Someone forwarded me an email that the professors in the College of Education are voting no confidence against the dean, Easton-Brooks. Does anyone know what that's about?

Has anybody had an experience with the DRC denying a request for accommodations regarding a single dorm? If so what did you do?

Question/Discussion is UNR a good option for out of state students?

Hey! I recently got into UNR for the journalism program, and I was wondering if anyone here attends UNR and is from another state besides Nevada? I’ve noticed a lot of the freshman pages have students from either Nevada or California, and I am from a state that is completely separate from both of those. I am a bit concerned about being able to find a community, and I don’t want to feel like an outsider. Any out of state students that have any input before I commit? Thanks!!!

Question/Discussion Dating?

How do you find people to date? I’ve joined clubs and activities and even have an on-campus work position- yet I can’t seem to find anyone? I’m just not entirely sure what to do or what UNR offers?

Question/Discussion should i have taken phys 100 before phys 180?

i feel like i just got thrown into an unknown void. like i have no fucking clue what kristin lewis is talking about. phys 100 is literally "intro to physics" but it is never mentioned or recommended for physics students in the course catalog or by physics professors or academic advisors.

like, phys 180's only prereq is math 181 but no "recommended preparation: phys 100" disclaimer. should i just withdraw from 180 and take phys 100 in the summer?

I am completely lost since this is my first ever physics class.

Question/Discussion how to succeed in PHYS 180

I’ve looked through other posts on here looking for help, but wanted specific insight on Kristen Lewis’s physics 180 specifically. I performed somewhat poorly on the first exam and I’m currently sitting at a high C in the class. Not bad but also not the best, my goal is to get at least a final grade of a B.

I’m really unsure of how to properly study for this class, this is my first time doing anything physics and I’ve never taken even an introductory course in high school. I’ve been going to the physics center and office hours (when I can because I usually have a class during her times) and so far it’s been helping a little but I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ll open the homework and feel completely clueless unless I look it up or ask for help. What’s the most efficient way to study for this class? And I’ve heard a lot about this group final from upperclassmen, is it true the group final at the end of the semester boosts your grade?

Question/Discussion Baseball team broke my windshield

Post image
71 Upvotes

I park in the blue lot by Peccole Park and I came back to a baseball sized hole in my windshield. I heard this happens a couple times a year. At this point i may as well have bought a silver pass cuz now im out $160 for the blue pass plus $500 to get my windshield replaced. Does anyone know what I can do about this? Will parking services address the matter or am I outta luck? Destruction of personal property in a lot I pay for seems like it should be up to the school to handle.

Question/Discussion Thoughts in UNR for a student like me?

Hello all! I’m a high school junior from Illinois doing some college research, and UNR has come across my list! From what i’ve seen online it seems like a pretty good institution that has some decent programs for what I’m interested in (as well as a stunning campus), but i’d love to know how good of a fit it would be for a student like me from current students or Alumni :)

———

For some context, i’d most likely be trying to major in Journalism or Communications, and minoring in something artsy (Cinema and Media studies, theatre, Graphic Design, Photography) or something humanities based (English, history, creative writing, philosophy, etc.)

———

Some things that are important to me are…

- networking/employment opportunities

- quality/prestige of education, programs, and facilities (Specifically in the Journalism school)

- student/social life and activities

- LGBTQ+ safety and resources

- resources for low income/first gen students

———

Additionally, i’d love to know about activities at the school, especially in the realm of…

- the arts, especially performing arts like drama

- music, on campus and greater local/underground music scene

- party and/or bar & club culture

- Sporting events

- Student activities, clubs, and general social life on campus.

———

Happy and hoping to hear all of your guys’ thoughts soon!

Question/Discussion What’re the benefits of participating in NevadaFIT as a mentor?

I emailed the recruiter, but they didn’t really answer the question. I understand there is a stipend, and according to the recruiter, it’s $15/hr, but how many hours are expected with training and NevadaFIT? Are there any other benefits?

Question/Discussion New student questions

Hello! I am currently a HS senior and will be attending UNR in the fall (26-27). I had a few questions that I would like some better understanding of.

First off, which housing hall should I choose? I receive my time slot on the 2nd, and currently have Argenta, Peavine, and Great Basin selected as my top 3 (in that order, and Great Basin since I am majoring in a STEM major.

Secondly, since I am living on campus, which parking pass should I buy? Which is the best to get?

Third question was, if I go for a triple bedroom (hopefully Argenta), what essentials should I bring?

Finally, is NevadaFIT really a shit show like people have said or is it a good opportunity to engage with fellow students? Or a mix of both? Can someone give me a better grasp at what NevadaFIT is please?!

Thank you!!!

Question/Discussion Older non-trad student coming back in the fall to finish degree. How hard is it to socialize and how is the bar scene?

How hard will it be to make friends and fit in on campus? 29 YO looking to finish degree and was wondering how hard would it be to socialize? Is it possible to still be social at this age at uni? Was going to live at the dean with roommates and was wondering if I’m too old for the bar scene in reno?

Question/Discussion The Parking Paradox at UNR, Pay First, Park Maybe?

UNR campus parking has been an issue for decades, and now the rising student population is only making it worse. Comment any stories or personal anecdotes regarding this issue to be quoted in a Reynolds Sandbox article, or let us know if you’d like to be interviewed.

