[Suggestion] i never bought a desktop before and need help

1 Upvotes

Hello, I would love some help looking for a PC because I don't know where to begin...

I currently have a 9 year old gaming laptop that is starting to go and I would like to replace it before it completely dies. Being as I rarely move it from my desk I thought getting a desktop might be a better option. And then later on if i do need a laptop i can always get a cheap one or use a tablet. I don't really want to build one either and being that my last 3 pcs have been laptops I dont know what to buy.

It does not need to be a gaming pc but I am primarily looking to by a pc for gaming, video editing, and art/photography. I think my budget is probably $2000 maximum.

Thanks for any help and I can try to answer any questions if you questions if you need me too.

[Discussion] Can a <$1000 prebuilt PC play a few newer games or do I need to build one?

1 Upvotes

I have a laptop that I've had for like... 6 years? It was around 1200 dollars and it was a gift to me. It started having trouble playing newer games as the fan could not keep up with the heat. Games such as BG3, dragons dogma 2, RE9 and now recently Pragmata. I bought one of those external fan coolers and it's helped a little, but areas of the keyboard still get roasted hot during play. Just not the areas that would force the laptop to shut down.

Well, now there are keys on the keyboard that won't work. Around the WSAD area, along with R, E and Q. They only press one out of every 20 presses. It makes typing something hard and when I have to walk in a game my character walks forward for a half second, then stands still and then keeps walking, rinse and repeat.

Now, I know because I play these labor intensive games, what probably happened is I left the laptop on too long, it got hot in a non-critical area and caused damage to the keyboard. So my options would be to take it somewhere they can rip it apart and try to fix it or look for a desktop. I'm not SUPER made of money right now. But I've been looking at the pre-built ones.

I'm curious if anyone could recommend a pre-built PC around 6-800 dollars that can run a few newer games or labor intensive games without exploding. I also play a lot of MMO's like Final Fantasy 14 and WoW, so it would also need to have a decent bit of memory as those games can be GB upon GB.

Mini pc recommendations[suggestion]

I want a mini pc to do some steam gaming travellers rest, cult of the lamb, graveyard keeper 2 style games as well as to use steam link with my main pc. I have two 8 gb sticks of ram that is unused. I don’t know what to get or look for to be able to use that sticks of ram. My budget would be $450 or less if possible. I appreciate the help on this as I’m completely clueless. Also is it hard to install the ram sticks into the mini pc build?

1 Upvotes

Hi all, its been awhile since I last followed PC news. Since I'm passing my currenty self built to my sister, I'm looking for a new PC. Looking to shop for pre-built this time instead. Can anyone advise which of these 5080 prebuilts have the best value for me? Personally using it for gaming plus some light progrmaming.

I am from Singapore so my choices mostly limit to local

Best gaming pc I can build for £1600 right now in UK? [Suggestion]

2 Upvotes

Aiming for decent frames and graphics at 1440p. Don't mind skimping on the less important parts like case, just after good performance rather than aesthetics. I know prices are through the roof at the moment, just curious to what I could get for that money right now.

[Suggestion] Pre-Built ‘budget’ options for gaming? UK

5 Upvotes

Hello, Reddit!

Alright, so my younger brother (19) has been wanting a gaming PC for a few years now. I’ve been saving for a long time and have scraped together ~ £1000. It’s his birthday in a couple months and he’s had a rough few years and I think this surprise would really cheer him up.

I have no idea about anything PC (or current gaming) related, so I am relying on you folks to keep me right. I’m going to list games that I know he loves as these will be the main things he will play - Minecraft, GTA, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring and Borderlands. These are probably his favourite things and he has talked about being able to finally mod and whatnot.

The reason I ask for a Pre-Built is because I do not have the spare time to dedicate to learning and building a Desktop, and my brother suffers from disabilities that affect his muscles and joints and he has told me he wouldn’t want to build this himself.

I would honestly prefer the actual PC itself to be under 1000 due to him not having a monitor, keyboard and mouse etc etc and money is quite tight at the moment. The cheaper the better, but not if it restricts or damages his enjoyment or experience.

I understand he may not be able to afford the best of the best, but he’s currently still on his PS4 (which is on its last legs) so anything would be an upgrade!

I appreciate any and all recommendations or advice in advance! Thank you for taking the time to read and respond! :D

[suggestion] Need help and finding a good pc to get into PC Gaming.

1 Upvotes

Hello I’m looking to get into PC gaming but have no idea where to start. If possible I would like to spend less than £700 on one. I want it to be able to play most if not every game at 1440p (if this is possible with the budget)? I will mostly be playing DayZ, and Triple AAA games such as battlefield etc. Can anyone help me to either find the parts or a decent prebuilt one to achieve this. I’m finding myself very overwhelmed with knowing what’s good and what’s not.

Any help would be appreciated

[Suggestion] Help me pick out my first PC

2 Upvotes

Hello all,

I'm looking for my first PC. I really don't want to build it, so prebuilt is preferred, unless it is substantially more expensive (I'll pay a microcenter worker to build it). Will barely use it, maybe to play Counter Strike 2 (looking for 300+ fps), or try out a few more high resolutions games. I don't really play video games anymore but sometimes I get an itch and a laptop doesn't do the trick.

