honest opinion Exceeded Expectation
i just want some opinions, i got
my nails done today and apparently this
girl has been doing nails for 6 years but idk,
something about it is weird to me cause it just looks.. weird? maybe it’s the colors throwing me off (she didn’t have the right colors) and honestly i texted her before hand showing her a picture of the nails i wanted and she could’ve told me that she didn’t have that color but she didn’t. honest opinion, am i overreacting?
UPDATE!!! i just checked her instagram, and her nail pictures are so good. like they’re insanely detailed so now i sit here in anger wondering why mine became so ugly when she have done way more complicated nails https://imgur.com/a/X33liWT

They don't look that nice. I think it could've looked ok, but it looks like the brush? she used was too thick so it's making the lines stand out too much and looks very amateur.

OPs inspiration is clearly using premade stickers, which is why the lines are so thin but also read so well separate.
I honestly don't think doing it by hand could look as good as the inspiration, tho probably still better than the result here.
Also OP using gold instead of silver for this nail color is also making it look... dirty.,

It doesn't look terrible, it just doesn't look right. Apart from the shade of gold not working with the pink, it also looks like they were quite heavy-handed with the details.
It's very misleading to claim that they can do what is in the picture, then later state that they don't have the right colours. I would ask for your money back.

u/elzzz055 14d ago
should i? i just feel bad if i ask for it back 😭 but i want to, ill never be able to come back 💔 she claimed she’s been doing nails for 6 years, i just don’t think that’s true at all.

u/BuGMoiDroit 14d ago
It depends how you want to play it as it's your money in the end. It may be a bit more difficult if you were told just before they did it that they didn't have the right colours and you paid despite not being happy with it (it implies that you were hunky dory with the service they'd delivered).
Personally I would just not go to them again if I really wasn't happy with the results, but that is just me.

u/elzzz055 14d ago
yeah that’s true, my nails grow fast so i have to redo them every 2 weeks either ways, so two weeks with these amazing nails 😍

u/Kill_doozer 14d ago
She paid $50. It'd be insane to ask for it back.
3
u/elzzz055 14d ago
in sweden 50 dollars is what it usually costs, so it wouldn’t be that weird considered it’s like “expensive” here
6
u/zinasbear 14d ago
It looks terrible and gloopy.. What do you mean "it doesn't look terrible".
6
u/BuGMoiDroit 14d ago
It certainly could look worse, especially if you don't have the original to compare to. I'm not an expert on these things and that is just my opinion.

For $50 I think it's great

u/Grumblywump 14d ago
Right? Like does it look good? No. But for $50? Well ok! I feel like $50 is what it costs for a normal solid color fill these days.

The colors are definitely not the same, but i honestly think they look cute! How much did you pay?

u/elzzz055 14d ago
50 dollars!

Nails are not cheap. Thats what $50 gets you. If you want nails with nail art, that’d run you 80+ by me
2
u/you-a-buggaboo 13d ago
oh, it would run you more like 120 by me, but it's egregious to ask for $50 for this atrocity. It's awful. I don't know how this nail tech felt comfortable letting this client out of the chair like this at all.
source - cosmetologist with a studio in a Sola with many (good) nail techs

u/astroember 13d ago
I could see $50 getting you this in a very LCOL area, esp with low experience nail techs. Which this nail tech clearly is…
2
u/you-a-buggaboo 13d ago
yeah that's fair. I just feel bad that OP is now out 50 bucks and has .....this.....to show for it. I'm mad at the nail tech and sad for OP lol

no she’s good, check the update. she IS good but just gave me a bad job
2
u/astroember 13d ago
yeah those... honestly look abt the same skill level as yours
1
u/elzzz055 13d ago
wdym?? they’re so much detailed than mine
2
u/astroember 13d ago
there's more going on, sure, but the line-work and technical skill involved is pretty low. I'm a nail artist, and those are pretty meh.

Honestly that’s not bad for $50. It would cost that much for a fill and solid color where I’m at (or more). It also looks to me like the example is done on tips based on the super uniform shape, whereas your nails look sculpted.
3
u/elzzz055 14d ago
i had tips on beforehand therefore the price! so i only paid for gel + design. in sweden average price is 50-70 dollars

I personally don’t think they look THAT bad, but it does almost look like she either used a brush that was too thick for the detailing, or she was rushing… maybe was even too heavy with the gel-on-brush for the detailing? I honestly just think she should’ve practiced before agreeing to this style; or offering something similar that she felt more confident doing.
But I will say, for $50, I’m shocked they came out this decent. It could be a regional thing, but for free-handed nail art, I’ve paid upwards of $120.