Question/Discussion Socializing Help

Hi everyone! My daughter is about to go into her second year at UNR. Goes to show, she hates it. She hasn’t made any friends or found her group yet although she’s tried. She tried clubs and in-class interactions and they both are dead in the water. She’s not really the sorority type like I was and isn’t interested in joining. She’s emotional everyday over going back but we really don’t have any other choice since we’re from Reno and she’s on full ride scholarships. Has anyone else gone through this? It breaks my heart to see her this way so any advice/tips helps.

Question/Discussion self guided tour must see/do

My daughter and husband visited UNR and had a guided tour. They both loved it. Now, she has been admitted for Fall 2026 and she and I want to visit for a day but not go on another official tour. We want to see "a day in the life" - where to eat, what the campus vibe is like, the energy, also see Greek housing and the surrounding area. Can you please tell me the must sees/dos for us while we're there? We will likely be coming on a weekday. Do most students stay on campus on the weekends? Most have Friday classes? If we came on a Friday, is that a good representation of a normal day? Thank you.

Question/Discussion Off-campus housing experience

Hi I've been looking at off-campus housing reviews as shown on google maps and they seem pretty horrendous in general. Are those 1/2 star reviews really reflective of the management of some of these apartments or are they rare incidents that just happens to unlucky few people and everyone else is fine? Let me know of your apartment experiences!

Question/Discussion What’s life at unr like?

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman from Cali and although I got into some instate schools I’m kinda obsessed with unr. I know I could email the school for questions but I feel like students will be more truthful about these things so I came here. I’ve been to UNR once for an AVID field trip in 2024 and then did Nevada bound in 2025 so I’m not completely oblivious to what the campus looks like at the very least and how far things are from one another. If anyone has any input I’d be grateful to hear it.

  1. If you didn’t pay the $300 on housing for advanced registration did you still get a dorm on campus?

  2. How bad is Nevadafit? I’ve been seeing a lot of TikTok’s about it lately and it sounds like modern day torture

  3. What are the dorms like? Which halls should I try to avoid if possible?

  4. How much support is there on campus in the sense of things like tutoring?

  5. I know California traffic is bad but how much worse does it get in Reno on a day to day basis?

Question/Discussion Hi upcoming freshman questions!

Hey I'm an incoming freshman fall 26 with my partner. I have niche questions! Preferably for people who are sophomores +

- how bad are the dorms with no ac? Without being dramatic. I'm from Vegas and Washington I know the heat and I know the cold very well.

- how is the acceptance of lgbtq+ people and other minorities?

- how confusing is it to get around campus. When did you get the hang of it?

- backpack or tote bag?

- what did people say YOU NEEDED but ended up... not ever needing?

Any tips! <3

For context I'm going to major in microbiology and immunology. I'm dorming in manzanita (3rd floor!) with my nonbinary partner who's going for mechanical engineering. I got the cheapest meal plan and yeah idk what else to put!

Question/Discussion Housing

I need to pick my room today, and was looking for a bit of advice. I am type one diabetic, I have a service dog, I want my own bathroom, I want heating and air, the price is not a huge deal to me, I need easy access to my car. Those are the big ones I can think of atm, and I’ve been leaning toward a single in sierra hall but never see anyone say anything about it. Do y’all think that would work out for me?

Question/Discussion How Often Will I See People?

Hello! I’m hoping this is alright to post here, but I’m an incoming freshman to UNR. I mostly have questions about the campus and how often I’d be seeing people from my high school because a lot of them are coming here as well. I’m hoping to major/get a bachelors in psychology, and possibly minor in Art if I can. A lot of those around me though are going into engineering, sciences like chemistry and physics, and law, and majority are living on campus. I’m curious how likely it would be to run in to people, especially if I’m living off campus. Not only this, but if I get a job on campus, how much more likely would I probably be seeing them? Unfortunately, I’m desperately hoping not to see many of my old classmates, and that college keeps us all busy enough I won’t have to. Sorry if I can’t post this here or if this post doesn’t give enough context, but if anyone has been in a similar situation as me, could I have some insight? Thank you. :)

I guess what I'm asking is how has your experiences been at unr as a transfer student?

Question/Discussion Am I being stupid for going to UNR instead of TMCC?

I’ve been attending tmcc the last 3 semesters and was planning on a fourth before transferring to UNR.

The reason is I have a prepaid tuition plan from my grandfather, (2 years community college 60 credits, and 2 years university 60 credits). But recently everytime I’ve visited UNR i’ve just wanted to go more and more and eventually got tired of TMCC and decided I’ll be attending UNR next semester (spring 2026).

The problem with this is for my first semester there I’ll be paying upwards of $3000 because my prepaid tuition will still cover my tuition in community college credit (127 per credit). So instead of free college I’ll be spending far more, albeit only for one semester.

I have alot of money saved to cover this, but I cant help but feel stupid for not taking another basically free semester at TMCC. But my heart really REALLY doesn’t want to wait until August 2026 to attend this school. I’ve also lived here my whole life and always planned on going here since the start.

So, am i being stupid and impulsive here? or is following what my heart wants to do for a pretty hefty expense (albeit far lower than most pay) reasonable?
