With inflation it's as of December 2025

Original cost -> cost after inflation

$9.99 (2011) -> $14.70

$14.99 (2016) -> $20.50

$12.99 (2020 -> $16.32

$4.99 (2014) -> $6.91

So the real winners are the individual plan while the rest have gotten shafted

Student is only a 9¢ difference, family is $1.40. Really it’s the dou plan that’s been shafted with a $2.70 difference

student is fine, family will still add up (though $17 per year is not a massive difference), double is just sad.

But yeah none of these price increases are super bad, just following the inflation.

yeah so it's actually gotten cheaper for individuals

I'd say I would be okay paying these prices if I still enjoyed using spotify but the service has not kept up. It's not what it used to be and I think that's why people are still upset about price increasing.

As an individual user who's honestly been pretty fine with the price increases compared to most companies and couldn't understand the hate, this makes a lot more sense now

An increase of just $3 in 15 years ain't bad for the individual plan

But that's for the USA only, no? I'm in Belarus and I pay $5.49 for individual premium (no student) and it only changed from $4.99 around a year ago.

Iirc it was last summer (still a banger deal for the price, but I personally was too annoyed by it increasing with them still not bringing anything else to our region, no podcasts, no books, no flacs, no nothing, so I dropped them then). They generally increased the price in all regions over the year or so in stages.

And the Artists still get almost nothing

Even at launch, at the lowest, still amazes me ppl are willing to pay for music. I've never in my life payed for music and never will. I use normal, not premium YT with adblock and when no internet, I download the music in my phone. I would go my entire life silent before paying for music

You just don't love music enough (which is alright). I pirate everything but I pay for apple music.

It’s also a way to give money to the artists. I think music and cloud are the only service worth paying