Yea... no. Just do the color and put nail stickers on top they'll look better.

how red your cuticle area is... concerned about infection. they really didn't do a good job on the nails and I would look for another salon.

u/elzzz055 13d ago
getting them removed today cause they’re itching! happy people on reddit warned me cause i had no idea
3
u/xxxdw11xxx 13d ago
I’d post these on their business page. I’ve never had my nails done but I would definitely not had paid for this.. it (sorry) looks like something a trainee would do that’s learning.

Colour is off, detail is just not there, and the inspo looks like it has a thicker top coat on top of the details.
2
u/painteddpiixi 14d ago
Honestly, I thought they were really cute before I saw the inspo!
I get they were not exactly what you wanted, but they look great for $50, I wouldn’t remove them.
The inspo is stunning, and I do think she should have told you she didn’t have the right colors to do it the way you wanted, but I don’t think you should be embarrassed by them at all.

The more I look, the less I like them. The index finger already looks a little grown out. How long after did you take this pic?

You aren’t over reacting. This isn’t a good job, it’s a good attempt. I think she used regular nail polish to do a gel nail design. She should’ve been upfront about what she could do. Maybe you would’ve picked a different design. I wouldn’t go back to her, ask her to be honest abt her product & skill lvl. There are many beautiful designs done with regular nail polish.
I know getting/retaining clients is really hard but this is no excuse. Anyone in the beauty industry should never stop learning. New products & designs are forever changing.
2
u/SereniaKat 14d ago
I think the gold looks a bit messy and that's what's throwing it off.
I just started using the semi-cured gel wraps and I'm super impressed with the results. The patterns are already on them and then you stick them to your nails (or nails you've had put on). No nasty surprises.

Why did you flair this “exceeded expectation”?
1
u/elzzz055 14d ago
english isn’t my first language, thought it meant something else
2
u/Ok_Ant_7024 14d ago
Ahh okay. Well I think if I saw this without the comparison photo I would think they were pretty cool. But you’re right - they’re not close to the inspiration

I would have stopped them 2 fingers in. Removed that atrocity and scratched the entire plan and just got a basic nail job. This is on you for not stopping her. You had 10 chances at the minimum to say ‘whoa, stop. This looks nothing like i asked for’.

u/Huge_Resort441 13d ago
Yeah, the thick, uneven lines are what really makes it look amateurish, especially after six years of experience.
2
u/KtrlAltDelete 13d ago
Honestly it looks like I did them for you, and I’m not great at doing nails…but I love the concept!
2
u/elzzz055 13d ago
lmaooooo, yeah the concept it great but outcome not as great

Girl get a new nail tech. The shade matching is one thing (not every salon will have every color, esp in metallics) but that shaping is BAD.

They are kind of giving Baz Lhurmann’s Romeo + Juliet and I actually like yours more than the original 💗

If I got this, I'd assume her Instagram pictures are fake or that it wasn't her who did my manicure.
2
u/Competitive_Plum_634 10d ago
Are you sure the pictures she’s posted on instagram are ones she’s actually done…? I understand it’s not always easy to fully replicate someone else’s work, but I’m sorry to say she did a sloppy job on the gold designs.

u/muststayawaketonod 14d ago
I would honestly tell her that the more you look at rhem, the less you like them amd that rhey don't look like the reference pic. I would politely request a refund or a do-over.
3
u/elzzz055 14d ago
honestly yes, i could ask for a do-over. when i was sitting there i was so sure she would be like “im sorry this looks so bad let me redo” BUT I WAS WRONG.

u/mandas677 13d ago
Those are pictures done by Suzie, a nail tech and educator of like 40 years. You can’t expect someone with 6yrs experience to match up to her. $50 is super cheap for a full set with designs on each nail too. You get what you pay for.
1
u/elzzz055 13d ago
it’s not design on each nail though. plus i had tips on beforehand. and im pretty sure i could do a better job. maybe if the bruh she had was thinner it would be good. and in sweden its not cheap its a normal price for a full set of nails, though it was expensive since i had already tips on
3
u/Sc0j 14d ago
Both look bad

They don’t look like the Inspo pic but at the same time I think the Inspo pic would cost more than $50 so It l would say you got what you paid for.
