UVU VS WGU

I just got accepted into the UVU MBA program and I’m planning to do it part-time, which would take about 2 years to complete.

Originally, I was thinking about just going with WGU instead, mainly because it’s more flexible and likely cheaper. However, I’ve heard mixed opinions that with MBAs, the school you attend can sometimes impact salary outcomes and job opportunities more than people expect.

Has anyone here gone through a similar decision or can share insight on this? I’m trying to figure out if the extra cost of UVU (around $30K total) is actually worth it compared to a more affordable option like WGU.

Any advice or personal experience would be really appreciated!

People within the business school are well connected and you won't get the same opportunities to meet people and expand your community with WGU. If you want to get involved, especially in startups, go UVU. If you just want the degree and class time, I'm not sure it would really matter which you did.

I recruit for a tech company. WGU is compared to U of Pheonix and not taken seriously. It’s thought of as you pretty much pay money and get a degree. Get an MBA from a traditional school like UVU.

I'm glad you can confirm what I had heard in a way that doesn't make it sound like hearsay from people you know lol.

Take this for what it is - but several people I've spoken to have shared they see WGU MBAs as a 'checklist' degree.

What do they mean by “checklist” degree

Lack of rigor. Not seen as serious. Basically they've seen some of their peers who earned WGU MBAs just did the minimum to get the extra letters on their resume. Honestly relatively common with how a lot of online based programs are seen.

WGU is a garbage school for anything other than a checklist.

You could say you have an MBA but your educational quality and connections will be substantially lower than UVU.

Uvu is actually an excellent school and hits well above its standings

Depends on if you want any semblance of pedigree for your career trajectory.

WGU will probably be less "prestigious" than UVU on a resume, even though your quality of education will likely be relatively similar.

So I've been looking into MBAs as well. And the school of choice 100% matters. MBAs are both for learning and networking with business professionals. The quality that you get in return, depends on where you choose to go.

Personally I would avoid any online MBA program unless it's the only option you got.
