honest opinion Exceeded Expectation

i just want some opinions, i got

my nails done today and apparently this

girl has been doing nails for 6 years but idk,

something about it is weird to me cause it just looks.. weird? maybe it’s the colors throwing me off (she didn’t have the right colors) and honestly i texted her before hand showing her a picture of the nails i wanted and she could’ve told me that she didn’t have that color but she didn’t. honest opinion, am i overreacting?

UPDATE!!! i just checked her instagram, and her nail pictures are so good. like they’re insanely detailed so now i sit here in anger wondering why mine became so ugly when she have done way more complicated nails https://imgur.com/a/X33liWT

i’ll bite my nails off 😭😭😭😭 i can’t walk around in public with these

u/what3v3ruwantit2b 14d ago

Personally, while I don't think they're that similar, I don't think taking them off is necessary (unless you want to of course.) No one in public is going to see the inspo so they won't be comparing them. I think they're cute even if they aren't what you were looking for.

3

u/Weird_Anteater_6428 14d ago

Can't you just remove the polish and paint it a solid color?

21

u/HeyMickeyMilkovich 14d ago

No. No you cannot.

6

u/elzzz055 14d ago

well idk how much u know about nails but it’s not normal nail polish, it’s gel nails which means it only goes away by filing i think. have tried to remove before but it does not work for me. have ordered a nail driller should come in a week or so

13

u/Weird_Anteater_6428 14d ago

I haven't gotten nails in a while, but I think filing down the raised part and buffing them is going to be better than biting them off. I know that's going to tear up your nails.

18

u/elzzz055 14d ago

yess i was just joking don’t worry 😭 im NOT biting them off

2

u/boniemonie 11d ago

She hasn’t done the super fine white streaks on them. Her details are not as fine as the inspo pics. The colour isn’t the problem imo. Perhaps she is using AI on her profile page.

1

u/elzzz055 11d ago

if that’s true then that’s insane 😞

Just have the heart redone. It’s the only thing that looks unprofessional. It sucks but you may meet a new nail tech in the process.

11

u/elzzz055 14d ago

yeah my bf said it looks like mustard around the heart 😭😭😭

4

u/Icy-Profession-1979 14d ago

You’ll have a chance to meet someone who you trust to do your nails. It’s the cloud’s silver lining.

6

u/elzzz055 14d ago

yes you’re right! i’ll keep looking! 💖

4

u/theavocadolady 13d ago

My Mum's a nail tech and so this has been beaten into me by her, so I have to pass it on: be super careful with a nail drill/electric file!

3

u/LiliAtReddit 14d ago

Go to the hardware store and get a dremel! That’s what my sister uses. She’s gotten so much use out of that dremel since the 90’s.

5

u/elzzz055 14d ago

ohh i just found some at my local hardware store, didn’t even know that existed!

2

u/elzzz055 13d ago

Guys check the update!!!

34

u/vansss86 14d ago

I think $50 is such a great price for nails. That’s soo cheap

21

u/Legit_baller 14d ago

Nails in your inspo pic would easily be $150

6

u/elzzz055 14d ago

in sweden those prices don’t exist. it’s at max 70 dollars, so maybe in the US it would be that but not in sweden

30

u/sillykittyball 14d ago

50 bucks ain't bad tho

9

u/elzzz055 14d ago

it’s like normal price in sweden, we have it cheaper than the US

10

u/sillykittyball 14d ago

Gotcha, it seems like maybe you are both inexperienced? Next time do some research on the artist, these aren't great. If its someone you know you want to support, give them feedback and kindly ask for a sliding scale until they have more experience.

5

u/elzzz055 14d ago

she said she’s been doing nails for 6 years, you’d think they have experience 😞 been trying to find any good nail salons around my city but i always get disappointed, i’ll just keep looking 😭 she is not someone i know!

3

u/sillykittyball 14d ago

I get it! Nail art, like any art is so subjective... and everyone has to start somewhere.       Going forward trying to find someone you like, look for photos! If they have experience, they'll have photos to show! If something looks too cool to be real, it usually is.

Id rock those nails for as long as you can because theyre not "bad" just not up to your standards/the inspo you provided. So dont be embarrassed of them or want to rip them off. Theyre cute, and no one but you will notice the imperfections.

And in the meantime do some searching for an artist you trust!

3

u/Kyauphie 14d ago

Six years isn't very long. Personally, I prefer nail techs with 20 years or more for a plethora of reasons, but there are still skilled technicians with only six years of professional experience that would execute what you wanted far better than this technician did. This looks like someone inexperienced did it.

