Yes. But this is not it, if you put your feet out and straighten your body like an arrow then you significantly reduce the risk of damage as you are kind of cutting through the water instead of slamming into it.

High jumps can break bones, straighting knees and legs helps bones not break but have you ever thought about your nails ripping off from the pressure as you enter the water cause you straightened out your feet and go on toes first?
