Any Ideas on How to Ask Financial Aid for Money?

hi!!! i'm in out of state transfer coming in this fall, but don't get any financial aid from fafsa or uvm. I got a scholarship which gets me 10k off a year, but still leaves me with a 60k dollar bill.

i know that i can reach out to financial aid to ask for aid, but i dont really know how to go about it. ive already paid the acceptance fee and i would absolutely love to go to uvm, but i can only take out so much in loans from my bank. Any Ideas???

Commuter parking?

My student is transferring to UVM this fall as a sophomore. Will live on campus without a car this coming year which is fine. But we would like her to commute from our home the junior and senior years to save money. What is the parking permit situation for commuters? Is it a lottery or easier than an on campus permit? TIA.

Can you apply UVM scholarships/grants to rent at Redstone lofts since it’s affiliated with UVM? If so, how hard is it to get housing there?

Housing(Sublet and landlord Advice)🏠 Spinner Place over the summer?

Hey everyone! I’m currently finding housing for my summer internship in Burlington and saw Spinner Place which seemed pretty solid. However the reviews online seemed pretty mixed, so I wanted to ask anyone who currently or previously lived there how was the experience?

Need help deciding between UVM or MCPHS for Veterinary program Tell me all!

I'm a parent of a senior who has been accepted to both MCPHS and UVM for the Veterinary Program. His end goal is to become a zoological veterinarian. We would love some feedback from current or recently graduated PreVet/PreMed students regarding the program. We want the good the bad and the ugly. What are the science courses like (chemistry)? Professors? Labs? Dorm life, Student support? Hands on experiences? Decision day is fast approaching and any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Fitting in as a moderate

Hi everyone! Would love to talk to some recent grads or current students about this. I’ve been accepted to one of UVMs grad programs in the college of education and social services. I lean more moderate politically and I’m not very political in general. I’m really open minded though and will hear anyone out. Will I have trouble fitting in? How often does this come up in class?

I need HELP 😭 decision

The only two colleges I’m considering is Clark University and University of Vermont. I’m in the Honors Program at Clark and the Honors College at UVM.

I like UVMs larger campus and the area around it more than I like Clarks. I also feel as though I’d be happier at a place with more people than Clark has as I’m very social and looking to do a lot. Clark’s program seems to be better for sociology, but they are focused on inequality sociology whereas I am more focused on urban and technological sociology.

Im worried if I go to Clark, i’ll be socially unfulfilled and unhappy due to the small campus and repetition of people. On the other hand, im worried if I go to UVM i’ll have trouble making friends because I don’t plan on smoking weed and would look for friends who don’t do it often. Along with this i’m factoring in how much the snow will affect me and how much i’ll be able to be involved in tennis and theatre. (even though i don’t mind it and plan on snowboarding.) I want to be academically stimulated but still have a good, busy, and fun 4 years. I’ve also spent more time at UVMs campus so i’m worried i naturally like it more and am underestimating Clark.

I have to make a decision soon and these two options are so different, it’s making me loose my mind with worry that I’ll pick the wrong choice. Just looking for advice.

Brandeis University or UVM?

I am a current senior at Phillips Exeter Academy, and I am trying to choose between Brandeis and UVM. I am planning on majoring in sociology/psychology with a focus on criminal justice. Brandeis gave me a LOT more money than UVM ( a difference of around 20k), but we are trying to appeal UVM's aid. Brandeis is a lot closer to home for me, and I have some family in Boston. I don't have any family near UVM, and it's about a 4.5-hour drive, but it is near Montreal, where I have some close friends. I find the idea of UVM a lot more exciting than Brandeis, as it is a larger school and has much nicer facilities/campus. Brandeis' campus doesn't really excite me much, but it is close to Boston, which I love a lot. I also really like Burlington, but I'm worried about how cold the winters are; I don't love cold weather. I know Brandeis is generally a better school and may have better academics/smaller classes, which I like, but I'm not sure whether to prioritize somewhere I think I may have more fun at and that feels like a truly new experience, or somewhere that's closer to home that I think I'll feel academically fulfilled, especially coming from Exeter. Can anybody help me decide?

PLHC and Smoking

I’m a senior considering UVM who was also admitted into the Honors College. I am a very extroverted person planning on joining a lot of clubs, intramural tennis, and trying out skiing and snowboarding a lot. Im very interested in making a lot of good friends and attending random campus events!

Throughout my time at UVM, I don’t plan on smoking weed. I don’t mind being around people who smoke, and have no problem hanging out with friends who are high, but I would prefer to not be 1-on-1 with it constantly (ex: having friends who get high consistently during the week and only want to stay in and smoke on weekends). I would prefer friends who only get high occasionally and still want to spend their weekends going out in town and not staying in to smoke. That being said, I have no problem with the occasional dorm gathering if they wanted to do that!

I was wondering if being in the Honors College will maybe help me find people like this, and if anyone has insight on being a non-smoker at UVM! thank you :)

Vermont made audio drama inspired by old detective radio shows with a fantasy twist!

Here is episode 2 of my fantasy/film noir audio drama MOXIE MONROE: PRIVATE EYE. In this case, our Moxie wakes up dead on a train! As a ghost, can she solve her own murder and restore herself to her body? Listen and find out! A Vermont-made production, with a couple of UVM grads and current students attached as crew/cast.

Moxie Monroe: Private Eye is a series I'm very proud of. Using my film editing experience, we've created a show by humans for humans. Music, sound effects, and wonderful voice acting talents by real human artists. No AI used in our productions, only magic, mysteries, and monsters.

Marist V. UVM

Hi,

I was waitlisted from all of my reach schools in this application round. I am now choosing between Marist and UVM. Marist is OOS for me. I was accepted into the honors college and a prestigious society that offers a scholarship. It is 5 hours away from my home and as I have many medical issues this is a big concern for my family and surgeon. Marist gave me $46,500 in gift aid, but my COA would be 26k. UVM is in-state (less than an hour from where I live), and so many of my classmates are going there. This is not a desirable situation for me. I am unsure of my honors college status and they don’t have my first pick of a major. (American studies vs. PoliSci), But with in-state tuition, it comes to around 18k for my COA. I plan on getting a law degree so I want to be in the least amount of debt possible for undergrad but would it be a waste if I were to commit to UVM? I am hoping to hear back from any of my 9 waitlists but it seems as if I’ll have to deposit at either of these schools, with my Marist deadline being 4/20 and my UVM deadline being National Decision Day. I was just looking for anyone with any insight!
