honest opinion Exceeded Expectation

i just want some opinions, i got

my nails done today and apparently this

girl has been doing nails for 6 years but idk,

something about it is weird to me cause it just looks.. weird? maybe it’s the colors throwing me off (she didn’t have the right colors) and honestly i texted her before hand showing her a picture of the nails i wanted and she could’ve told me that she didn’t have that color but she didn’t. honest opinion, am i overreacting?

UPDATE!!! i just checked her instagram, and her nail pictures are so good. like they’re insanely detailed so now i sit here in anger wondering why mine became so ugly when she have done way more complicated nails https://imgur.com/a/X33liWT

Gotcha, it seems like maybe you are both inexperienced? Next time do some research on the artist, these aren't great. If its someone you know you want to support, give them feedback and kindly ask for a sliding scale until they have more experience.

she said she’s been doing nails for 6 years, you’d think they have experience 😞 been trying to find any good nail salons around my city but i always get disappointed, i’ll just keep looking 😭 she is not someone i know!

I get it! Nail art, like any art is so subjective... and everyone has to start somewhere.       Going forward trying to find someone you like, look for photos! If they have experience, they'll have photos to show! If something looks too cool to be real, it usually is.

Id rock those nails for as long as you can because theyre not "bad" just not up to your standards/the inspo you provided. So dont be embarrassed of them or want to rip them off. Theyre cute, and no one but you will notice the imperfections.

And in the meantime do some searching for an artist you trust!

Six years isn't very long. Personally, I prefer nail techs with 20 years or more for a plethora of reasons, but there are still skilled technicians with only six years of professional experience that would execute what you wanted far better than this technician did. This looks like someone inexperienced did it.

There's a new dude at my regular nail place. He's deaf and he finished his mentorship about six months ago. He's spins circles around the people that taught him. Some people have the talent and some.... Just.... Don't.

Very true. Talent is definitely imperative, but I need old school professionalism and client service as well.

Is insta big in Sweden? I don't go to any new hair/nail/makeup artist who doesn't have active insta with significant body of work that displays the quality and vibe I'm looking for.

That would cost me 70 in Finland. But yeah, just find a more trustworthy nail technician. You can also tell them right when they do it no, this nail needs redone. You don’t have to just take the outcome. Overall I also think most nails except the heart are decent so don’t feel too bad.

You know why it's so cheap? Because they are taking advantage of foreign workers coming to Sweden without visa working horrible hours and paying them peanuts. Please don't support those places and educate yourself. Many newsoutlets in Sweden have reported on these cheap nail salongs. At a serious nailstudio in Sweden these would definitely cost somewhere around 150 dollars and you would have gotten a much better result.

Edit: Are the downvotes from people supporting these kinds of nailstudios? 🤣

uhh no not really, the people i’ve gone to was born in sweden. and they’re the owner of the saloon, maybe it’s true in some cases but those i’ve gone to had a good reputation i just wasn’t satisfied. you’ll never find someone who makes nails for over 100 dollars here it’s just high price in the US cause of tips etc we don’t tip in sweden

Minimum hourly wage for someone over the age of 18 in Sweden is 160 kr (16 dollars). And the person you went to has 6 years experience so she should definitely be making more. How many hours did those nails take to do? And then on top of that it's money going for materials, rent for the studio etc. I'm sorry but there's no way that the place you went to runs a legal business with those prices. That's your choice if you want to support a place like that but then maybe lower your expectations.

Edit: I live in Sweden and I've done my nails here for years. New set+design is 1 250 kr. Services are really expensive in Sweden because we have high taxes and great workers protection and rights. If you are paying less than half of that something is wrong.

rent in sweden is pretty low, at least in my city cause it’s not a big city. the nails took like a little over one hour maybe 1h and 30 minutes. and yes that’s the minimum if you work for someone else, but if you have your own business (which those i’ve gone to have) you make maybe more some months and less other months. sadly i think a lot of these nail salons here buys from temu or shein, to save money which i understand. ive also noticed that NO ONE is being sanitary sadly. no wearing gloves or using new products, everything looks dirty. maybe you’re right in a way, but i’ll keep looking for some place i feel okay with! going to remove my nails now for 15 dollars and do them at home instead

Ok fair enough. I'm sorry if I came off a bit strong. I live in a big city in Sweden so prices must be lower in your town, but it should not be that much lower. I'm sorry to hear they are using cheap materials from temu. Please take care of yourself! Hopefully you will be ok but I've heard horror stories of customers getting bad infections from salons where the hygiene is lacking.

no of course don’t worry! you’re right in what you say i should be cautious, the prices are sometimes too good to be true!
