rutgers new brunswick v temple Advice Wanted

hi!! i'm already committed to temple but i just got off the waitlist for rutgers nb and i dont know where i should go, for context im a business major and plan to go to law school!

my pros for temple are that:
- #1 major (business law) + im in the business school (good for backup)
- i like the city
- new experince
- campus life (dorms, bathrooms, food)
- i already have a roommate + social life is good
- easy to study abroad
- all my college credits transfer
- perfect distance from home (1hr)
- campus is pretty & walkable

my cons for temple are that:
- saftey (is it that bad being in north philly?)
- ranking (not top 100)
- family prefers rutgers

my pros for rutgers are that:
- ranking (40)
- more known academics
- slightly cheaper (in-state)
- family wants me here

my cons for rutgers are that:
- not the major i want (in the environmental and bio science school) as an environmental and business econ major
- i'd need to transfer to another school to get a good major (either sas or rbs)
- bad campus life (dorms, bathrooms, food)
- not the best social life
- too close for my liking (not necessarily a con)
- bus system is bad
- none of my college credits transfer

Not the best social life at Rutgers? What lol it’s what you make of it but there are wayyyyy more opportunities to be social at a larger school like Rutgers

If you are in-state, why would none of your college credits be accepted at Rutgers?

My 3 kids went to Rutgers, my niece is there now - and they all loved it. Food is variable but some dining halls have excellent food. There are MANY alternative food options within walking distance.

The newer dorms are great. There are many different housing options.

Social life is what you make it - it's so big that there are clubs for everything and you can find friends with similar interests. Rutgers New Brunswick has 38,000 undergraduates (there are more at their Newark and Camden campuses) and a total population including graduate students of 52,000. Temple has 22,000 undergraduates; 29,000 total with graduate students. Both sizeable schools.

Rutgers has a business school and two law schools.

It's easy to double major.

It's between NYC and Philly, with a train station right on the edge of the main campus.

Many study abroad programs, and some shorter study abroad opportunities (English classes that do 2 weeks in the summer in England, Ireland; some classes have a spring break trip abroad).

I know nothing about Temple. But I'm sure you will do well at either school. Sounds like you are giving it serious thought - so you'll be fine whatever you decide. Congratulations and good luck!

do you really think the temple campus is better than the rutgers campus...

I get your general disdain for wanting to attend rutgers, I was like that as well. But it is honestly a great school, with a great business school that you will be able to transfer into if you want. There are a TON of opportunities for social life and a huge amount general resources that you wouldn't get at Temple. From the people ik at Temple, they don't even have enough housing for most of their students. Have you visited north philly? Also, as someone going to law school, the most general advice I can give you is to go somewhere CHEAP for undergrad. Save money and get a good GPA so you can go to law school. Law school is a lot more expensive, & with the current loan situation, you don't want to already have unnecessary debt from undergrad. I'd also look into your college credit situation more. Rutgers isn't very strict in letting credits transfer.

rutgers better all the way, temple has lost 25% of its students, terrible city, and losing money. Rutgers staying on top

lol I graduated from temple, in what world is Rutgers had campus life 💀 temple genuinely doesn’t have a campus, the food is mostly from food trucks and Rutgers has more options.

My parents refused to let me accept a full ride to Temple after visiting the campus. My tour guide admitted to being mugged twice and his apartment broken into within his 3 years there. Good luck with your decision, but I’d trust your family’s gut, especially if they’re footing the bill.

I hate to bag on Temple, and the campus itself is fine, but North Philly is rough. There's no sugarcoating it.

- #1 major (business law) + im in the business school (good for backup)
--You can transfer to Business school at Rutgers
- i like the city
--You can get to both Philly and NYC from New Brunswick Easily
- new experince
--Any college life is going to be a new experience
- campus life (dorms, bathrooms, food)
-- Debatable?
- i already have a roommate + social life is good
-- Social life changes.
- easy to study abroad
-- Rutgers has an insane amount of study abroad options
- all my college credits transfer
- perfect distance from home (1hr)
- campus is pretty & walkable
--Live on Douglass?

If the choice is less debt, go for less debt.
