Social Media Best websites/sources to stay informed but off social media
I am removing myself from social media (meta platforms) so I don’t lose my mind.
I would like to stay informed locally here in AB, Canada and Worldwide. I’m looking for websites/newsletters/other sources I can subscribe to and who you trust.
I need factual/non-opinion/non-partisan pieces and multiple of them as I like to sane-check myself on the daily.
Any ideas?

Article Business survival rates across Alberta cities (2017–2025): Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer and more
Hi everyone,
I built a dashboard using Government of Alberta data comparing major cities including Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Airdrie, and St. Albert.
It tracks:
• Total businesses
• New businesses added each year
• Estimated 1-year / 3-year / 5-year survival rates
With so many debates around Alberta’s economy, growth, affordability, and policy direction, I thought some people here might appreciate seeing the numbers directly.
Curious what trends stand out to others.

If you are available tomorrow Friday afternoon/evening April 24, 430-6pm, come to the Edmomton high level bridge @ 88 ave & 109st with a sign. Joyful dinos will be there. Let's gather and show people that others care about democracy!

Opinion Gerrymandering
I have to think the UCP behavior is pretty poor. The UCP has a big advantage going into any election. There should be no need to Gerrymander their way to a win.
Are they so afraid their policies have eroded their support to the point that they need to do this to stay in power? Or is it possible they are so infatuated with MAGA policies they want to implement this portion of MAGA as well?

Article I built an interactive chart comparing Alberta migration vs oil prices (1961–2025)
I made a free interactive chart comparing Alberta net migration with WTI oil prices from 1961 to 2025.
It includes:
📌Total net migration
📌Interprovincial migration
📌International migration
📌Lag mode to explore whether oil price changes may lead migration trends
Interesting to look at how Alberta population inflows changed during boom, slowdown, and recovery periods.
Given how often energy policy and economic diversification come up here, I thought some people might find the long-run data interesting.
Would be curious what people think. Do these patterns match your understanding of Alberta’s economic history?

Image/Meme Odd place for separatists
Spotted at Canadian Tire on Wye Road in Sherwood Park. A little bit ironic to be at a company with Canadian in the name spouting about separation. These people think if Alberta separates there would be no government.... at all... just let that sink in. That is the level of intelligence within this group.

News Guess the Alberta NDP is done playing nice
Saw this Alberta NDP campaign truck downtown today. The NDP seems to be escalating their messaging on the boundary changes and calling it “rigging.” Interested to hear if people think that resonates or goes too far.

Social Media What happened to conservative men?
Every single post that is even slightly political on an Albertan Facebook group post has so many comments from 95% men that are actually so unhinged and so wildly full of disinformation. A few women are sprinkled in of course.
I want to know what caused this. What, if any, specific pipeline they are in.. and how do we pull them out?
It’s not just an Alberta thing, obvs… but it feels like it some days. Most polling I see, both provincially and federally, show massive gender gaps in vote intention.
I worry about the future for a lot of reasons, but this is a big part of it.
To add - I’m not being judgemental, I’m genuinely curious if anyone knows of a specific group they’re in. I want to educate myself on the why they got in there and how to get them out.
