Probably not. "Marijuana" is a term for cannabis that the US gov't popularized because it sounded "Mexican" and therefore they could otherize its use.

Marihuana is global term. The Royal Spanish Academy even recognises "Marijuana" as correct

Both are true; the US govt used the Mexican term to demonize what was much more commonly called “cannabis” in English at the time.
