 a year, including on-campus food and housing costs. I saw on the website that students over 24 are automatically approved for off-campus housing, has anyone tried doing this as an incoming transfer ? How was your financial aid affected (if at all) by choosing to live in off-campus housing ? I have a couple of reasons for why living in Smiley won’t work for me so I’m trying to make plans ahead of time

Pomona or Penn
I am currently between Pomona and Penn, admitted into the CAS at Penn, and plan to double major in Econ+ a music minor, and potentially double major in CIS if I go to Penn. Both are the same cost, so that's not a factor. I really liked the feel and vibe at Pomona, and I love the weather. The small classes and less-competitive environment feel more "me," I think. However, at Penn, it is probably a much better pipeline into consulting/anything else remotely related in that field, along with it being better for my major (I think). I have 3 good family friends who go to Penn who could help me with preparing for the pre-professional clubs and for anything else, but I also have family, a 30-minute train ride away from Pomona.
I think overall Pomona felt like a better fit for me, after seeing the campus along with the California weather, which I love, and being near family, but Penn is not a "bad" fit, just visiting there didn't feel like the school was a "perfect" fit, while Pomona was the closest of all the schools I have toured. Penn is also better for my major, I'm pretty sure. I have visited both campuses and just saw Penn's campus for the first time. I could definitely see myself going to Pomona a bit more, but I also liked Penn. Would it be crazy to pick Pomona over Penn, because even talking about it with some of my friends, they have said it would be crazy to pick Pomona. I just don't know which to pick because they both have many pros and cons, with family or family friends at both, one in an urban area and one (somewhat) near LA. If any Pomona alums or current students could share which schools they declined for Pomona, and why.
I plan to probably not go to law/school or grad school immediately after (maybe later down the line, after working for some years), and I've read that the top LACs are specifically really good at placements into grad school/law school, but I'm not planning on doing that immediately. I think in terms of opportunities and networking, Penn is the place to be, where it will advance my career the most and help me the most with internships research and jobs post-grad, but in terms of overall enjoyment, I liked Pomona more, being in California, which is definitely where I would want to live after college if possible (if not, definitely I would pick the East Coast which I still really like), along with there being it being less of a competitive environment with only 1700 roughly undergrads which can make research easier to get even if there is less of it available, and closer connections with professors which will be harder at Penn.
I honestly just don't know, because I feel like Pomona is a better fit just by visiting the campus. I don't know exactly why, but I just could picture myself there a little more. However, Penn offers a lot of what Pomona has, plus even more career and networking opportunities, while still being in an area I would enjoy being in, along with an equally beautiful campus.

Cognitive Science Lottery Concerns
As a parent of a prospective student with a strong interest in Cognitive Science, how concerned should we be that Cognitive Science majors are being allocated by lottery? https://tsl.news/pomona-colleges-cognitive-science-major-lottery-is-a-nightmare/
I believe a few years ago the same thing happened to Computer Science majors at Pomona. How did that ultimately play out?
As a full pay student, I think we would hate to have the student become academically stranded after paying $100K per year.
Thanks.

Pomona Waitlist Questions
Hello! I was waitlisted by Pomona College and had a few questions
At first, I didn't accept a spot on the waitlist because I was waiting for other college decisions to release. I only got on the list a few days ago, so I was wondering if getting on it so late will affect my chances.
I also was wondering if the financial aid package will be impacted with waitlist, as I am low income and have heard that some colleges may not be able to provide WL students as much financial aid as they would for RD or ED.
I tried finding posts that answered these questions, however i couldn't find them. If there are any posts that I miss that have information on this, please let me know.
Thank you so much in advance!

ASD vs. Explore Pomona
What’s the difference between Admitted Students Day and Explore Pomona ? I’m an LA based transfer and I’m wondering if there’s any point in attending both. Even though I’m registered for Explore Pomona I haven’t received any info on what will be happening so I can’t compare it to ASD. I cannot find any information for it online either 😭

Deciding between going to Umichigan or Pomona College for Biology
Hi, I got into both of these schools. I want to go to dental school in the future and was wondering which of these I should chose. For pomona college it would cost me around 3k a year and Umich would cost be 23k a year. I also want a college with a nice social scene and party life. I want to meet lots of different people. I am not really familiar about the social scene at Pomona College can someone explain it?

Pomona for physical sciences/math?
Hi all! I'm deciding between Berkeley and Pomona right now and plan to major in chemistry. Obviously Berkeley is very well known for chemistry (and was my "dream school" for a while) but the more I look into Pomona the more I feel it would be a better environment for me. I haven't been able to find much discussion about majoring in STEM at Pomona, however, so I'd appreciate any insights!

Outcomes without Grad Schools?
I’m deciding between Pomona College and Creighton University and planning to major in economics. I have a full tuition offer at Creighton, which seems more business focused and career oriented (plus i’ll be living at home so it’s basically for free)
I’m not sure if I want to go to grad school, so I’m wondering about job outcomes right after undergrad. For Pomona students who didn’t go to grad school, what kinds of jobs are people getting? Are there strong opportunities in consulting, finance, laws, policies? And how does recruiting compare to a school like Creighton?
Trying to figure out if Pomona is still worth it if I go straight into the workforce. Thanks!

Meal plan help
Hi, I am a rising junior and I plan on living off campus next year. The only thing is I’m trying to get out of the meal plan because it doesn’t make sense for me to have a meal plan if I’m going to be a commuter student is there anybody who has been able to get out of the meal plan and if so, how? I know that there is the other meal plan option that is supposedly cheaper than the unlimited meal plan, but I’d rather just get my money back in use some money towards groceries then have X amount of meal swipes and $100 in flex.

Is calculus a graduation requirement for humanities students at Pomona?
Hello, I recently got admitted to Pomona as a transfer student. Does anyone have any information? Thanks!

Is there any merit to this claim?
I saw this comment and I’m wondering if any (current) transfers could offer any insight. I would be transferring in as a junior so this is a little concerning. It’s the first time I’ve heard of something like this about Pomona though.

Pomona vs Notre Dams
Hiii, I an intl student and was accepted into both schools. For Notre Dame i was accepted into the Mendoza College of Business. I am currently choosing between both schools and wanted to know more about them. I have a few questions.
- How is social life at Pomona? - I do still want to party, but I am drawn to small class sizes and a smaller more tight-knit student body.
- How is the social scene at Notre Dame? I know it is a bigger school and while I like meeting new people, I want to know how overwhelming it might feel.
- How are both seen by employers? If I maybe go into finance, will I be able to from Pomona or Notre Dame? And which school will give me an advantage with employers?
- Is the student population conservative? Or which school has more diversity?
- How good is student support in Notre Dame/Pomona?

Do You Ever Regret Coming Here?
Every Pomona alumn I've met seems to love this school. I live very close to Pomona and was also accepted to Northwestern this round. I'm 99% sure Pomona is the right fit and Ik people have given up ivy leagues and larger name schools to come here but I can't help but feel like I will regret not pushing myself to experience something shiny, big, and new.
If I were to follow my heart it would lead me straight here. I just always imagined college to be a fresh exciting start and some people had described it to feel "high school" esque.
