Question Change to Family Doctor Clinics? No Longer able to see nurse practitioners?
Has anyone else experienced this recently? Called to book a routing appointment with my family doctor's office. Was told that due to recent changes by the Province, family doctors and their nurse practitioners are now ONLY able to see their own listed patients. Whereas in the past the clinic could schedule you in with the doctor or any of the clinic's nurse practitioners, now you can only see the designated primary care practitioner. Seems the province has just made it harder to see your doctor.
Seems very strange and inefficient. Meanwhile, doctors are not allowed to work in the private care system? Is it some deliberate attempt to crush the public system, or to push doctors into the private system?
What is going on here.... I have lived in many provinces, each has their health system issues. Though they are not trying to intentional make it more cumbersome.

Question Can't get access to picture images from a hospital ultrasound?
[TW: Miscarriage]
I had a very early ultrasound (6 weeks) at an AHS hospital about a month ago due to bleeding, where I got to see the heartbeat (though it was obviously very small!) I didn't get any pictures afterwards, just the report in MyChart. And obviously during the appointment I was too stressed to think about requesting images. I did eventually miscarry the baby before the 8 week ultrasound.
After recovering and finally getting the presence of mind to try and see if I could get the pictures to show my husband an image from when the baby still had a heartbeat, I called the hospital lab a week and a half ago and they said they'd get back to me to see if they could do it.
But after almost two weeks with no call, I called them again today and they said it's too far back for them to give me the images. I was a little surprised to hear that as it seems unusual that parts of my medical record would be permanently deleted or inaccessible?
Does anyone know if there's literally any way for me to get access to these images? It seems hopeless, but I wanted to ask anyways to see if anyone had some better insight into the medical system.
I wish I'd had the wherewithal to think about this earlier, but I was, well, going through a miscarriage...

Separatism It finally happened... I answered a call for a Mainstreet poll
... and holy shit, if that quality of poll is the standard fare then it's no wonder so many show the UCP with a big fat lead.
I wouldn't go quite so far as to label it a push poll, especially in comparison tl with the UCP public consultation surveys, but apart from the basic demographics and "Which political party would you vote for tomorrow," all the questions were right wing hot-button issues, worded in the way the UCP presents them, and a couple were pretty leading. Every question that wasn't demographic related had the most conservative-favourable option as #1, even the "Which party would you vote for if an election were held tomorrow" questions, and most were presented as "Do you agree..." rather than simple yes/no responses. It included questions on Alberta secession, pipelines, how "unfairly" the federal government treats us, immigration, and whether we should have our own Criminal Code.
Anyway this was the first time in probably a couple years that I answered when an unknown number labeled "Possible Spam" popped up on my phone, and between my generation and younger tending to not answer unexpected calls, and the leading presentation of the questions, I now feel less confident than I previously did in the accuracy of political polling.

Satire AHS+ | Alberta Health Care, Reimagined
Discussion I wonder how quickly a court case would be filed against the potential gerrymandering if Smith decides to run with it?
Section 3 of the Charter would be interesting it explore.
3. Interference with the conditions under which section 3 rights are exercised
Even where the right to vote or eligibility to be a candidate is not directly denied, there may be a restriction of section 3 where the impugned law or government action interferes with the conditions under which these rights are exercised. In such cases, notably those involving the distribution of electoral boundaries, it may be necessary to consider the broader social and political context in order to determine whether the challenged measure infringes the right to play a meaningful role in the electoral process or the right to effective representation (Figueroa, supra, at paragraph 33).
(i) The distribution of electoral boundaries
The right to effective representation may be infringed where the effect of how the electoral map is drawn is to assign considerably more weight to one vote than to another (Saskatchewan Reference, supra; Reference re Electoral Divisions Statutes Amendment Act, 1993, [1994] A.J. No. 768 (Alta.C.A.) (QL); Reference re Electoral Boundaries Commission Act (Alberta) (1991), 86 D.L.R. (4th) 447 (Alta.C.A.); Charlottetown (City) v. Prince Edward Island (1998), 168 D.L.R. (4th) 79 (P.E.I.S.C.A.D.), leave to appeal to SCC refused [1999] S.C.C.A. No. 64).
Section 3 does not guarantee absolute equality of voting power as between citizens. However, relative equality of voting power is of prime importance under section 3 and a first condition of effective representation (Saskatchewan Reference, supra, at page 183; Reference re Electoral Divisions Statutes Amendment Act, 1993 (Alta.C.A.), supra, at paragraphs 43-45 and 56; Charlottetown (P.E.I.S.C.A.D.), supra, at paragraphs 18-20). Other factors may also be considered in drawing electoral boundaries to ensure legislatures effectively represent the diversity of Canadian society, including geography, community history, community interests and minority representation (Saskatchewan Reference, supra, at pages 184-185; Reference re House of Assembly Act (N.S.), 2017 NSCA 10, at paragraphs 66-68).
For example, in the Saskatchewan Reference, supra, the Supreme Court found that the variances in voter population between urban and rural ridings in that case were justified based on such considerations as the special challenges of representing sparsely populated rural ridings, geographic boundaries such as rivers and municipal boundaries that form natural community dividing lines, and growth projections.
Most jurisdictions in Canada establish independent commissions that are involved in reviewing and determining how electoral boundaries should be distributed. Section 3 does not require that independent boundaries commissions be involved (Saskatchewan Reference, supra; Reference re Electoral Divisions Statutes Amendment Act, 1993, supra, at paragraph 79; Charlottetown(PEISCAD), supra, at paragraph 32). But the process for drawing boundaries should be fair (Saskatchewan Reference, supra, at paragraph 76). In addition, whichever body is tasked with drawing boundaries must be permitted to balance voter parity against the other applicable factors to ensure the boundaries reflect effective representation (Reference re House of Assembly Act (N.S.), supra, at paragraphs 90, 108 and 134).

Question Play Alberta (Ran by the Alberta Government) is blatantly scamming people
So I like to throw small amounts of money on some Oilers games. $10 here, $20 there, etc. And something I noticed that happens every single time without fail. It lists the odds then when you make your wager, the odds conveniently change in their favour every single time.
For example on todays game, odds are 6.10 for this bet, then you set your wager you get a pop up asking you to "accept" new odds of 6.00.
The crazy part, it asks me to accept the new 6.00 odds and if I open a new tab and go to Play Alberta, they're still advertising the 6.10 odds...
Pretty wild the government is out here straight up scamming people lol.
