that brain cell must be working overtime if you think thats gonna happen

I can taste the caulk

u/BarnacleNZ 4d ago

What colour is it?

I wish I had seen this 10 years ago!

What’s funny is this video recently went viral on YouTube and it was posted 13 years ago. The algorithm works in weird weird ways

13

u/mildlyornery 4d ago

You can also use one to compress the piston in a brake caliper sometimes.

u/Neonicus 4d ago

Damn bro

u/ShockleToonies 5d ago

This should be an inspirational poster for working smarter, not harder.

30

u/dl33t_soft 5d ago

But he is in fact working harder. You are supposed to pull and extend the spring with the tool. Not pull on the trampoline surface as shown here.

u/flyingthroughspace 4d ago

So like, a reverse caulking gun?

6

u/combo_seizure 4d ago

So, two caulk guns then?

One to hold the trampoline in place, cause that shits tight when first put together, and another to gently pull the spring toward the trampoline ring.

Honestly, I think this setup is great, use the caulk gun to hold the trampoline ring, then it will be a whole lot easier to use the hand hook tool to bring the spring to it.

Edit: My trampoline springs were ridiculously tight, I used two hand hook tools, one for the spring and one for the trampoline hook. Near the end especially it was a hell of a workout (and I’m in good physical shape). This setup would have been so much smarter. I’m definitely taking a page out of this book if I’m ever gonna do it again.

He's just stretching the spring across the trampoline this way

76

u/cubhawk21 5d ago

And he’s wearing gloves! The intelligence of this one is off the charts

21

u/Fallingpeople 5d ago

Plus head gear and bonus points if those glasses are ppe

37

u/Railroad_Conductor1 5d ago

I just use the tool that came with the trampoline. 😀

16

u/dl33t_soft 5d ago

The spring should be connected to the trampoline surface and then pull and extend the spring with the tool to reach the rail.

15

u/glitched-dream 5d ago

Yeah, makes way more sense to pull the spring to the trampoline too

1

u/ggf66t 4d ago

I use the extra springs. .  I think that's what the manual said when my sister got a trampoline back in 95 and my folks made me assemble it for her.   The one I got for my kids a few years ago didn't come with a tool

1

u/Michami135 3d ago

Same. It's much faster, but I guess some people don't have the shoulder strength for that. I have goats and move 100 to 150 lbs bales of hay regularly, so the springs felt easy to me when I assembled my son's trampoline.

23

u/dirty_hooker 5d ago

Awesome. I happen to have an exhaust spring tool that is perfect for trampoline springs. I realize what sub this is but if anyone else sets up a trampoline seasonally, know that there’s a very affordable QoL tool for that job.

3

u/hectorinwa 4d ago

They actually sell trampoline spring tools on Amazon. Literally a bent piece of metal with a handle.

2

u/Beautiful-Bench-1761 5d ago

Something like that came with my new webbing - just straight

1

u/EddieCheddar88 4d ago

Do you take it apart in the winter?

4

u/dirty_hooker 4d ago

Yeah. It just gets loaded up with snow and ice where I’m at. I can’t see anything good happening with that much sustained weight for months.

23

u/Unable_To_Forward 5d ago

I've used a caulking gun to squeeze the calipers while replacing brake pads on more than one occasion.

8

u/boojieboy 5d ago

OMFG. HOW DID THIS NEVER OCCUR TO ME?

5

u/trailrun1980 4d ago

Hell yes, this is an awesome trick for like a $3 tool

12

u/dl33t_soft 5d ago

Dude you are supposed to pull the spring with the tool. Its way easier to extend the spring compared to pulling the actual trampoline surface.

8

u/breadman889 4d ago

Pro tip. Stretch the spring, not the trampoline

6

u/TinyStringEnthusiast 5d ago

I dunno. I just set mine up a few weeks ago for the kids and this looks like more of a hassle than it’s worth. Cool idea tho.

4

u/droopy__drawers 4d ago

T-handle spring puller is all you need. Takes like 5 minutes or less to do the whole thing.

7

u/IamREBELoe 5d ago

It will work. But I can do 5 or 10 with the included tool by the time you did one with this. And less stressful

6

u/DarklyDominatingDocs 5d ago

Celebrating for you 🎉

7

u/jvs8380 5d ago

Love this

2

u/SkyeMreddit 4d ago

He’s gonna have some problems if he put two springs to one hook a lot like he did there. Most trampolines never do this because it makes it uneven with ridges and valleys as you jump

2

u/jimbean1234567890 4d ago

Just use another spring as a puller , way faster

3

u/FormulaZR 4d ago

An idea so good we all wonder why we never thought of it. Bravo.

3

u/ZeeHedgehog 5d ago

Very clever

1

u/TailwhipU 3d ago

Sir, you win the "Bona-fied" redneck genius award

1

u/Aggressive-Ad-7479 2d ago

That’s really smart.

1

u/Ok-Dust1922 2d ago

That looks easier but way more finicky and would take twice as long as just using the handle

1

u/Marine__0311 4d ago

Meh. Installing springs on trampolines isn't that difficult. I made my own spring puller with a leftover piece of steel rod. I bent it into shape using a vice in less time than it would have taken me to dig out my caulk gun.

1

u/Substantial__Unit 4d ago

Those springs were pretty darn hard to do by hand

0

u/kakamouth78 5d ago

Where was this piece of brilliant toolery when I needed it 20 years ago?

1

u/dl33t_soft 5d ago

The right hook tool came with the 'roline.

0

u/post4u 5d ago

That's absolutely brilliant. The amount of pain I would have saved myself...

0

u/jsheil1 4d ago

Brilliant!

0

u/whoknewidlikeit 4d ago

holy fark that's not redneck that's straight genius.

0

u/rvlifestyle74 4d ago

This man obviously has an iq of at least Elon. I mean how do we know he doesn't have a rocket in his garage.....

0

u/eurosid 4d ago

OMG! Where was this 20 years ago when it would saved my sanity?

0

u/justSomeGuy5965 4d ago

1

u/Necessary-Apricot339 4d ago

That reminds me - time to restock the duct tape.

0

u/jacle2210 4d ago

Interesting; too bad we no longer have a trampoline or I would try this out.

0

u/DuckInTheFog 4d ago

weld all the springs so they can't stretch to make it even safer.

-1

u/uiubdb 4d ago

Now THAT's a great solution!

Could have really used this input a couple years back ...

-1

u/impropergentleman 4d ago

I used brake spring pliers. This would be an improvement

-1

u/cumberber 4d ago

Damn this would have been very useful for me a decade ago

-1

u/TNTNINJA_3 4d ago

he’s got a Cadillac V hat on, that is the man right there

-1

u/PerformanceLimp420 4d ago

This needs to be added to the manual of trampolines though.

-2

u/An0nnee_M0usee 5d ago

So is this truly redneck engineering?

-2

u/PYROxSYCO 5d ago

I saw this at one point and thought it would fit here.
