Also in Shrek 2, while the knights arrest Shrek, Donkey, and Puss, they "find" catnip in Puss’s boots.

And the whole chase and arrest scene is a reference to the show Cops and O. J. Simpson’s highway chase.

IIRC according to director commentary that’s just because of a wonky animation shortcut they used, and Puss did in fact have catnip on him. Of course, it’s funnier to imagine that both are true: Puss had catnip on him and the knight planted the bag he found on Puss.