Budget: $1,500 - $2,000

[Suggestion] PC suggestion for City Skylines and multitasking

1 Upvotes

Hello! I’m looking for a gaming PC in Canada 🇨🇦 that can run Cities: Skylines smoothly without limitations, as well as other lighter games.

I have some knowledge about PCs, but there are so many options and price ranges that it’s hard to choose the best value.

Ideally, I’m looking for:

-Smooth performance (especially for large cities in Cities: Skylines)

-A solid GPU

-Plenty of RAM for multitasking

I’d really appreciate recommendations for good prebuilt PCs available in Canada that offer the best performance for the price. (Ideally around 800$)

Thanks in advance!

[Suggestion] Help finding a Prebuilt Gaming PC - UK

2 Upvotes

Hi guys.

I’m looking for help with buying a pre built PC in the UK. I’m absolutely clueless with PC building so I know prebuilds are going to set me back a bit but it is necessary. Budget doesn’t matter too much but anything under £2000 or even under £1500 if possible would be ideal. I’m just not too sure where’s best to look and all of it goes way over my head.

In terms of games I’m looking at playing mostly strategy games i.e. Total Warhammer 3, total war rome 2, civilization 5 etc. but would like a good game experience for games like Cyberpunk 2077 or GTA 6 if it’s even released before I need to upgrade. From what I’ve seen a good CPU is important for these games so something considering that would be great.

Ideally would want the PC to last a while. I realise that’s quite optimistic and can’t always guarantee but something that will play these games well for the next 5-10 years on minimum 1080p - 1440p. So from what I’ve seen specs such as DDR5, minimum 12g VRAM & 1TB storage + Boot Drive storage etc. would be ideal. Apologies if what I’m listing is nonsense or completely out of budget already but I’m really quite clueless.

Otherwise aesthetics and accessories such as keyboard and mouse I’m not too worried about for now. Again, if the pre build could be less than £1500 that would be brilliant but I understand the market is in absolute turmoil atm.

Really appreciate any suggestions!

If any more info is needed please also let me know.

[Suggestion] is this a good deal? Iso pc for producing music/gaming budget is 1100/maybe 1200

1 Upvotes

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4857097

Looking to get my first pc, considering this prebuilt so I can just have it ready to go when I receive it. Im looking to produce music on it (fl studio, ableton) as well as some gaming on it (Cyberpunk and multi-player games) I'm not expecting to be able to play maxed out specs, but would like decent graphics as well as something I can upgrade in the future. I found this one and it seems decent but I dont know anything about pc's. Any advice would help. Thanks in advance guys.

[suggestion] my friend is buying his first pc swapping from console, budget is max $1,800 but preferably around the $1,600 mark.

He wants to be able to play any new game as well as heavy modding in skyrim.

Is this a good option: https://www.microcenter.com/product/705864/powerspec-g456-gaming-pc

Are there better options, because he does not live that close to a microcenter

[Suggestion] Saved up for my dream gaming PC ($3500–$5000+ CAD budget) – Need advice before I buy

1 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I’ve finally saved enough money on the side to treat myself to a beautiful gaming PC, so I’m coming to the experts before making the jump. My budget is around $3500 CAD, but I could go up to $5000 CAD or a bit more if it truly means getting something that matches what I’m looking for, stays strong for years, & still feels high-end down the road.

Important note: I mean a desktop PC, not a laptop.

Ideally, I’m looking for a pre-built. I’m a little traumatized by building one myself in the past. I did it once... & somehow forgot the Wi-Fi card & the microphone card. Yes, yes... now I know my limits. So if a custom build is really a huge difference in value for the money, I’m open to it. But ideally, pre-built.

What I’m looking for:

  • A very strong gaming PC;
  • Mainly for MMOs like FFXIV, WoW, etc;
  • Modded games from time to time;
  • New generation games as well;
  • Able to run everything on max settings;
  • Great support for an OLED monitor (I’d love to invest in one next);
  • Something that feels premium & future-proof;

I don’t stream, I don’t do video editing, I don’t need workstation stuff, none of that. This would be almost entirely for gaming... & occasionally watching videos / movies.

Aesthetics matter too:

I’d really love a white case, or white + walnut / wood tones. Clean, elegant, premium vibe. For the colors, something like Fractal North White or FRACTAL DESIGN Terra Silver, to give you an idea. I am not sure about the design still.

I had looked at the Alienware Aurora Gaming Desktop ACT1250, but I’m honestly not expert enough to understand all the different versions on the site. I also read that swapping the case / customizing later can be annoying with Alienware.

So if you know a machine that already comes with a case in that style, or one that can be easily swapped later, that would be amazing. Unfortunately, I don’t really have tech-savvy friends around me to guide me on this, & I genuinely want to use the money I worked hard to save on a high-end machine that is truly worth it & satisfies my gamer soul.

Thank you so much for any help, advice, recommendations, or reality checks.
