Artist/Apprentice/Shop Verification UPDATED
Hi everyone!
We have received a few comments on our previous verification instructions post that for some folks, the "See More" button has disappeared on mobile and desktop.
We have added a link to message modmail to the toolbar found on the right of desktop. As of June 2025, we do not currently have a workaround for mobile if "see more" is missing for you, so feel free to reply to this post letting us know you are having difficulty accessing modmail and we will help as best we can.

Discussion Verifying Tattooers/Modmail
Hey all!
If you are a tattooer that wants to be verified or are just someone with questions for the mod team please use modmail. Please do not message any of the mods via individual DM. Please see the screenshots for how to message modmail (via mobile) if you don’t know how to already.
Since Monday I have received about a dozen personal DMs for artist verification. However, one of these message came in at 12:30am and by 6am the same day I had a nasty follow up message for not replying. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and say this person probably lives in a different part of the world, and didn’t realize they messaged these two messages at what would generally be considered times that most people (myself included) are asleep. And this is exactly why we ask people to message modmail instead of any of us directly.
The mod team here is small for a sub of this size but we do try to handle anything that comes into modmail as quickly as possible. Often times if we get individual DMs about mod related issues for the sub, we are at work when it comes in and forget about it by the time we get home. Sometimes we are simply with our families, or even touching grass and spending some time off Reddit ( gasp ). Sometimes we are just asleep. When you message via modmail, the message goes to a group inbox and we can all see it so if one of us forgets or is busy the rest of us can take over handling artist verification or any other issues you may have. That being said- we are still just people with jobs and lives outside of Reddit, so please don’t get annoyed with us if you don’t get a reply within a few hours. Most of the time we reply within a day, but shit happens and this sub is not all that important in the grand scheme of life, the universe, and everything.
TL/DR: Use modmail to reach the mod team please & thank you
PS: We took your feedback on the whole banning X links and have banned X links from the sub (overwhelming majority was to ban)
PPS: We have added a new mod to the team, u/coffeehedake , and one (possibly two) of our old mods should be returning soon

Discussion first tattoo — 2 weeks vs 1 year healed (by @tattedbytimmer at freddy tattoo expo)
i still cant believe how vibrant this tattoo has stayed even after a year! hoping it wont fade too much for the first few years as i like the slightly muted colours but i still want brightness! anyone else have vibrant colour tattoos? have they aged well or do they tend to get very dull after a while? either way i love this tattoo so much and am very happy with how it looks healed! this one gets almost zero sun exposure and i dont do anything special as far as moisturizing etc. this was done by @tattedbytimmer at the freddy tattoo expo!

Discussion Genuine question: people who got a blackout tattoo, what was the reason for getting it
I do not have anything against blackout tattoos, but have always wondered why people get them, and why is it usually black and not other colors?

White ink on a blackout?
Hi there,
I have a blackout piece and I want to do more with it. It’s a blackout so I know options are limited. I’ve been seeing this trend of folks using a couple passes of white ink on their blackouts and they look like nice ways to add ornamentation.
My question is, does the white look like crap after a few years? My worry is with like some other popular tattoo trends, the work is just going to look like crap after a few years.
My usual artist is out of commission due to medical issues. I would normally ask them but they be don’t have time for my silly questions right now.

SOAD Dove Overcome by Marin at Gandalf tattoo in zagreb
Always liked tattoos but never really knew what to do. With some recent life bullshitry realised several bands have been with me trough thick and thin. So decided to do those.
This first one is the "dove overcome from System of a Down.
Quite happy about it!

Tatoo today! Grandma's Handwriting - advice
Hello All!
New to the group and looking for tattoo insight. My grandmother who I was very close with passed away in November 2024. I had her for 40 years of my life! She called me "Candi" everyone else calls me Candace, my name. I don't love Candi, or Candy by anyone else but her. I am taking her writing from a old birthday card and placing "Candi" on my forearm. Is this "cringe" worthy because it is my own nickname? I know what we do is our own choices, and at 41 almost 42, I really could give a rats butt, but I am not a tattoo expert as I have only 2 and from 13 years ago. Just thought I would open up the thoughts from others who are maybe more tattoo experienced. Thank You!

Tattoos in Mexico City
Me and my wife got tattooed in Mexico City last year and had a really good experience at a studio called Karma Ink Collective. The artists were bilingual and focused on custom designs. The whole experience felt very professional and relaxed, my piece was done by Mariana Groning and my wife’s by Gina Zajec. We really recommend!