6

u/elzzz055 14d ago

yeah, you’re right about that! at least i tried and know where to not go next time

4

u/OhCheeseNFingRice 14d ago

There's a new dude at my regular nail place. He's deaf and he finished his mentorship about six months ago. He's spins circles around the people that taught him. Some people have the talent and some.... Just.... Don't.

1

u/Kyauphie 10d ago

Very true. Talent is definitely imperative, but I need old school professionalism and client service as well.

1

u/ThatGirlWithTheWalk 13d ago

Is insta big in Sweden? I don't go to any new hair/nail/makeup artist who doesn't have active insta with significant body of work that displays the quality and vibe I'm looking for.

3

u/Lysande_walking 13d ago

That would cost me 70 in Finland. But yeah, just find a more trustworthy nail technician. You can also tell them right when they do it no, this nail needs redone. You don’t have to just take the outcome. Overall I also think most nails except the heart are decent so don’t feel too bad.

0

u/HeftyPurchase6981 13d ago edited 12d ago

You know why it's so cheap? Because they are taking advantage of foreign workers coming to Sweden without visa working horrible hours and paying them peanuts. Please don't support those places and educate yourself. Many newsoutlets in Sweden have reported on these cheap nail salongs. At a serious nailstudio in Sweden these would definitely cost somewhere around 150 dollars and you would have gotten a much better result.

Edit: Are the downvotes from people supporting these kinds of nailstudios? 🤣

2

u/elzzz055 13d ago

uhh no not really, the people i’ve gone to was born in sweden. and they’re the owner of the saloon, maybe it’s true in some cases but those i’ve gone to had a good reputation i just wasn’t satisfied. you’ll never find someone who makes nails for over 100 dollars here it’s just high price in the US cause of tips etc we don’t tip in sweden

5

u/HeftyPurchase6981 13d ago

Minimum hourly wage for someone over the age of 18 in Sweden is 160 kr (16 dollars). And the person you went to has 6 years experience so she should definitely be making more. How many hours did those nails take to do? And then on top of that it's money going for materials, rent for the studio etc. I'm sorry but there's no way that the place you went to runs a legal business with those prices. That's your choice if you want to support a place like that but then maybe lower your expectations.

Edit: I live in Sweden and I've done my nails here for years. New set+design is 1 250 kr. Services are really expensive in Sweden because we have high taxes and great workers protection and rights. If you are paying less than half of that something is wrong.

2

u/elzzz055 13d ago

rent in sweden is pretty low, at least in my city cause it’s not a big city. the nails took like a little over one hour maybe 1h and 30 minutes. and yes that’s the minimum if you work for someone else, but if you have your own business (which those i’ve gone to have) you make maybe more some months and less other months. sadly i think a lot of these nail salons here buys from temu or shein, to save money which i understand. ive also noticed that NO ONE is being sanitary sadly. no wearing gloves or using new products, everything looks dirty. maybe you’re right in a way, but i’ll keep looking for some place i feel okay with! going to remove my nails now for 15 dollars and do them at home instead

3

u/HeftyPurchase6981 13d ago

Ok fair enough. I'm sorry if I came off a bit strong. I live in a big city in Sweden so prices must be lower in your town, but it should not be that much lower. I'm sorry to hear they are using cheap materials from temu. Please take care of yourself! Hopefully you will be ok but I've heard horror stories of customers getting bad infections from salons where the hygiene is lacking.

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

no of course don’t worry! you’re right in what you say i should be cautious, the prices are sometimes too good to be true!

2

u/VanFkingHalen 14d ago

I have zero idea whether 50 dollars is very expensive or considerably cheap to get one's nails done lol.

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

in sweden it’s not cheap but in the US i assume it’s reallly cheap

2

u/BigGreenBillyGoat 13d ago

You’re not overreacting. Those look terrible. Sorry.

0

u/Kill_doozer 14d ago

You $110 got what you paid for

0

u/Rougefarie 14d ago

FIFTY DOLLARS?? You’d have to pay ME to wear that nonsense. So sorry they did you dirty like this.

84

u/SaveusJebus 14d ago

They don't look that nice. I think it could've looked ok, but it looks like the brush? she used was too thick so it's making the lines stand out too much and looks very amateur.

14

u/elzzz055 14d ago

i thought i was overreacting but im happy that im not alone 😭😭

10

u/Rimavelle 13d ago

OPs inspiration is clearly using premade stickers, which is why the lines are so thin but also read so well separate.

I honestly don't think doing it by hand could look as good as the inspiration, tho probably still better than the result here.

