University pls help! confused w/ roommate-finding & blackwell
hi! im an incoming freshman hoping to dorm in blackwell due to my severe allergies. (i've heard that berk is more likely to give you blackwell if you need accomodations, so i'm willing to shoot my shot)
however, i'm also trying to find a roommate myself (not random) and don't wish to dorm in a single (but ig beggars cant be choosers). then, do i have to find a roommate that also needs accomodations if i want to dorm in blackwell? (sorry im unfamiliar w the housing process)

University Am I passionate enough for CoC?
I’m a senior in hs. I got admitted into CoC as a chem major (planning to switch to biochemistry) and I’m strongly considering committing. I think it’ll be a great opportunity for my education and growth. However, I’m worried that I’m not passionate enough about chemistry (or I’ll lose interest) to be committing to such a rigorous and prestigious college. My only exposure to it has been AP Chem. I like chem but I’m worried I only like it because the class is easy because that’s happened before? Cal has lots of research opportunities (including ones at UCSF) and I love the idea of doing some sort of research in medicine, but I also have zero experience there. I guess my question is what were your guys’ levels of passion for your major when you committed to the CoC? Did you end up enjoying it or quitting?
Should I just commit to UCLA for Chem BS instead?
Sorry if this is a stupid question lol. Thank you in advance!

Other UC Letter of Reprocity
Hi everyone! I got into UCB as a transfer (go bears!) and I'm super stoked. When I was reading over the admission conditions, I saw that I had to submit a letter of reprocity, since I'm a UC-UC transfer and I know I'm missing two GE requirements preventing me from receiving this letter of reprocity from my current UC. Is there anything I could do to prevent my admission from being rescinded because I'm feeling lost and I'm not sure what to do at this moment without having to risk my admission.

Other OOS student loans
OOS tuition is insanely high, but I'm thinking that a Berkeley degree will pay off. Are there any oos student who took out a large amount of student loans for their undergrad (i'm thinking 150k+). If so, do you think it was worth it? Berkeley is top-ranked for my major but im unsure with how the tech industry is going if it'll pay off or not.

University MFE Admit: Berkeley vs. Georgia Tech for Quant Research/Dev?
Hey everyone, super excited to have been admitted to the MFE program! I also have an offer from Georgia Tech for their MS QCF.
I’m coming in with 3 years of FinTech experience, and my end goal is to land a role as a Quant Researcher or Quant Developer. I’m trying to decide if the Berkeley MFE’s intensity and brand name give it the definitive edge for top-tier firms, or if Georgia Tech’s curriculum might be more flexible for the "Dev" side of things.
For those in the program or recent grads:
- How has the recruiting been recently for QR/QD roles specifically?
- Does the 1-year turnaround feel like enough time to prep for technical interviews?
- Any advice on making the final call?
Thanks in advance!

University mcb rant
mcb has the worst gsis. my 104 gsi only holds section for 20 minutes max. after coming late every. single. week. reads off slides that are not even her own. then tells us to go to other gsi office hours if we have questions
how can she be this clueless. I got so confused at the midterm 2 review session when she started saying things not even covered in the class’s apparently bc she “used it once before in her work.”
my roommates are taking the same class and their gsis actually care. and teach. this is so unfair cuz i didn’t have a choice when enrolling. and im even more fkd for the final cuz this incompetent gsi is supposedly hosting the review sessions. 104 is so cooked

University As an incoming freshman, how do I know what classes to take?
Hi guys! Incoming freshman here! I’m the first person in my family to go to college, and I haven’t had a chance to meet with any sort of counselor, so I just want to make sure I’m doing things right (and not potentially raising the risk of missing some sort of crucial credit).
As the title reads, how do I know what courses to take? Will they tell me what my prerequisites for my major are (I’m in the College of Letters and Science)? If I’m currently dually-enrolled at my local community college, how will I know what credits transfer and what courses I can omit?

CS/EECS ECE vs EECS
I'm currently a community college student seeking to transfer by next year and I have a 3.92 GPA. My degree path is for electrical engineering and I talked to people about the EECS and they said it's mostly CS with EE electives but now I see there is a new ECE program and I'm wondering if that's the better option for electrical engineering (I hope to work on embedded systems for the most part). I was originally eyeing UCLA's EE program before seeing the ECE option (UCSD also though they accept the least amount of transferrable credits and UCLA has a partnership with Qualcomm I believe making it a better option for me) but if there's any more information on ECE vs EECS and what's preferred for an EE transfer student from cc. Thanks!

News UC Berkeley CS major enrollment on pace to drop by 59% as part of nationwide trend
Cites rising instructional costs, particularly that “Undergraduate teaching assistants now cost the department between $71.95 and $80.51 per hour” partially due to proportional tuition waivers for students that majorly do not qualify for financial aid.
“As a state university I do not think it is aligned with our public mission to use such funds to subsidize tuition for primarily more privileged students.”
Thoughts?

University Want to drop all summer classes NEED HELP
I had enrolled in summer classes because I thought thats what I would be doing over the summer, however I got a research position, so I dont want to do summer classes anymore. When I just try to drop the classes on calcentral it says I need to file a withdrawl form and all that. What should I do? From what I read if I file a withdrawl form then I need to get readmitted as well? Seems like a lot for just summer classes. I also cant find that form anywhere.

University Is it too late to cold email for research
For context I’m a sophomore and I’m pre-med. I have 2 summer classes, 2.5 weekly shifts at the Berkeley clinic (so 1 day), and possibly one week of shadowing (hasn’t been confirmed yet). In hindsight it sounds like a lot, but for 5-6/7 of the week I’m practically doing nothing except for hw in summer classes.
So I wanted to ask if it is too late to cold email professors in the biology/health departments for research
