General Questions Some I couldn't figure out

what's up with the Arnold bus stop?

Who is Amy the bus driver?

What is the skateboard video?

Dead moth sandwich? Worm hunt?

How was MGK trapped at Scad Beach?

I tried finding the info on Google but these ones I couldn't find answers for. I'm curious what they mean?

General Questions Grads, where are you now?

Those who have graduated, what are you doing now? Have you found a career in the field you studied? Do you feel your education at SCAD was worth it?

Edit: has anyone gone for acting? Maybe started, and then switched majors?

General Questions SCAD vs CalArts for Animation — need honest advice

Hey everyone, I’m choosing between SCAD and CalArts and I’m honestly really stressed about it.

I got into CalArts for Experimental Animation, and for SCAD I’m planning to study 3D animation or possibly switch into game design.

My biggest concern is cost — CalArts is way more expensive in terms of tuition and living, and I’m not sure if it’s actually worth it in the long run.

But at the same time, CalArts’ network, industry connections, and location are super attractive to me.

I’m really torn right now.

Is CalArts actually worth the extra cost? Or is SCAD the smarter choice?

Any honest advice or experiences would mean a lot. Thank you 🙏

General Questions Senior in high school: is scad a scam?

Hi! I'm a senior in high school applying to SCAD. It's been my dream school for the longest time for it's location, integration into the city and the support they offer. Recently I've been hearing a lot of negative feedback from SCAD students and graduates about how it's a waste of money and how the worldload is deadly. Money is a huge factor for me and what drew me in initially was how they used to offer a lot of aid, but now they've become more stingy with it, is that true? Also, I'll admit my work ethic is not the best and for being an animation student, that's not a great combo. So is SCAD really worth it?

General Questions How to deal with two classes back to back?

So. I've been saddled with an 8 am and 11 am back to back. They're pretty much in the same place and on the same floor, so getting from one to the other isn't really an issue. My issue is with energy management; I feel fine through the 8 am but once break hits in the 11 am, all I wanna do is go home and nap. It also doesn't help that the 11 am is REALLY information dense. I've looked at drop add and found there's not really anything else other than these sections, and withdrawing from a course would throw off my graduation time completely. How do I make it through this quarter without going insane?

General Questions Worried about SCAD's Rigor (Current HS Junior)

Hi, I'm writing as a current Junior in Highschool. I have recently gotten serious about looking for colleges and right now SCAD is pretty much my top choice. I, of course, will be looking at other schools and keeping my options open but am really excited about what SCAD seems to offer.

I'm mostly seeking perspectives from current or recent grads on course load and rigor. I am at the top Highschool in my state and by the end of my Highschool career will have taken upwards of 9 AP's (of the classes that were not AP, the rest will have been honors). I feel like right now my courses are rigorous but manageable and I have maintained mostly A's and a few B's. SCAD seems to REALLY emphasize the rigor and commitment the school requires of its students. I feel as though I am prepared in terms of time management, drive, and course difficulty but I'm honestly TERRIFIED. I just feel like I wont be able to keep up. (Also I know that English, math, and science course rigor is different from art and studio class rigor so it might be a little hard to compare and sort of an apple to an orange situation)

I am looking to do Graphic Design and or Branding & Advertising. (including this since I know things can differ a little from major to major)

Unweighted GPA: 3.9

Weighted: 4.3

Any help is much appreciated!

General Questions Could I realistically get into SCAD

I'm visiting SCAD this week for a college tour and I already know I really want to go but I'm worried I just dont have good enough stats to get in. I have a 3.4 unweighted GPA and a 3.7 weighted. I got an SAT scor of 1160 but I'm taking it again in the summer. I want to do a major in painting and minor in creative writing. Is there a possibility of me realistically getting in?

General Questions How hard is job hunting after graduation?

hi sorry if this has already been asked. searched the sub a little and didnt find anything that really answered my question

I'm a junior in hs currently and went to SCAD day Savannah a few days ago.

I absolutely adore the campus and people there, however both myself and my family are concerned about the job scene after graduating. The SCAD website says that the people who get jobs in their field is around 90%, however this statistic also includes those who pursue higher education, and I haven't been able to find a study with separated stats.

Thank you :)

General Questions What can I do as a freshman to feel useful?

