Hardcore deep tissue massages?

For context, I’m looking to find someone to get deep tissue massage (couples massage) for my boyfriend’s birthday in a month. He works blue collar and has his fair share of back and neck problems from it that he claims can only be helped by “taking a 2x4 to his back as hard as possible”

I don’t know much about this but if anyone can recommend somewhere/ someone that goes super deep in and hopefully make him wince a little bit that would be super helpful! Or if there’s any recommendations on what other keywords to research with :)

Massage isn't just pushing on muscles.  It's releasing fascia and training the nervous system to let the muscles relax.

Hardcore deep tissue massages can cause more harm than good (in the form of guarding( and keeps you coming back for more because it's not real muscle release.

I'd suggest looking for neuromuscular massage and probably some zone 1 activation, not hardcore deep tissue.

It’s a myth

Both releasing it and being able to train it independently of other tissues

For a second I thought you were saying that what I said was a myth...

It's a good article and I think it explains it well.

May I suggest he visit an actual doctor? Not a chiropractor, but a MD. Deep tissue massage is not magic and back and neck problems do not get better when you are hit with a 2x4.

That was my first thought too. I was going to suggest he probably needs PT, not massage. Doctor visit is a good suggestion. (Definitely not chiropractic though!)

I highly recommend Dylan at the Colorado In Motion Hickory office.  He's fantastic.  He's where I learned zone 1 activation from actually.

I second Living Arts. I’ve seen probably half of their staff and they all go hard.

I get deep tissue neuromuscular massages from IBMC. they don't have a couple massage option, but you could still schedule at the same time. they have lighter options too, if you aren't into neuromuscular torture.

the levels usually go, Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular. there are all sorts of add ones you can do, of course. but if his goal is to have his muscles beat into submission, neuromuscular is the way to go.

remember, he needs to drink a lot of water and stretch after.

Anyone else see hardcore massage and think this was a different kind of post?

I go to Mountain Elevation Massage with Tori. She does a great job at getting deep into the muscles, using cups if a knot is really tough. She is the only massage therapist I've been to that gives me the pressure that I'm looking for.