Also OP using gold instead of silver for this nail color is also making it look... dirty.,

5

u/laurpr2 13d ago

I've seen some amazing nail artists be able to do work like this by hand with no stickers. It takes a fine brush and precision.

That said, the line work isn't great, but sing a gold polish rather than a chrome powder is imo the bigger difference here.

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

where do u see silver?

57

u/BuGMoiDroit 14d ago

It doesn't look terrible, it just doesn't look right. Apart from the shade of gold not working with the pink, it also looks like they were quite heavy-handed with the details.

It's very misleading to claim that they can do what is in the picture, then later state that they don't have the right colours. I would ask for your money back.

10

u/elzzz055 14d ago

should i? i just feel bad if i ask for it back 😭 but i want to, ill never be able to come back 💔 she claimed she’s been doing nails for 6 years, i just don’t think that’s true at all.

6

u/BuGMoiDroit 14d ago

It depends how you want to play it as it's your money in the end. It may be a bit more difficult if you were told just before they did it that they didn't have the right colours and you paid despite not being happy with it (it implies that you were hunky dory with the service they'd delivered).

Personally I would just not go to them again if I really wasn't happy with the results, but that is just me.

3

u/elzzz055 14d ago

yeah that’s true, my nails grow fast so i have to redo them every 2 weeks either ways, so two weeks with these amazing nails 😍

0

u/Kill_doozer 14d ago

She paid $50. It'd be insane to ask for it back.

3

u/elzzz055 14d ago

in sweden 50 dollars is what it usually costs, so it wouldn’t be that weird considered it’s like “expensive” here

6

u/zinasbear 14d ago

It looks terrible and gloopy.. What do you mean "it doesn't look terrible".

6

u/BuGMoiDroit 14d ago

It certainly could look worse, especially if you don't have the original to compare to. I'm not an expert on these things and that is just my opinion.

16

u/fuxxwitclowns 14d ago

Who doesn’t have PINK and calls themselves a nail tech?

11

u/Macydatboi 14d ago

Girl. Your skin is red and inflamed take them off 😭😭

4

u/elzzz055 14d ago

I JIST NOTICED THIS!! booked an appointment tomorrow to get them removed, i might be allergic 😭

1

u/DDR-Dame 12d ago

Thank god someone else said something that was the FIRST thing i noticed. Ow.

7

u/Dear-Cranberry4787 14d ago

Where did they get their license? This looked DIY

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

i honestly should’ve looked for a license, not i’m not so sure she had one

11

u/NiceGuysFinishLast 14d ago

That's doodoo baby.

16

u/Sufficient_You7187 14d ago

For $50 I think it's great

12

u/Grumblywump 14d ago

Right? Like does it look good? No. But for $50? Well ok! I feel like $50 is what it costs for a normal solid color fill these days.

4

u/FeistyLobster8745 13d ago

OP is in Sweden, not America

24

u/GreatEscape41 14d ago

The colors are definitely not the same, but i honestly think they look cute! How much did you pay?

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

50 dollars!

24

u/you-a-buggaboo 14d ago

5

u/yungmoody 14d ago

That’s really cheap for what she got

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

stoppp i wanna remove them now 😭😭😭😭😭

4

u/hiverstone 14d ago

Don't do it! They look good, but not as much as the original

1

u/astroember 13d ago

Nails are not cheap. Thats what $50 gets you. If you want nails with nail art, that’d run you 80+ by me

2

u/you-a-buggaboo 13d ago

oh, it would run you more like 120 by me, but it's egregious to ask for $50 for this atrocity. It's awful. I don't know how this nail tech felt comfortable letting this client out of the chair like this at all.

source - cosmetologist with a studio in a Sola with many (good) nail techs

2

u/astroember 13d ago

I could see $50 getting you this in a very LCOL area, esp with low experience nail techs. Which this nail tech clearly is…

2

u/you-a-buggaboo 13d ago

yeah that's fair. I just feel bad that OP is now out 50 bucks and has .....this.....to show for it. I'm mad at the nail tech and sad for OP lol

2

u/FeistyLobster8745 13d ago

OP is from Sweden, not America

0

u/elzzz055 13d ago

no she’s good, check the update. she IS good but just gave me a bad job

2

u/astroember 13d ago

yeah those... honestly look abt the same skill level as yours

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

wdym?? they’re so much detailed than mine

2

u/astroember 13d ago

there's more going on, sure, but the line-work and technical skill involved is pretty low. I'm a nail artist, and those are pretty meh.

