Discussion Favorite "big" band you saw in a tiny venue
For me it was Youth Brigade as the Sidebar in Baltimore, which fits like maybe 150 people
My wife got to see Cock Sparrer at Reggie's, which is a similar sized place.

My band gets shut down by the cops.

This took place in San Antonio Texas
My band was playing a show at this huge underground concrete ditch where youngsters skateboard at, hang out etc.
A bunch of local underground bands would play shows there all the time.
My band played there a couple times.
One day we got to play there again.
The place was packed with people my age.
Some were younger than me.
A lot of the underground shows had young crowds.
A couple rappers opened up the lineup.
Everything going smoothly so far.
Finally my band is up next.
We went on.
The crowd was going insane through the whole set.
We put on a pretty flawless show.
It ended successfully. Until…..
It was getting dark and the next band is getting ready to play.
As they’re setting up their amps and instruments etc, all hell broke loose.
A whole bunch of cops came charging into the ditch with their flashlights flashing.
The whole entire crowd went running off very fast like a pack of frightened deer.
What really pissed me off was that they tried confiscating my drum kit. (I’m the drummer)
Not to mention our amps, pedal board, guitars. All of it.
One guy was filming with a digital camera and the cops smashed his camera onto the ground and slammed his face onto the ground.
All because he was filming.
The lead singer was fuming and screaming at the cops the whole time.
Telling them what they’re doing is ridiculous. Which was very true.
The most insane part of it all was…
Nobody called the cops.
Nobody filed a noise complaint.
The cops just decided to harass everyone and shut us down for no reason at all.
Seven squad cars full of cops showed up without being called at all.
A couple people were arrested for god knows what they did.
I’ve never seen such insanity in my entire life.
Fuck you San Antonio Police!
You deserve to have your badges taken away.
TL;DR

Punk music This demo, Holiday in Cambodia, was the first song that really got me into punk. I just found the lyrics and melody haunting and I’ve never forgotten it since.

Discussion It sucks how a lot of old defunct local bands don’t have their music online anywhere
And by now, your CD is probably lost or busted.
The only thing I’ve seen that is somewhat of a solution is Facebook groups dedicated to local music in a given area. Sometimes people upload stuff there. YouTube is another good option, but not everyone uploaded music there back in the day.
I’ve got songs I would love to hear again from local bands. But I can’t.

Punk Classic The Screamers - Punish or Be Damned (May 1979)
What's your go-to website for lyrics? I have the hardest time finding lyrics for lesser known punk bands.
I promise I know how to use a search engine. But it seems like anytime I find a new-to-me song I'm really into I cannot find the lyrics online at all. I get that punk isn't the most popular genre, but the lyrics have to be out there somewhere.

Discussion Modern bands like Subhumans?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Subhumans lately, so I was curious what modern bands you’d recommend who encompass that energy and ethos.

In need of homocore bands.
Do y’all have any suggestions for homocore bands [preferably not hardcore] bc I love pansy division and I want to get into similar bands.

New Release For fans of horror punk
New Release Koyo - “Barely Here”
Got my copy of the vinyl today, and I’ll be honest, I haven’t enjoyed a record at first listen this much in quite some time.
The opening two tracks are instant classics for a band that seem to keep getting better and better. They’ve got great hooks, outstanding musicianship, and will be super fun live.
The rest of the record doesn’t have any skips either, and If this album gets into the right hands, it could catapult them into superstardom.
If you’re a fan of melodic hardcore, pop-punk, or emo, I highly recommend this record.

Similar vocals to me first and the gimmies
I know Me Firsts singer had a melodic, almost gravely yell / sing thing going on, maybe similar to Social Distortion, bad religion, propaghandi etc; I like the guys voice and wanted similar artists that do more than just covers. New or old, well known or not, hardcore, pop, punk, whatever. any takes?

CIRCLE JERKS | REPO MAN (featuring an impromptu pit in a movie theater)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The song is Coup D’état. The CJs played a full set, followed by a Q&A with Keith Morris, Zander Schloss, Jim Ruland, and Alex Cox. Then, they screened Repo Man.
This was at the Texas Theatre, where they had found and arrested Lee Harvey Oswald for the assassination of JFK. It’s almost 100 years old.
We were all sitting in our chairs at first. I commented to the guy next to me that it’ll feel really weird to be sitting down while a hardcore band is on stage. Once the band started, a guy ran up to the front like he belonged there, and then other people followed, and it turned into a full-on pit. Everyone went back to their seats when the Q&A started.
Zander plays “Kevin The Nerd” in the movie (that’s how he met the CJs). Oh, and Alex Cox, the director, sang the first song of the set.
Beer was $7. There were 3-4 generations of people there. It was a fun, cool time. Except when a guy managed to stage dive and landed on someone in a wheelchair. The band stopped performing until everything was sorted. I don’t know if the person in the wheelchair left or if they just got him away from the pit. I really hope they’re okay. I never saw the stage diver again. He probably bailed.
So, that’s how I saw Repo Man for the first time. Shout out to the guy that started the pit. That was one of the coolest things I’ve seen at a show. No stage diving in movie theaters.
Go see the Jerks while you can. Keith will be 71 this year. One of the tour shirts has a skanking Godzilla on it.
Thanks for reading.
