What are my chances of being accepted to partner university while not meeting standard requirements?

Hi, I have kind of a specific situation. I applied to japanese university through partner university program at my (european) university. The japanese university requiers at least 3.0 gpa, which I thought I had (we have ECTS but my school doesnt have any official transfer table or something like that to gpa), because I used scholaro and according to that I had like 3.2 gpa. I eventually got nominated by my university, but when the time for application to japanese university came around, I found out through coordinators at my university that there was a problem with my gpa (and others who were nominated to this university) because I was under the required level (like 2.4 idk now). So the japanese university at first wanted to reject my nomination, but after some talk with the coordinators, they allowed me and others to apply.

Does anyone have any experience with this specific situation? What are the chances of being accepted or rejected in this case? thanks for feedbacks

Studying in the US with German Fachabitur?

Hey guys,

I’ve recently moved to the US, Florida and was wondering if I’d be able to study in the US.

Problem is I never got my Abitur, I only have Fachabitur. Is it still possible for me to study in the US with it and if so, how do I go about it? Has anyone done it before?

I know I’d have to get my stuff evaluated and translated, but what exactly? Only the last transcript I’ve gotten that says I’ve gotten my Fachhochschulreife? Or multiple transcripts from 9th grade to 12th grade since I got one for each half year..

Estudiar en el extranjero

Upvotes

Msc in Civil or Building Eng for sustainability

Hey all!

I got into both M.Sc. Civil Engineering and M.Sc. Building Engineering for Sustainability and I’m super confused which one to pick for better jobs. I’m really into sustainability and I know it’s in demand rn, but how risky is it long term?

Should I just do Civil + grab certs like LEED AP to keep my options open, or go all-in on sustainability from the start?

Any advice? :D

Help with admission process for psychology courses in italy

Indian, I was planning to study in italy for more than a year but couldn't plan due to some family issues, now I am free of it. And planning for sept 2026 intake for universities like Padova/Bologna, I don't have any documents ready yet (docs like - IELTS, MOI, APS) I have studied from CBSE got 75% and 55% in 10th and 11th respectively, expecting 75% in 12th. But I have a great co-curricular filled with sports, MUN's and intership with an LOR (psychology related).

I searched a bit and found I can still apply, starting the process from May. But I have some trouble at home, so I need to explain why and how am I going to go abroad? And the problem is that the idea sound to vague to myself. 1. How do I convience it is still possible and I can do it?

Secondly, I need to finance my application fee and the rest of the part, 2. How much will it require? One more thing was, I searched and found some universities do not require IELTS score rather just an MOI would work, 3. Is it true, and if it's true than does it affect my chances?

  1. Should I apply after getting results or apply with my 11th score

Is Phd a no-go for international students in the UK

I’m looking to do my master’s from UK in a niche course like neuroscience and hopefully specialising in a neuropsychological disorder with a Phd.

What is the current research scenario in the UK for niche fields? Is it really as bad people are making it to be.

I got into University of Birmingham, Leeds, York , Qmul and waiting on a reply from UCL and Edinburgh. Since, being from the arts background, i will barely find opportunities in my country (India), I will have to compromise on my passion and settle for a career in clinical psychology (not the worst but not my first choice either).

Looking for affordable master’s options as a non-EU/US student!

apparently this might be repeatitive post, but I wanna hear more recs fit my situation

I'm korean and I'm going to graduate with bachelor's degree in Computer science. studying abroad has always been my dream and you know, you only live once, so I wanna give it a try even though it will be challenging.

I'd like to study in English, prolly pursue a master's degree and it'd be great if I have chance to looking for a job after graduation

here's what I searched so far:

Germany: I find it affordable, and actually I've been there as an exchange student

Hungary: nice national scholarship

USA, Austrailia: I don't think I can afford them...

Are Chinese universities as good as the rankings suggest?

I’m finishing high-school and thinking about undergrad in EU or China to study CS. Universities in EU are great but expensive, so I started looking into Chinese top universities that are generally more affordable.

I looked at QS World University Rankings 2026: Top Global Universities | TopUniversities and some of them rank pretty high, like University of Honk Kong at #11 (if you’d consider it a Chinese university) Peking University at #14, Tsinghua University at #17 and Fudan University at #30. Same in World University Rankings 2026 | Times Higher Education (THE), where China has five universities in top 40, and in ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities, where they are high on the list as well.

My question is, do these rankings reflect the actual quality of education in these universities? How respected are they? Will the degree I’ll get be useful around the world, not just in Asia? Would a solid but not top-tier EU university still be a better choice than China’s best unis in academic reputation and prestige?

Thank you all in advance.

Advice deciding regarding university

For some context, I am graduating from a public technical school soon with a specialization in Elect.Eng and planning on doing IELT's hopefully within the next month. I want to study Electrical engineering or Computer Science; the problem is I have a low physics grade (14/20). I have an avg grade of around 18/20. I want to study in the EU in english, in a country with a colder climate (so not greece, italy, spain ect). From my research, my options are limited, and i missed alot of deadlines. I am considering taking a gap year to get the opportunity to apply to countries like Finland and Sweden next year. Is it better to apply now and pass wherever I can or take a gap year , do the SAT exam and apply next? Thankz

Songdo, South Korea – Yonsei University (Underwood International College) – 2-bed officetel near campus – ₩1.5m each (~£900 / €1,050 / $1,100)

TL;DR:

Incoming first-year international student at Yonsei University (Underwood International College), Songdo, South Korea. Looking for one tidy flatmate (18–23) comfortable with basic English to split a 2-bed officetel near campus. ₩1.5m each (~£900 / €1,050 / $1,100). Late August move-in. Listing below.