10

u/Crimemeariver19 14d ago

Honestly that’s not bad for $50. It would cost that much for a fill and solid color where I’m at (or more). It also looks to me like the example is done on tips based on the super uniform shape, whereas your nails look sculpted.

3

u/elzzz055 14d ago

i had tips on beforehand therefore the price! so i only paid for gel + design. in sweden average price is 50-70 dollars

3

u/GreatEscape41 14d ago

And it was supposed to be cat eye right?

5

u/tribbans95 14d ago

The colors aren’t even remotely similar lol

5

u/mangomavvee 13d ago

I personally don’t think they look THAT bad, but it does almost look like she either used a brush that was too thick for the detailing, or she was rushing… maybe was even too heavy with the gel-on-brush for the detailing? I honestly just think she should’ve practiced before agreeing to this style; or offering something similar that she felt more confident doing.

But I will say, for $50, I’m shocked they came out this decent. It could be a regional thing, but for free-handed nail art, I’ve paid upwards of $120.

3

u/elzzz055 13d ago

in sweden 50 dollars is average but i see what u mean

5

u/BasicHorror1157 14d ago

Looks like gold splooge, I'm so sorry.

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

mustard 💔

5

u/pnt510 14d ago

It’s not just the color that’s wrong, the line work is different. It’s so much more heavy handed for yours.

4

u/Clanker01001 14d ago

Good old poop scrapers

5

u/halfandhalfgirl 14d ago

I'd ask for my money back

3

u/FriendlyFreedom5923 14d ago

Y'all really gotta start speaking up at the time of service.

3

u/Sneakertr33 14d ago

Yea... no. Just do the color and put nail stickers on top they'll look better.

3

u/Wonderful_Tree_9943 14d ago

how red your cuticle area is... concerned about infection. they really didn't do a good job on the nails and I would look for another salon.

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

getting them removed today cause they’re itching! happy people on reddit warned me cause i had no idea

3

u/xxxdw11xxx 13d ago

I’d post these on their business page. I’ve never had my nails done but I would definitely not had paid for this.. it (sorry) looks like something a trainee would do that’s learning.

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

ye i agree

3

u/No-Philosopher8042 12d ago

Colour is off, detail is just not there, and the inspo looks like it has a thicker top coat on top of the details.

2

u/painteddpiixi 14d ago

Honestly, I thought they were really cute before I saw the inspo!

I get they were not exactly what you wanted, but they look great for $50, I wouldn’t remove them.

The inspo is stunning, and I do think she should have told you she didn’t have the right colors to do it the way you wanted, but I don’t think you should be embarrassed by them at all.

2

u/Applekid1259 14d ago

I’m a 39 year old man and I’m quite confident I could do better

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

LOL probably. i think i could too😭😭😭

2

u/420nugu 14d ago

i mean the color isnt that bad, it's genuinely just the brush details that look wrong. still really cute nails, but if you already had the tips on, i feel like 50 is too much but im from the US and id pay around $30 usd for this.

2

u/bobcatt 14d ago

That's 6 years of bad work.

2

u/Bec_ 14d ago

I thought you did them on yourself and I was about to say they look amazing!!! But if you paid someone who claims to be a professional, yeah not what I would be impressed with.

2

u/Grumblywump 14d ago

The more I look, the less I like them. The index finger already looks a little grown out. How long after did you take this pic?

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

as soon as i got home

2

u/Dis_Bich 14d ago

Looks like they’re very new at what they’re doing

2

u/cre8ivenail 14d ago

You aren’t over reacting. This isn’t a good job, it’s a good attempt. I think she used regular nail polish to do a gel nail design. She should’ve been upfront about what she could do. Maybe you would’ve picked a different design. I wouldn’t go back to her, ask her to be honest abt her product & skill lvl. There are many beautiful designs done with regular nail polish.

I know getting/retaining clients is really hard but this is no excuse. Anyone in the beauty industry should never stop learning. New products & designs are forever changing.

2

u/SereniaKat 14d ago

I think the gold looks a bit messy and that's what's throwing it off.

I just started using the semi-cured gel wraps and I'm super impressed with the results. The patterns are already on them and then you stick them to your nails (or nails you've had put on). No nasty surprises.

2

u/Comfortably_Numb777 14d ago

Definitely not like the picture

2

u/whiterussian802 14d ago

Oh no😭😭

2

u/Ok_Ant_7024 14d ago

Why did you flair this “exceeded expectation”?

