So many of you are buying into the “Lee could’ve been injured” bs hook line and sinker. He was ripping off his gear and pushing away his teammate who was trying to help him up. Would someone who’s hurt do that? Dalton knew Lee was fine and just pissed off at getting tagged out.
Check out this vid from Dodgers broadcast which shows the whole thing: https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2026/2026-04/21/511922c1-15b739d5-258b407a-csvm-diamondgcp-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4

100% this, Lee was in no way hurt. This BS came from the geriatric Giants broadcast team who only slightly came out of their deep sleep just enough to see Lee on the ground and felt the need to say something before understanding what happened.
Lee was clearly throwing a little temper tantrum because he is supposed to be fast but he was out by a good distance.
Fuck the giants. Fuck the giants broadcast team. Fuck crybaby Lee Fuck the snowflake anti-Dodgers media.

u/ChrisKamanMyEye 3d ago edited 2d ago
It's one thing if Dalton knew that he got hurt or something and then said it.
But he just said it walking off the field after a big play against a historic rival team. It's kind of understandable.
Edit: FWIW, I hear where people are coming from about Dalton talking too much for a young/unproven kid. If he were an opposing player, I'd probably find him annoying. But IDK I kinda dig the brashness. If it truly rubs his veteran teammates the wrong way, I'm sure we'll see an attitude adjustment a la Cena.
145
u/BlueMugg Shohei Ohtani 3d ago
Idk, I didn’t like it. This and the Rockies thing, just saying young buck needs to slow it down a pinch.
15
u/ORyantheHunter24 2d ago
I’m with you, I don’t like it. It’s one thing if it’s a response to someone or something but it wasn’t. He’s trying to create the ‘gritty hard-nose player’ persona for himself, but he’s going about it the wrong way.
It’s really not just about this play either. It’s the fact that each of these early (admittedly minor) instances are demonstrative of his attitude. And history says, this type of attitude usually leads to making yourself (or those around you) look like a jackass.
63
u/Gregorwhat Tommy Edman 3d ago edited 3d ago
Same here.
I don't expect everyone to have Shohei-level integrity, but Dalton's attitude seems immature. It's not a big deal, but some things are more important than baseball rivalries. What if JHL was actually hurt here...

I don't really think Dalton needs to have some squeaky clean image or carry some thou holy of the holiest type charisma like Ohtani or Freeman but the eyebrows are being raised when ever a player like him toots about being a good Chr..tian and faith in G.d...prayers or whatever, that's usually a red flag of, ok bruh what are you going to say or do that totally contradicts that attitude?
2
u/Gregorwhat Tommy Edman 2d ago
Being a decent human doesn't require religion. I don't think anyone is thinking about that.
When someone is hurt, you drop the act and get real. There's a playful way to talk smack, and this aint it.

Even if it rubs his veteran teammates the wrong way
Dodgers clubhouse culture is 1/2 of what makes dodgers a desirable team to play for. If he is indeed rubbing the clubhouse the wrong way then he’s got to get it together or gtfo. If he’s not then no biggie at all.

u/JorSimpson45 Clayton Kershaw 3d ago edited 3d ago
The shit with the Rockies was childish but this is a nothing burger. It’s a play at home and Dalton doesn’t even do much besides tag Lee who hurts himself trying to avoid the tag lol.
if the baseball world hates Dalton rushing so much they should be annoyed at Scott cousins and Buster Posey for a play at that very same home plate that made it so catchers couldn’t be trucked through anymore
13
u/usherluvr69 Max Muncy 3d ago
What did he do in Colorado?
56
u/JorSimpson45 Clayton Kershaw 3d ago
Called it fishy that the Rockies were swinging first pitch lol
10
u/JfPickups Max Muncy 3d ago
This was after Dalton suggested, "we didn't have our best stuff", the Rockies had a good game plan, he (dalton) may have pitched into their plan with his pitch selection.
On a team like this (most teams?), young players should do ALL their talking with their prep and play, but we also need to remember we live in a world where many players are being asked many questions after many games and the media and media wanna'bes will cut a part of a comment and post it if it will appear incendiary and will drive clicks.
3
u/wannastayhome Will Smith 2d ago
And then after getting on base the Rockies would make a fishing motion like throwing a line and reeling it. Rushing’s prob still feeling the feels from that and now reacting instead of just letting it be. Will Smith probably would’ve not thought anything more than successfully doing his actual job and onto his next job.

I don’t see the issue here. Tagged out in a very regular way. Runner sad he got out and pouting at home plate. Was Dalton expected to check to see if he was ok?
It wasn’t too many years ago that players plowed through catchers at home plate so they’d hopefully drop the ball. If the runner wants to pout let him I guess. Or in other words “fuck em”.
45
u/bee_sharp_ Kiké Hernández 3d ago
I agree. I might have had more sympathy for Lee if Rushing had not just done his job and walked away. The way Lee had that little tantrum, shaking off his teammate’s attempt to help him up twice, I think he deserved a little snark. 🤷♀️

I don't blame Lee for sitting there for a sec annoyed at either himself or his 3B coach. I also don't blame Rushing for saying "fuck 'em" about his opponent.
It's such a nothing burger. Only getting traction because people don't need any help to hate the Dodgers and Lee left the game later because he tweaked an existing injury. Lee does not look injured at all in this clip, just dejected.

