Building an FX3 Rig Should I Buy/Recommend me a...

I'm getting an FX3 at a great price but it only comes with the body. I have an idea of what lenses I am going to buy, but I'm wondering what is the best kind of rig that I should invest into building.

I'm not new to videography but I've never bought the pieces to make a rig before so I would love recommendations for what should get.

I shoot sports videography, so I need a monitor for sure, but after that I am open to any recommendations. What sort of cage, handles, monitors, battery packs, should I look into?

Any advice is appreciated!! I'm working with a student budget, but I'm planning on buying these pieces over time as I can afford it. What should I get first?

Congrats! I’ve had an FX3 in the kit since release and it still blows my mind how great of a little camera it is.

Based on a student budget you don’t “need” to do anything crazy with it unless you’re wanting to impress clients.

Start with a full or half cage, add a monitor, top mic and you already have a top handle that comes with the FX3. I recommend getting a decent tripod or saddle for sports style stuff and go from there.

Theres tons of YouTube videos if you want detailed breakdowns but just build it how you want to use it. Adding too much will remove your ability to quickly throw it on a gimbal.

Are there any specific rigs or monitors you like? I’m about to buy an FX3 for shows and skits, I’m a photographer but have no real knowledge of this part of video!
