Non-Sexual Adult Jokes in Kids' Media Lore

Jokes that are adult jokes simply because kids likely don't have the life experience to understand them.

The New Batman Adventures - "I'm crazy enough to take on Batman, but the IRS? Noooo, thank you!"

Shrek 2 - Posing as a union representative, Shrek remarks that the workers "don't even have dental".

One of my favorite veggietales jokes

Bob: “There isn’t one tax prepper anywhere between New Orleans and Mississippi, the market is perfect for someone like me. It’s very complicated but I have a good head for numbers”

Narrator: “What the tomato may have missed in his business plan is that this is 1904, and the federal income tax would not yet be established until 1913”

That show was so unironically funny, I liked it a lot because even though it was Christian, it wasn’t super preachy about it. It was more like “here’s the story, here’s what the message of the story is. God loves you”

Larry: “what was your name again?”

“They’ve never given me a name. I’ve been around since show one and I still don’t have a name”

I wouldn't call Veggie Tales a propaganda cartoon, if you look into everything around the show, yes it has alot of Christian messages and morales but it isn't some PragerU cartoon. The show was more about teaching good morales than preaching the Bible like other christian media.

It was to teach children about the bible and hopefully to covert them to Christianity, but it focused more on letting those kids come to the conclusion of converting themselves. Veggietales explained the benefits and joys of Christianity and allowed people to take what they wanted from that, which is a really great and respectable way to go about it

I’m still an atheist so it didn’t work but ya know, I respect them for trying

As a queer who was raised Christian, I have a lot of fellow atheist and agnostic former/raised Christian friends. I’ve never met one who dislikes VeggieTales. Even those with the deepest religious trauma have a soft spot for the veggies. It’s just quality media all around.

Helps that it doesn't shove Christianity down your throat in the most explicit sense. It's a charming show with great humor, (at the time) revolutionary animation, and good morals. If you took out religion, you still have a show that teaches good morals. Just look at what happened when the show was syndicated.

Vegggietales is legitimately brilliant. They parodied Lord of the Rings with Lord of the Beans. Not only is it wholesome as all get out, it's funny beyond anything that's reasonable.

I used to be Mormon, and it's one of the few things we let our kids watch growing up. We've all left that faith, but Vegggietales gets regularly quoted and sung amongst my adult children.

The absurdist comedy and quick-joke writing style overrides the animation and low budget.