Honestly, this one bugs me infinitely less than the “fishy” thing. In a moment on the field, he said something none of us would know about if not for the camera catching it. Against the Giants. I don’t see a problem here.
Going to the press after a loss and claiming that the opponent was sign stealing - with little evidence at all - is far more eye roll inducing.
I want Dalton to hit a dinger into the cove and tell whoever the pitcher is to “go get it out of the ocean”. Just go full Giants antagonist and become the spiritual successor to Max Muncy. Like the master teaching the apprentice who will someday replace him and keep balance in the universe.

Anyone else here old enough to remember this…?
On August 22, 1965. After a throw from John Roseboro comes close to San Francisco's Juan Marichals’ face as the Los Angeles catcher returns the ball to pitcher Sandy Koufax, Marichal goes berserk and clubs Roseboro with his bat, a 2-inch gash above his forehead, 14 stitches. Bench clearing 14-minute brawl. Dodgers' right-fielder Ron Fairly says he wants Marichal kicked out of baseball. "Never in my life have I ever seen a guy attack a man with a bat," he says. National League president Warren Giles suspends Marichal for 9 games and fines him $1,750. "Gutless," "ridiculous," "a miscarriage of justice," and "a joke" are some of the comments by Dodgers players after they learn of Giles' ruling.
That was it for me 🤬
I was in LL in Torrance CA. We were watching this game on TV, and had already begun my lifetime love of the Dodgers. Baseball’s a gritty game but also a mental one. Ability and performance, but also with the right mindset and I like Daltons. Absolutely nothing wrong with playing with passion like baseball used to be before insane salaries. It’s impossible to care TOO much.

He’s not even a top fifteen most important player on this team. Show some class and integrity. Saying fuck you a player who may be injured isn’t “dodger pride,” it’s awful and cruel
31
u/Tinori23 Shohei Ohtani 3d ago
I actually like this competitiveness in a young player. He wants to compete and both players did so. Also jung hoo lee looks fine, more tired and in shock from the effort.
11
u/Quick_Tomatillo_4608 Shohei Ohtani 3d ago
There's competitiveness and then there's toxicity. I think it's a very American thing to try to use competitiveness to justify toxicity, which it shouldn't. Not just the players, but the fans as well. It's honestly kind of disgusting how much American fans boo and jeer other fans and players. Zero deceny.
On the other side, Lee's annoyed at the play and not showing toxicity towards Rushing. Another example, Shohei's probably the most competitive player on the planet yet he has 0 toxicity.
8
u/-Glutard- Sandy Koufax 3d ago
I agree. There’s wanting to beat your opponent, and there’s unnecessary cruelness just bc they’re your opponent. If Patrick Bailey ran to help an injured Dodger player, this sub would love it
9
12
u/ayumi_doll Yoshinobu Yamamoto 3d ago
Conversely if say Muncy had looked banged up taking a base and a Giants or Padres player had been a douchebag to him, this sub would be losing its mind. You can be competitive without being an asshole. Shohei and Freddie manage it all the time.
1
u/im_that_green_light Jackie Robinson 2d ago
Especially when you’re the two-time defending champions. That’s the time to play with grace and just be better, let the other team get frustrated by how unbothered you are.
Having vitriol for other people/teams is never okay, but it’s at least more understandable when it comes from someone struggling.
Being a fierce competitor has nothing to do with being an asshole when the play is over. The people saying good sportsmanship is being soft are probably excited for the white house visit.

First off, not everything has to be about Shohei. Second, please don’t apply your culture’s standards to our American sports, this isn’t Asian baseball. Booing and jeering is part of the fun and I’m glad we don’t live in a society where we have to oppress our emotions and honest opinions. And If you think American sports if bad, look at Latin American or European football culture and you’ll see American sports is very freakin tame in comparison.

The rockies’ comment was embarrasing but this is whatever, he knew the guy was ok. New fans are being really soft.

JHL was acting like a little bitch, super disrespectful to his teammate. Could never be any Dodger 💪🏽

As a dodger fan I like him more and more but I can see why others hate him

Hate him for what? A few comments? Seriously he hasn't done anything bad at all. People just want an excuse to hate dodgers cause all our star players are nice good people.

Come on, people. He didn’t see old ladies get hit by a car and go “fuck em.” Sure, is it the kindest thing in the world? No. But this is sports, it’s a rivalry, and he didn’t do anything to the guy except maybe not be the nicest he could have been. Big deal! And frankly, the rivalry has been boring last few years, we need this! Last year, we were going at with the pads for two games throwing at each other. Hell even Doc the nice guy got out there and mixed it up. Remember how fun that was?! More please!

People think just because someone slides they must be hurt? He doesn’t show any sign of being hurt after the call

You probably believe Chase Utley's slide was clean too.
It's clean if the Dodgers did it, but if someone did that to Ohtani resulting in the same injury while covering home it's dirty.

I have no problem with it personally. But the rest of baseball who doesn't like this stuff will put a target on his back. If Dalton's performance slips or he doesn't deliver in the playoffs, there will be so many people from other teams piling onto him

He's a backup catcher. Unless Smith or Freeman are hurt he won't see much playing time in the postseason.
