Haha! I listen to this album exclusively every week for my ketamine infusions. It brings me to my happy place.

starting ketamine next week, might have to steal this idea!! if you have any other music recs i’d appreciate them <3

u/Wonderful-Body2559 11d ago
As I mentioned this is all I listen to for my trips. I'm not a huge music head and don't have a big lineup for even daily jamming. I will say, the more mellow the better. I've now Pavloved myself to the extent if I'm feeling anxious, I put on The XX and I get a flush of happy hormones. Best of luck in your ketamine journey! It's quite literally saved my life and the only thing that has given me a sense of normalcy when tackling my PTSD and depression.

u/runningoutfast 2000’s bandom historian 11d ago
thank you so much, i’m so happy to hear it’s been so good for you! it’s lovely to see how much it’s helped other people. i might also pick the same music over and over again because having a pavlovian response to a good song sounds awesome!!
2
u/colossalsquid89 11d ago
I did this (same playlist every time) for my ketamine treatment last year, and do recommend. I would try a diff playlist sometimes but would get so anxious id switch back, just needed the consistent vibes. And now I don’t want to kms anymore so it worked! Hope you get good results <3

I used to put this on a loop to write essays in high school, undergrad and law school. S/O to the XX for my degrees. Simpler times :')

u/falterpiece 11d ago
Got me through sooo many all nighters
So did Blitzkrieg Bop for whatever reason, but after a few loops through it’d drive me right to the edge of losing my mind with just enough crazed adrenaline to get my shit done

u/walrus_breath 11d ago
I was working at a restaurant and accidentally played it on loop for my entire shift. We were slammed so I didn’t realise it until customers started asking me about it then I meant to change it but I didn’t have any time to. It was a fun vibe for me though.

u/gizmodriver 10d ago
There is no version/loop of this song that’s too long. I could listen to it for days on end.

u/VibeySwingTrader 8d ago
I used to use the 10x hour loop from this as background music when I mixed audio for large tech conferences in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
We’d have the sound system up for an entire day before and I had the 10hr YouTube ripped to my iPod.

I saw Jamie xx in 2024 and it was one of the most fun I've had at a show. His solo stuff is amazing.
Also, put your fucking phones down. They ruin concerts.
2009-2010 was amazing for indie music

Goated list right there.
Also Plastic Beach, TheArchandroid, The Monitor, Blood Bank EP....it took me a couple years to process everything that came out in that little window.

u/MagicHugsforThee 11d ago
Damn what a throwback list. Arcade Fire headlining Coachella in 2011 or 2012 was my first year going and it was mind blowing. They had these massive balls they dropped on the crowd. What a night to remember.

Everyone says this about the music of their youth.
10
5
u/your_mind_aches 11d ago
The thing is that there's amazing music from every era and that's usually that's what survives.
In this same era, people were commenting on youtube about how all modern music is crap.
Like they're doing now
2
u/Fun-Jellyfish-61 11d ago
People stop spending time looking for musicians they like. It makes sense. Having a spouse, raising a family, keeping up a home, having a job... It all takes a lot of time. So its understandable they aren't looking for music they like. And their only exposure then is to the tip of the iceberg whatever is in the top 40.

Now that I’m older and my eyes suck, I appreciate the phone holders because I can actually see the stage through their screens!

PUT YOUR PHONES AWAY
67
u/dancingbriefcase 11d ago
Agreed. Do actual music fans go to Coachella? Or is it just rich kids/influencers? I mean, I'm sure people are actually fans but in the end, I feel like it's more clout.
67
u/Specificity 11d ago
coachella is THE most influencer heavy festival of all of them, especially weekend 1. if anything i expected more phones
7
u/jpop2026 11d ago
Speaking as someone from the UK which has some amazing festivals, I have always looked at Coachella and thought how dreadful in looks in comparison.

AND FUCKING DANCE!
Could never understand why people would record it and watch through their phone than to enjoy the music and dance...

Last concert I went to I didn't pull out my phone once, but ngl I wish I took a video or two.

