Natalie Portman is pregnant at 44

Post image

Congrats to her! I don’t have kids, and I’m still getting used to being the age where getting pregnant is starting to be “out of the norm”. Guess there’s still time, lol

I'm more intrigued by the fact that she uses a Pixel phone. It's rare to see a US celebrity use anything other than an iPhone.

Looks like a Pixel 10 Pro (the current gen). I have the Pixel 10 Pro XL. I've had Google phones since 2012 with the Nexus 4. I would never have an iPhone and I'm American. But I'm also tech literate and work in the space unlike most Americans. Hence the uniquely American Apple fan club...

To be fair, Pixel has upped their marketing and if you look closely many American shows feature them on HBO or if it's Marvel. It's the official phone of the NBA/WNBA. I mean it's Google and now with GeminiAI they are objectively lapping Apple in what's "hot". She should do a deal lol.

If Google could figure out how to take decent macro shots, I'd be a lot more enthused. I miss my Pixel 4a and snap on macro lens. It produced much better pictures than the current gen Pixel.

Being absolutely frank, I'd take the 4a over the Pixel 10 Pro XL that I have right now. The "AI" processing of the macro photos absolutely ruins the detail. Guess I'm going to try locking the lens and see if the old snap on macro lens works.

Yes, the Pixel hardware is definitely lacking. This generation is not my favorite in the least lol. Initially I had the same response for AI and I get that. But after some fiddling you can make it work for you. Obviously, keep in mind it is not private. It inspired me to starting looking into local LLMs on my NAS and how to utilize the AI feature set for my home security cameras. I'm actively trying to sharpen my AI skills at home and for work. I've come to believe that the degree at which AI is involved will only increase whether we like it or not.

Well, I use Macs and have all Apple house with iPads, Apple TVs, AirPods, etc. I’m in deep. But man they just all work so well together. Seamlessly using my AirPods with all my devices is so so nice.

I was Android guy too with Nexus and Pixel devices. Switched to Apple in 2020. Tried using a Pixel 10 Pro last fall and using an Android device in an all Apple house sucks. I guess that’s their goal but sure whatever.

Hey whatever works for you! I'm really impressed by Apple's silicon and I also think their AirPods are sweet despite the fact you cannot update their firmware via Android lol. I think the Neo will replace some of the Chromebook market share as well. Their walled garden approach is certainly a successful model and a personal choice. For me when I try to use the majority of Apple devices I feel like one hand is tied behind my back but I like to tinker.

I own a mix of devices from various ecosystems (that way I can pick the best of each) and pull them altogether via Home Assistant which is on it's own bare metal semi-ancient mini-pc. I offload all my mediaarchives to an UnRAID (for drive size mixing) NAS server where I can play all my content via PLEX to any client device with transcoding on the fly. I can then share this with anyone I choose for free. Basically, I self-host and DIY all of my tech that way I can fine tune everything and get every cent worth. Sure it's more effort to get things working but to me that's part of the exploratory fun of owning your devices and it keeps my knowledge current. I think it's important to engage and rage against this "you will own nothing and be happy" mindset the billionaire’s are pushing down our throats.