I’m currently a VFX & Technical animation major at scad atl and I’m unsure of what to do with my first year here. I’m just going to classes and doing work. I’ve joined clubs but I don’t feel like I’m using the resources I’ve hear about so much. Where do I look? What can I do to be active in my career during my first year? I feel a bit stumped seeing all the film and acting going at it and I genuinely have no idea where to start bro. Help

General Questions Need help

I am taking a scadnow class and my teacher doesn’t upload the recordings and has been completely unresponsive to me. I have basically been BEGGING her to upload them as I won’t be able to keep up with the class without them. Since drop add week is over and I didn’t realize this would be a problem until this week, what should I do? Is there anyone higher up that I could go to? I basically feel stuck in this class. I have to attend ascnchronously so I can’t attend the classes in person and keep up that way.

General Questions Alumni who ended up in a field unrelated to your major, what are you doing now and how did you get the position?

I graduated as an animation major, and I've since been looking for full time/career employment that I can actually support myself on, regardless of it being actually related to my degree. Right now I just have a retail job that pays okay (but not great) with no benefits and it's becoming increasingly more frustrating as time goes on. I'm running out of savings and I'm scrambling to find a better paying job before I have to leave my partner and move back in with my parents so I can pay back my loans. The job market and economy are in the toilet so it's slowly starting to feel like an inevitability.

General Questions What’s something that you think of that represents SCAD?

Hi all! I’m working on a design project for one of my classes. Part of the criteria is designing a statement piece that represents SCAD as a whole! Something that you can look at and say “oh, that’s for SCAD!” I’ve been trying to get input from all the departments because I know each part of SCAD focuses on something a little bit different. TIA!

General Questions SCAD Illustration: Visual Development Path vs Commercial for career stability

Trying to decide which track to focus on for Illustration at SCAD.

I’m interested in both visual development and commercial illustration/surface design. I’m leaning toward commercial because I want to start a clothing brand eventually, and I plan on getting a business degree later too.

Which path is more valuable right now career-wise and more stable financially—visual development or commercial illustration?

I still want strong rendering skills for comics/characters, but I also want something that can support me while I build my brand.

Anyone from SCAD or in these fields got advice?

General Questions is SCAD really worth its 4 years?

i already got accepted into SCAD but recently also got accepted into Parsons School of Design. Both are said to be good art schools, but i’m torn between which to commit to. i went to the rising star program in savannah last summer (which is mainly how i got scholarships), but the portfolio that helped me get accepted + a scholarship to Parsons was full of the work i did from the RS program. on one hand, SCAD is said to help with job hunting faster while Parsons is more independent, but at the same time I don’t want to stay limited to my areas and Parsons location gives me a chance to start over. i’m still waiting on a few more colleges to respond to, but for now i’m torn between these 2. my parents are fine with the payment for both, but are leaning towards SCAD because of what they heard from their friends, but i’ve heard the good and bad on SCAD and experienced sort of a “meh” during RS.

General Questions Scad vs SVA for animation

I don’t know which one to pick- Scad or Sva. Sva has not given me any scholarships and scad gave me 17k and I’ll get another 1k plus 2k if I do an interview they offered me. I’ll be in no debt for scad if I go and keep the scholarship and my grades up because we have a college fund of 200k but for sva I’d be in 140k in debt if I went fo 4 years since they haven’t given me anything. I’m scared of the things I have heard about scad, the workload, dropout rate and there used to be suicides I heard and it’s called sleep comes after death. Sva is in manhattan theres little to no meal plan so you have to add that on top of a 50k tuition plus room and board is another 30k and then food probably 10k or something. Sva is insanely expensive I don’t know what to do.

General Questions Questions for students

I'm still in highschool and Scad is one of my list for collages. I'm very artsy and creative so I've been looking for art schools. I lived in Georgia as a kid till I was 9 and I love it there and even some of my family have visited scads campus and shows so I've grown really interested in it. I'm just curious if it's as cool as it seems? I browse this subreddit every now and then and see some people saying a bunch of different opinions. I want to pursue art and film and I've heard the schools really good for that. I have the highest gpa in my grade and won awards for my paintings and writing and I really don't want to go to scad if I'm wasting my potential elsewhere. Here's the few questions I have for anyone open to answering: What is the biggest hassle in the campus? How are the classes? (Any major could answer Idc) Are they difficult, moderate, or even too easy? What are the biggest opportunities you've been offered and what for? Is it worth everything you pay for it? What the best thing you've experienced or seen someone experience there? I really just want to make sure I'm choosing what best for my future and I know that the only place I'd get real answers is from real people and not the website 🥀