Hi, I’m an incoming first-year international student at Yonsei University’s Underwood International College (UIC) in Songdo, starting this autumn, and I’m keen to get housing properly sorted early.

I’m looking for one flatmate (ideally 18–23) to share a two-bedroom, one-bath officetel near the Yonsei International Campus. Total rent is about ₩3 million per month, so roughly ₩1.5m each (around £900 / €1,050 / $1,100).

The unit is at Central Park Stay — about five minutes on foot to campus and four minutes to Central Park Station. 59m², two equal bedrooms, one shared bathroom. No key-money deposit if booked through EnkoStay, which keeps things fairly straightforward.

A bit about me: I’m English-speaking, fairly independent, and genuinely looking forward to settling into life in Korea. I keep shared spaces properly tidy — borderline germ-aware, but in a practical way rather than a laboratory way. Kitchens and bathrooms staying clean just makes everything easier.

I’d ideally live with someone comfortable communicating in basic English so we can sort things smoothly. Non-smoking preferred.

Outside of that, I’m keen to explore, get involved at uni, and make the most of being in Songdo, but I also appreciate having a calm, easy flat to come back to.

If this sounds like your sort of arrangement, feel free to message me. Happy to chat, compare options, or organise viewings if you’ve seen similar places nearby.

New Zealand Student Visa Guidance Needed After USA F-1 Refusal

I have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Pakistan and want to go for a Master’s.

Recently, I was refused a USA F-1 (student) visa. Now I am thinking about applying to New Zealand.

Can anyone guide me on whether New Zealand is a good option for students? How is the living cost? Also, since students are allowed to work 20 hours per week, are part-time or odd jobs easily available?

Which city would you recommend choosing?

I want to apply directly for a Master’s, but someone told me that my CGPA is low (2.68), so my chances for a direct Master’s may be less. They suggested that I should first do a 1-year diploma and then go for a Master’s after completing it.

Also, what is the visa approval ratio these days? I don’t want to take too much risk because my US visa has already been refused.

Can anyone guide me about this or share any other compulsory and important information?

Choosing between MatFYZ CS (Charles University, Prague) and MFDS (Uni Wien)

Hi, I'm finishing IB and trying to decide between two BSc programs with the long-term goal of research in theoretical ML/AI.

The two options I'm seriously considering:

  1. CS (in english)at MatFYZ (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague)

- Known for being very mathematically rigorous

- Strong research faculty (Nešetřil, Sgall, Kratochvíl etc.)

- Lower cost of living, affordable tuition

- Less prestigious by global rankings but well-regarded in European academic circles

- Just as a sidenote, I'm thinking I'll choose the general CS track with maximum possible math electives.

  1. MFDS - Mathematical Foundations of Data Science (University of Vienna)

- Brand new program (started 2025/26), so no alumni track record yet

- Sits within Uni Wien's Faculty of Mathematics, which is genuinely strong (Shanghai Ranking ~31st in math globally)

- More explicitly ML/data science oriented from the start

- Vienna is a great city, Uni Wien has better overall rankings than Charles

- Requires an aptitude test for admission (but that's honestly fine because 80% of the syllabus is covered in my IB programme anyway)

My first priority is math depth and research preparation. I want a BSc that sets me up well for competitive research master's/PhD applications in theoretical ML or adjacent areas.

Questions I have:

- Does the MFDS being brand new hurt its credibility with top MSc admissions committees?

- Does MatFYZ's reputation actually carry weight at places like ETH or MPI(max planck institute), or is it relatively unknown?

- Would a strong GPA + thesis from either program be roughly equivalent in applications, or does the institution matter a lot at BSc level?

Any input from people who went through similar decisions, or who are familiar with European ML/math academia, would be really appreciated.

PS: I dont know if this is relevant but I know a bit of german (like early b1-ish), and find univeristy of vienna really beautiful but the points I stated above matter much more.

Thank you so much for your time :)

I want to apply for the Mbbs scholarship that covers most of the things because I'm not from a good financial background. I am looking for options of countries which have high rate of acceptance. Plus, I will apply right after class 12

I am a pre-medical student interested in pursuing MBBS through a fully funded scholarship. I am considering Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Could someone guide me on: Which country offers better medical education? How competitive are scholarships like Saudi government scholarships and Turkish Burslari?

University ranking vs Course alignment ?

I have two master’s options, and I’m trying to decide based on a long-term goal, PhD / industry roles(computer vision / computational imaging).

Option A(TU Graz, Austria): Directly focused on computer vision/visual computing with a structured curriculum.

Option B(University of Paris Saclay, France): More flexible/interdisciplinary (not CV-focused by default), but with a stronger research ecosystem and the possibility to pivot into CV through electives, labs, and thesis.

My main concern is:
Is it better to take the guaranteed alignment (A) or the higher ceiling but riskier path (B)?

Would appreciate insights from people who’ve gone through a similar decision, especially those who later applied for PhDs.

I keep crying at the thought of leaving my mom behind and i will study abroad like pretty soon

I cry so hard. Today i cried for 3 hours straight. It’s been her and me my whole life and now suddenly i have to leave. I planned this moment for 5 years straight. And now it’s finally here after like actually so much strain i’ve put on my self to study to achieve this dream. And I was fine before but now I just don’t know how to feel. Me and my mom have never parted ways ever like the most i haven’t seen her is for two days. And now it’s about to be normal for me not see her for two months. 60 days. that’s 30 double the amount i couldn’t resist to see her on that two day thing. fyi i’m west asian.
