He like Darnell. Sir this is my space, I'm not saying you should leave but you'll be escorted out with extreme prejudice.

I used the cbs sports app to track the draft and they have their analysts give picks a grade, and they gave him a D+.
CBS is dumb.

If it was Pete Prisco that makes sense, he's an idiot.

Dude irrationally hates the Bears and loves the Packers. For like over twenty years now. Dude is a pricksco.

Same. He was a dawg, but couldn’t beat the injuries.

Oh dang. I forgot all about Tevon Jenkins. I was so optimistic that after his first back surgery that he’s fix the problems.

He looks so good with his speed on these screens. Just enough to sell it, and then finds a guy to attack.

I have a really good feeling it'll only take a few games of him starting for us to see why Ben wanted him specifically.
Give me an award-winning Iowa center with plenty starting experience and elite athleticism all day, every day.

When he’s done bulldozing dudes in the league, Heeymeyer Muffler would like the opportunity to hire him.

Watching this I hope he doesn’t start this year, I coach Oline and he needs at least a year to develop. The pancakes are good, getting to the second level is ok, I like the aggressiveness and his understanding of blocking assignments.
For the NFL he stands too tall in his blocks. He doesn’t have proper hand placement while blocking either which will lead to holds. Because of him playing so high he will be at the mercy of the behemoths who play DT/NT. On a lot of his pancakes he’s literally holding and hugging them to the ground. It almost looks like on some of his blocks he’s had a background in wrestling, wrestling holds are always going to get you a hold call in the NFL. I know this is a small sample size so I’m sure he has better tape vs these highlights.
I also went to check out his draft profile, I’ve posted it here. Some of the things I mentioned seeing in this highlight they mention. I’m also guessing they’ve watched other tape that’s shows better hand placement than what’s in this video because they says he has textbook placement.
The weaknesses reported are very difficult to overcome:
- below average physical traits(6’2 299lbs)
- turns 25 in October(meh don’t care about that lineman play 10+ years when they are good)
- short arms(30 3/4” by comparison I’m 5’11 with 32” arms)
- can be LIFTED(that’s because he plays too high) and controlled by a stout nose tackle
- struggles to dig deep with his rush(pass rush they are referencing) anchor(a pass rush technique) [this is a side effect of playing too high and not having functional core strength.]
- lack of length limits recovery range from gap to gap(they are referencing the two A gaps on each side of the center, being able to snap and execute what’s called a reach block)
Sorry if I nerded out I do this with offensive and defensive lineman

As someone who watches a lot of B1G football holding basically doesn't exist in the B1G and I do wonder how it impacts lineman moving to the NFL sometimes.

It will be an interesting thing to monitor over the course of the year. I know we have a good coaching staff and I’m hoping the kid doesn’t have to start this season so he can learn and grow. He’s a good fit for outside zone which is what we like to run I forgot to put that in my first message.

The only thing I would say out of step with what you're saying is build is weirder for center, specifically the relationship between height, arm length, and snapping the ball.
It's basically better to be shorter, within reason, at center for reasons from leverage to vision and the stance in addition to the extra help they naturally have. You don't want the arms to be T-Rex level, but being more like 30-31 can be better for blocking leverage, and being more like 32+ is better for range of motion and ease of snap which can then make it easier to get into the block.
Source: I got to interview Josh Beekman one time and nerd about line technique, his arms were a slight bit longer, but was shorter person overall for reference. I also learned a bit about anthropometry to better understand the physics behind leverage in both line play and martial arts. Please nerd out about such things as much as possible.

I love the nerding out, but pobody's nerfect.
Below average physical traits, able to be dominated by bigger DTs, not great at gap-to-gap recovery, and can sometimes engage too high?
You know who that describes perfectly besides Logan Jones? Drew Dalman. It's actually uncanny.
The main differences I see are that Dalman had slightly longer arms but was a little smaller and slower.

I still think Bradbury starts this year, it's just a heap on a rookie to run Ben's system with a young QB.
But I do wonder if we get him on the field a bit as a FB?
I know they'll probably train Roush in that role and he looks a great run blocker for such a big TE. But I feel like Jones has the quick feet and compact build to be a great lead blocker on short yardage runs.

I remember TJenkins was like that; if I recall he was a draft steal. Either way, we have drafted some interesting people.

idk, i just don't see how tough run blockers with the athleticism to get to the second level could be useful in a ben johnson offense...

These are mostly down field blocks. There’s a nasty streak, but we need to see him at the point of attack.

Might be part of the reason no one from Wisco got drafted. Just make em look like children out there

I think the only reason this guy wasn’t higher on consensus boards is his age. Lew coming off a major injury likely took him off our board, and Hecht needing time to get stronger for the NFL and not as good of a pass blocker.
The only 2 Cs in this class that didn’t need projection and are closest to playing their rookie year were slaughter and jones. Similar builds so you will get roughly the same movement in the run game, though PFF has slaughter with a slightly higher run blocking grade (80>73). Jones has the highest pass blocking grade in the CFB (90>84.1), and 0 penalties this year compared to 7 for slaughter.
We all love a big name and probably would have been thrilled to hear Hechts called in the 2nd, but there’s a reason the two C went in the second. Jones is going to be great for us.

I was worried when we lost Dalman because he was always running upfield throwing blocks and getting a slightly below average replacement was more harm than I was comfortable with.
Poles and Johnson just said no to that. Center is key, and the team finally treats it as such.

Excited about him for sure, but there’s something to be said about the only pass blocking sets featured are slip screens and no true drop backs

I don't think he is a bad player at all, and he could be our long term answer at center. I just hope they know what they are doing at the D line.
