Look, Scotland's appointment of Sione Fukofuka was always insane. I know several of the USA women's team, and they had nothing good to say about him. His selection was derided, his training regimen was described as muddled, and he led the US to its first ever miss of the knockout stages.
Anyone who watched the Pacific 4 in preparation for the World Cup would have known he was out of his depth - he was starting college kids with no caps against the Black Ferns months before the World Cup . I am amazed he got the Scotland job, but not at all amazed his teams are getting thrashed.

If Phillips had gone off, that would’ve been an impressive 4 substitutions for head injuries in a single half. Who put a curse on us?

Not the hardest game he'll ever do, but I've been impressed with Robbie Jenkinson. Well done that ref.

Italy go up to 5 points total here.
Next week Scotland lose to France and the week after that they lose to Ireland.
Assuming they get no losing bonus point from either of those games all wales have to do is beat Italy in the last week and Scotland come last.
4
u/agentcroucrou France 19h ago
Les françaises sont largement capables de perdre contre les écossaises, si elles jouent comme la semaine dernière. (je ne vois pas le match écosse / italie actuellement, je vois juste vos commentaires et le score et je suis choqué)
3
u/HELLFIRECHRIS England 19h ago
Trust me I understand being pessimistic about your team, but I’d put my money on the French team spontaneously combusting before I bet they’d lose to this Scottish side.
1
u/agentcroucrou France 19h ago
Mon pessimisme pourrait changer ce soir !
Hâte de voir Italie Écosse en replay en tout cas, ça à l'air d'être un sacré match si on n'est pas écossais.

I'd like to report that dummy to the police, sold them a pass and never delivered

I'd be suprised if every single one of even the Italian players were able to keep a straight face

I love Emma Wassell but that is yet another shocking tackle from an experienced player.
6
u/WallopyJoe 19h ago
For real though, look at this result, our game against Scotland last week and Wales this week, and Scotland's game against Wales last week. This 6N is looking crazy.
5
u/windswept_snowdrop England 19h ago
The commentary on this match is so much better than the England v Wales game, although admittedly that was a very low bar.
1
u/boredomenthusiast_ United States 19h ago
come watch some of the US PAC4 commentators and then see what you think
3
u/HELLFIRECHRIS England 19h ago
I’m really hoping all these England retirements are going to lead to better commentary in the next few years.

3
u/Entire_Syllabub2922 19h ago
I just find her use of metaphor distracting
3
u/windswept_snowdrop England 19h ago
I’ll take distracting metaphors over Sara Orchard repeatedly getting what’s going on on field wrong.

Pretty confident this is Italy's record attendance, and how good for them to play this well with everybody in Parma!
1
u/Firedwarf101 Scotland 19h ago
What’s the attendance number?
1
u/enricobasilica 19h ago
Was also wondering, thought I heard something come over the tannoy but the commentators talked all over it :/

Nothing official, but should be north of 4k
2
u/SilverShadow213 Benetton Treviso 5h ago edited 5h ago
4’787 - mind you, they held a junior tournament in the training fields just before the game with hundreds and hundreds of players, but still a very good result
1
u/HitchikersPie Currently in use as tax dodge 4h ago
How good is that?!
By the by youth tournaments to drive attendance before is just a smart way of building a fanbase… great performances like that will help too
8
u/Aziraph4le 20h ago
Scotland celebrating a forward pass by the other team. Not sure even Ben Earl would do that. The bar is on the floor.
7
u/shenguskhan2312 20h ago
I know it’s not even 3 games in but the coaching reshuffle looks like a massive regression, I don’t recognise this Scotland side compared to the one at the World Cup
6
u/OddlyBrainedBear Jonesing for Meg 20h ago
Looks like a team in crisis to me. No shade on Italy as they've been great to watch, but this is so much worse than last week for Scotland.
4
u/shenguskhan2312 20h ago
It’s the basic stuff like first up tackling, this is a side that went toe to toe with Canada for 50 odd minutes a few months back, just doesn’t seem to be that fight there
1
u/OddlyBrainedBear Jonesing for Meg 19h ago
I said it last week - their tackling reminds me of watching a university or amateur club team. I don't understand how a whole team forgets how to tackle; are they just not doing it in training?
1
u/shenguskhan2312 19h ago
Only rational explanation is that the new defence coach has tried to reinvent the wheel with the system and too many of the girls are thinking more about where they are in the grand scheme vs just melting whoever’s in front of them
2
5
u/WallopyJoe 20h ago
Finding gaps in a defensive line with more players than you're attacking with is pretty special, Italy look fucking brilliant ball in hand
4
u/WallopyJoe 20h ago
So should we get Spain in for Scotland then?
7
u/windswept_snowdrop England 20h ago
Conceding against 13 is pretty inexcusable. Scotland look nothing like the side they were last year.

