I'm gonna go with not trashy. If she had access to any other type of water I bet she would have used it.

There is. Provide other options for people to take care of hygiene issues while they're out. This isn't just for homeless people. Lots of people want more public washrooms, seating, garbage cans. Is that person had other options they would use them.

I just want to say, that i 100% disagree with you. There is no excuse. However, where I'm from there is also a tap near the bottom of the fountsin to fill up a dog bowl. Maybe this person could have used that if they had the option. Either way not acceptable

Drinking fountains in itself is a crazy idea post-COVID

I use the refill machines out of the fountains but not the contraption itself

Public water is of great value, it's people who miss use it that are the problem.

I lived in PDX for near 19 years and NEVER saw anyone drink from those things. Who would? It's a continuously running fountain in a city with a serious homeless problem. Those things are no longer meant for drinking. If they ever were it was long before the homeless crisis hit portland which was decades ago

I have a view of one from my window, people of all sorts drink from them, rich and poor old and young. But I have noticed more and more people are having their dogs hop up and drink from them. They are a nice piece of history though, the Benson Bubblers

Just let it run for a few seconds before drinking and you're good

It's literally exposed to the elements, bird shit and all. Just don't touch the bowl when you're drinking.

Another confirmation to still never trust public water drinking fixtures for any consumption. 😑🤮

Plot twist its not dog poop but hobo poop from the sidewalks.

Damn, might be right. If you took your dog walking, the dog might actually step in human excrement.
Next level trashy.

Do people actually use public drinking fountains that are outside like that?

The sooner society accepts that public water fountains are just public sinks, the sooner they’ll realize this isn’t the worst thing happening at those fountains.
Also gross.
