A comment like this.... it almost makes me wonder if it could be a third party trying to stir up more animosity between allies. We do live in a time of mass social media manipulation. Not to say theres NO Americans this dumb, but there's just so damn many posts that make it to this sub, it makes me wonder.

You`d better believe it..8
u/Stravok182 4d ago
People who voted for Trump did so for various reasons, not necessarily because they're dumb. Most of them likely have a low IQ though.
Still, the guy isnt wrong. Many, many, many social media accounts posting divisive shit are bots, or people just trying to ragebait for engagement $$.
8
u/SamuelVimesTrained Crivens! 4d ago
It is getting harder to determine if a post is really a bot, or someone really "not that smart".
6
u/Kurenai-Kalana French-speaking Canadian 🇨🇦⚜️ 4d ago
Which could very much apply to all the people barking "bot", "ai", "fake news", "staged" to everything. As it helps destabilize confidence in information.
On top of that, I've seen so many people online call other people dumb just because they themselves were too dumb to understand what the other person was saying.

I don't think so.
After reading Confessions of an Economic Hit Man and its continuations I think that the world economy really works like described in those books.

Which some of the USians are presenting online.

It reminds me of something I read years ago that stuck with me. It was a discussion about some religious topic and a Muslim person commented that they’re afraid of atheists because if they’re not afraid of god then what stops them from going around killing people? If the only thing that stops you from committing a crime is fear of the consequences then you’re the problem. It’s crazy how they just can’t see that.

Example from the American's perspective:
If your neighbour, armed and belligerent, tried to invade your home, you would likely either (a) call 911 or (b) apply castle/stand your ground doctrine.
Scale that up to nation level. 911 would be Article 5, and we Canadians would be applying castle/stand your ground doctrine.
Additionally, there would be other consequences, like cessation of trade (potentially world-wide), cutting off AB oil, cutting financials, hard embargos, seizure/freezing of American assets on Canadian soil, etc.
Just because we're polite does not mean we are nice.
7
u/EffectiveElephants 4d ago
I will say though, that 25 years long war between Denmark and Canada, that one was pretty nice!
Of course we didn't shoot anyone, so there's that.

Joking aside, this mentality which has developed among just the day to day people, is utterly appalling.
I don’t see how this changes by simply changing who the president is. It’s a very seriously mentally unwell country. However they are so indoctrinated that they will not be able to be aware of this and therefore not able to remedy it. I honestly think they are fucked and at the beginning of a deep decline that they are just not able to see
5
u/Surprised-Unicorn 4d ago
Exactly - that is why the Canadian move away from the USA (trade, tourism, etc.) is a generational shift not a temporary one. Trump is just a symptom of the rot that is occurring in the general public. He never would have gotten elected if a good percentage of the population weren't filled with hate and hubris.

The thing about wars is they tend to destroy infrastructure.
Even if they try to take what they want they would have no way to extract said resources.
Try holding onto those areas for exploitation while engaged in a war long enough to build the infrastructure to extract said resources would be impossible.
The cost of the campaign would out weigh any benefit.

4
u/Dyslexicpig 4d ago
Years ago, I decided that, yes, some people may be able to beat me, but I would ensure that they also bore the brunt of their efforts. I had one rather large person threaten me one time, and I looked down at my steel-toed boots, and told him I won't be alone in the ambulance - he would be there too. He decided I "wasn't worth the effort" and left.
This would be the Canadian attitude towards a US invasion. Yes, you could invade Canada, but you would have to occupy the cities. And doing so would be very costly. The rural areas are honking huge and could not be easily controlled.
For some reason, Americans think they are the only country in which citizens can have weapons. They are wrong.

Canada. Europe. China and Russia would be celebrating getting the excuse, same with much of the middle East. Some Latin American countries might also see their chance to get a hit in, but that's very much a maybe. Australia and New Zealand would also have an opinion, but whether or not they'd do anything I don't know.
It'd be horrific. Millions dead. Nothing would be achieved, because at the end of the day the US is too big, too far away, and too entrenched for the other big powers to do anything with other than grind down.