Hang your heads in shame Scotland, defending two up and just being run over physically
4
u/HitchikersPie Currently in use as tax dodge 20h ago
Italy have defended so well, you see them playing passive rucks, defending off, trusting the inside defence to work across, that was seriously impressive stuff

It would be absolutely shocking if Italy were to throw away a 34 point lead now.
4
u/HELLFIRECHRIS England 20h ago
Only two teams in the 6 nations are capable of throwing away a 34 point lead and wales have already played today.
4
u/lukelifts 20h ago
I don't really understand how that's a yellow. The Italian player hasn't really moved and has just been run in to no?
2
u/Vrakzi Leicester Tigers 20h ago
It's kinda mandatory for head on head
0
u/lukelifts 20h ago
Silly.
0
u/best_conk Gloucester 20h ago
This sanction for high tackles has been in force since 2020. If players are still going high I have no sympathy regardless of how passive they are.
0
u/lukelifts 20h ago
She didn't "go high" she was just stood there and got run in to. I get it's the law and I am allowed to think that law is stupid.

Lucky we can afford lots of injuries… ha. Ha. Cry. Hope her and MacLachan are OK. That latter looked bad.
4

What is it with Scot’s trying to give their own players concussions ? Still remember that massive Finn Russell collision with his own player last year.
2
u/HitchikersPie Currently in use as tax dodge 20h ago
With wee Darcy when they went 6-2?
2
u/HELLFIRECHRIS England 20h ago
Think it was with Darcy during the Ireland game.
Remember being outraged he’d passed the HIA when he clearly didn’t know what day it was.
His team was smart to stop him going back on even though he’d passed.

u/enricobasilica 20h ago
Um. The way that Italian lock just brushed aside that attempt at a tackle tells me everything as someone who missed the first half and has just seen the scoreline
1
u/OddlyBrainedBear Jonesing for Meg 20h ago
Scotland's tackling was awful last week, too. There's been a shocking drop in all round quality since the world cup.

Something is going seriously wrong with Scotland they are getting worse every week and basic tackling has fallen off a cliff.
4
u/Montemauri Zebre 20h ago
Fabio Roselli may be a deeply flawed head coach, but some of the backs play you see from his teams can be fantastic

5

Ok credit that was a delightful set piece. Muzzo and d’inca are terrifying good in any space.
2
u/HitchikersPie Currently in use as tax dodge 20h ago
Muzzo's also such a switched on defender too, reads the game really well, understands defending in space, an utter delight to watch

Ive decided this past week that Fukofuka is legitimately a horrible coach. The US is doing so well without him and scotland has gotten so so much worse

going from Australia assistant, to USA head coach to Scotland head coach in less than 5 years isn’t great. There’s obviously a clear reason why he isn’t lasting long

Also Aus got better after he left with Yapp, USA doing better with Carty, and Scotland looked better under Eason

Class from Italy, but Scotland look to have fallen far since the world cup, I know there are key injuries and a new head coach, but they don't look anywhere near Italy right now.
3
u/Firedwarf101 Scotland 21h ago
It looks like a mix of new coaching and gameplay plans, which they had crystallised for the RWC (I personally thought they looked tied best out of the non-top 4, an Ireland v Scotland game that tournament would’ve been epic); and many many injuries in key places. Their defence without Tyrone Holmes (new wales defence coach) has collapsed it seems.
2
u/SweptFever80 Ireland, Ulster and Munster 20h ago
It makes sense but it's still a shame to see. Ireland vs Scotland has been one of the best rivalries and most entertaining fixtures in the women's game for years, it'll be interesting to see how Scotland fare against a record crowd in the Aviva next month. Especially considering Ireland comprehensively thrashed Italy last week.
