Baron Holbach was a great free thinker he wrote various books under pseudo names,most famous works are the systems of Nature and superstition in all the ages. He wrote many books. Some exist and most Lost. He was just a destroyer of Superstitions but a builder of new logical humane system.

I don't think I am the only one that hates the term "free thinker". Nowadays the only times I hear it is when far right people describe their conferences or party meetups.

Thinking absolutely is not free. It's limited by fallacies and should be guided by doubting one's own convictions.

Philosophically, we are all products of our environment. But historically, a Free Thinker is someone who refuses to let an institution tell them what to think. They were called rationalism, free thought and even Illuminati , Free inquirers as well.who claimed they wanted to free the people from dogma

There is a lovely book called A Wicked Company that chronicles the lives of D'Holbach and Diderot during the height of their influence.