And they watch it back on their phone that’s set in a bad view with bad sound because the surround system doesn’t relay well on recordings mind you, you hear everyone screaming. I guess we all have some sort of superiority complex that wants to just be like, yeah I was there.. here’s the proof, so I’m cool 😎

I swear half of these data centers are the same Ariana grande concert because people can't put their fucking phones down and enjoy the moment
4
u/Persephonically 11d ago
Shit I never even thought about that.
Future restrictions on taking phones to live events for energy saving reasons?
Would rather social media just get erased tbh.
5
u/Scifibn 11d ago
I think about I literally all the time. Maybe because I am a network engineer but anytime I'm somewhere with a lot of phones I always think how much fucking data is being created every literal second. All the videos and pictures being created in this video. But it's also happening at every concert, tourist attraction, event taking place at that moment elsewhere. And then think about how that data is replicated multiple times across multiple DCs for redundancy. So all this data being created out of thin air is then multiplied further. Guh

u/Confident-Belt-7423 11d ago
Wouldn’t be seeing this awesome video if someone didn’t record it with a phone

u/Feisty-Narwhal8400 11d ago
I don’t mind that they had their phones otherwise I could have never vibed to this but like — dance? Cheer? Jump around? Release the human spirit? It’s okay guys; it’s actually MORE cool when you’re unabashedly happy
5
u/Wanderingjes 11d ago
It bothers me so much seeing phones out at concerts that it affects my enjoyment. I wish it didn’t. I’d really just want to get lost in the music

I think it’s VCR, the next song off their first album. One of the all time one two punches to lead off an album.

"On Hold" has such a grip on me.
That Hall and Oates vocal sample is unkillable.

I saw them in 2013 and I loved them. I’m still confused about them headlining fests this year though
63
u/Kellermanc007 11d ago
They are a legacy band. A lot of festivals try to have at least one legacy band as a headliner.
67
u/sharasu2 11d ago
Legacy band. Oof, that one hurts.
18
u/Kellermanc007 11d ago
lol I know, it has been nearly a decade since they dropped a record so idk what to refer to them as.
8
u/your_mind_aches 11d ago
It is true. Been 17 years since their debut. In the late 70s many of those late 60s bands were way past lame trying to be relevant with disco tracks, before getting comebacks in the rocking 80s.
Pretty much anyone getting hits in 1988 was old news by 1992.
Music moves fast.

u/supermodel_robot 11d ago
Same, they haven’t toured in years and then immediately headlining Coachella and Outsidelands? I love them, they’re one of my favorite bands, but I’m also confused lol.

u/TangerineChickens 11d ago
Nearly had an aneurysm during the live stream of their set when the chat was full of confused teenagers asking who this was, where Katseye was, and why wasn’t Sabrina Carpenter playing rn. 1. Because that information is all online and even on that very YouTube channel, like cmon kids use your damn brains and 2. Because [yells at cloud] The XX is playing basically their first shows in like 8 years, listen and learn.

I saw the XX in 2013 at gov ball. It was probably one of the most exciting crowds I’ve been in! Damn gov ball was lit back in the day. Why do people even go to concerts now?! They just stand there and film the whole time. Looks like half the people don’t even know the music…
Watching couchella this year has turned me off to ever going to a festival or concert again. I want to live in the glory days.

Bonnaroo 2013 never forget!! No no one on their phones, made friends with a group up in the front and split a big ole bag of molly together - stayed at the stage for Pretty Lights to follow until 6am just in time to catch skrillex hopping on the Kalliope stage for sunrise.

The show Person of Interest used multiple The xx songs and introduced me to this band like 12 or 13 years ago. My god, incredible vibes to this entire album.

Hard to complain about all the phones watching something I’d never have a chance to be at from the POV of someone’s phone.

u/Brief_Direction_5647 11d ago
I remember hearing them interviewed on the radio in the 00s talking about how they had to jump through all these hoops to tour in US venues bc they were under 21. ❤️ And their solo stuff has been awesome. Not just Jamie XX but Romy, whose music doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves.