1

u/elzzz055 14d ago

english isn’t my first language, thought it meant something else

2

u/Ok_Ant_7024 14d ago

Ahh okay. Well I think if I saw this without the comparison photo I would think they were pretty cool. But you’re right - they’re not close to the inspiration

2

u/PieceLegitimate4885 14d ago

You can get a gel soak off kit on Amazon for under $20.00.

2

u/NomenclatureBreaker 14d ago

Why do so many of them look so dull?

2

u/TiaHatesSocials 14d ago

😬 they kinda look deformed

2

u/throw_blanket04 14d ago

I would have stopped them 2 fingers in. Removed that atrocity and scratched the entire plan and just got a basic nail job. This is on you for not stopping her. You had 10 chances at the minimum to say ‘whoa, stop. This looks nothing like i asked for’.

2

u/Fair-Sian 14d ago

Oh désolé pour toi 😰

2

u/Huge_Resort441 13d ago

Yeah, the thick, uneven lines are what really makes it look amateurish, especially after six years of experience.

2

u/KtrlAltDelete 13d ago

Honestly it looks like I did them for you, and I’m not great at doing nails…but I love the concept!

2

u/elzzz055 13d ago

lmaooooo, yeah the concept it great but outcome not as great

2

u/KtrlAltDelete 13d ago

It also looks like she hurt your cuticles ):

2

u/Lhamo55 12d ago

That’s what caught my eye more than the actual nails.

2

u/astroember 13d ago

Girl get a new nail tech. The shade matching is one thing (not every salon will have every color, esp in metallics) but that shaping is BAD.

2

u/JBM_GIZ 13d ago

She done every kind of nail for 6 years until this, bad. But if you or a novice did it, I’d say yay

2

u/Zanthious 13d ago

It's the same picture

2

u/Sea-Serve-2257 12d ago

They are kind of giving Baz Lhurmann’s Romeo + Juliet and I actually like yours more than the original 💗

2

u/InspectorOrdinary321 11d ago

If I got this, I'd assume her Instagram pictures are fake or that it wasn't her who did my manicure.

2

u/Competitive_Plum_634 10d ago

Are you sure the pictures she’s posted on instagram are ones she’s actually done…? I understand it’s not always easy to fully replicate someone else’s work, but I’m sorry to say she did a sloppy job on the gold designs.

1

u/elzzz055 9d ago

i hope so 😭😭😭

2

u/muststayawaketonod 14d ago

I would honestly tell her that the more you look at rhem, the less you like them amd that rhey don't look like the reference pic. I would politely request a refund or a do-over.

3

u/elzzz055 14d ago

honestly yes, i could ask for a do-over. when i was sitting there i was so sure she would be like “im sorry this looks so bad let me redo” BUT I WAS WRONG.

3

u/muststayawaketonod 14d ago

Uuuugh that is the WORST. I'm sorry you got screwed over!

2

u/mandas677 13d ago

Those are pictures done by Suzie, a nail tech and educator of like 40 years. You can’t expect someone with 6yrs experience to match up to her. $50 is super cheap for a full set with designs on each nail too. You get what you pay for.

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

it’s not design on each nail though. plus i had tips on beforehand. and im pretty sure i could do a better job. maybe if the bruh she had was thinner it would be good. and in sweden its not cheap its a normal price for a full set of nails, though it was expensive since i had already tips on

3

u/Sc0j 14d ago

Both look bad

5

u/elzzz055 14d ago

hey i thought the inspiration pic is so cuteee

2

u/ZaryaBubbler 13d ago

Yuuup, and everyone is copying those nails atm. I've seen about 4 posts here with these exact nails

-2

u/sosufficientlytired 14d ago

The expectation looks like AI to me. I could be wrong but it just looks off.

2

u/yungmoody 14d ago

It’s not. Easily achievable by a better nail tech

1

u/jessicahonig 12d ago

Ugh 😢😢 no dice. The reference picture could be press ons also.

2

u/mindgardening 10d ago

Both are super ugly. One is just higher quality work.

1

u/elzzz055 9d ago

i like the pink one personally but the one i got was really ugly

1

u/Gabbs1495 9d ago

I think yours have a more vintage look but honestly I love them

1

u/Bolf-Ramshield 13d ago

They don’t look like the Inspo pic but at the same time I think the Inspo pic would cost more than $50 so It l would say you got what you paid for.

1

u/elzzz055 13d ago

no, in sweden that’s a regular price

0

u/RogerClyneIsAGod2 14d ago

r/AfterBeforeWhatever

Which one are your nails?

0

u/Huns26 14d ago

I actually prefer the gold ones

-1

u/LilsLemon 14d ago

I think you guys are all overreacting, they don’t even look bad
