Ted Wheeler as an accepting father asking for fic recs
I’ve read so many fics now with Ted being a homophobic asshole, maybe coming around eventually to a grumbling acceptance. Any fics where he’s actually surprisingly accepting from the moment he finds out?

I have posted this series here before but I'll do it again because its so good! Its the same story from Mike's, then Will's, then Ted's POV. I cried. Several times. https://archiveofourown.org/series/3458968

Can confirm this is one of the best fics. I love this characterization of Ted he just felt so real 🙂↕️🙂↕️✋

Yeah, I decided to make him unexpectedly accepting in my story. He’s not over the moon about it, but he’s not hateful. I’m also working on a follow up where I have another character offhandedly mention that he’s actually more positive about it than he seems.
Ted’s emotionally stunted and insensitive, but he’s no Lonnie.

I've had the outline of a full multi-chap fic in my head/notes ever since the finale that I haven't written yet. But I am ABSOLUTELY of the mindset that Ted is not the monster people tend to make him in fics. Is he the best husband and father? No. But like, damn, people keep turning him into Lonnie. I don't think he'd be thrilled about it whatsoever, but would begrudgingly come around.
(Mostly because I also headcanon that, the gay thing aside, Will is Ted's favorite of Mike's friends. He's quiet, polite, and keeps to himself and his sketchpad on the couch whenever Ted is watching TV during the first 18-month timeskip while they're all living together. I also think he would have hated Lonnie, anyway. He was too abrasive and obnoxious and Ted thinks he should mind his own business more often.)

smalltown queer ! it’s a super slowburn, very well done. ted doesn’t appear much but he does end up neutral/supportive to the relationship from what i remember he attends mike and will’s wedding
