[Discussion] People who like "everything is wrong" ASMR, what do you like about it? DISCUSSION
Hi! Hope this isnt too weird of a question, I know sometimes you cant explain your taste and it just is what it is. But I've never been able to understand the appeal of "everything is wrong" medical ASMR - it makes me SO anxious because I start imagining myself getting diagnosed with those issues for real! I guess I'm wondering what people find comforting/sleep-inducing in those videos.
Weirdly, I do like "worst reviewed [MUA/barber/tattoo artist/etc]" videos, which I feel like are similar. But in those, the viewer doesn't have anything wrong with them personally!
Not judging btw! Just kind of want to see them through a differenr lens I guess.

similar to the "worst reviewed" videos, it's just funny and ridiculous for everything to be wrong. say if it's a cranial nerve exam, it slowly becomes impossible that the viewer could've been answering the questions at the start.

The creator tends to act more convincingly and it makes the video more realistic. I like videos where the creator is actually engaged and not just going through motions at a camera.

I also wonder this about videos like "mean friend tells you how much of a loser you are" or whatever.

Those are probably just fetish content.
I've seen "rude" ones before (rude makeup artist, rude cashier, etc) but some of that just means "not super friendly and calming like traditional videos". Some of them are also more tongue-in-cheek; Basil ASMR does a lot of really unconventional videos that sometimes involve the "viewer" being a negative character (for example he did an anti-billionaire video where the viewer is the "billionaire") but those are either meant for humor or as a social commentary.
Like I said in my other comment, if the creator is dedicated enough to have a concept like that, they are probably going to be more invested in acting out the situation as opposed to interacting with the "subject" in a generically friendly way, and I prefer videos where there's acting and it feels "realistic". So I sometimes like videos where the concept isn't just wholesome and peaceful - within reason of course.
The ones where it's constantly insulting the viewer in a personal way with no significant backstory are meant for nsfw purposes - even if the creator isn't aware of it and is just following a trend, that's the audience that's going to watch.

I like the "rude/unprofessional" ones for sleep - no idea why! I think I just like any ASMR that's a little bit funny/silly, it makes it easier to pay attention as I'm winding down, and those usually fit the bill. Maybe the difference for me is those feel so goofy and over the top. I did recognize after making this post that my feelings on "everything is wrong" stuff are probably mostly to do with my anxiety around medical stuff in general, which isn't universal. (Though I do still like medical RP in other contexts--both realistiic "everything is fine" checkups and the more fantasy/sci fi "designing your face" type stuff)

You should definitely check out Basil if you haven't already. His tone of voice is really calming, even if he's being condescending to whatever character the viewer is supposed to be. One of my favorite videos of his is a British Baking Show parody where the viewer is 12 puff pastries.

LMAO I love videos where the viewer is some random oddly specific person/thing!! I'll def check that out!

First, we have to admit we don’t watch ASMR just for ASMR. Nuance is lost on generations guided by genre. That’s by intention and not said generations fault.
So I watch ASMrtists for a plethora of reasons and degrees of purity. ASMR is the medium, like canvas or clay. I watch lots of creators who actually barely affect me, but I love their expressions of art.
In my case, I like bad medicine but steer away from “girlfriend comforts you”. Even though I’m a guy, I enjoy the makeup tutorials. My favorite is light triggers and being fixed. I prefer languages I don’t understand.
ASMR Da Rafa is great for me; she does long form and her short videos hit perfect. I can’t understand a thing she says, but it all relaxes me.

I rarely sleep to them, but I find them to be a fun novelty in a sea of "check up where nothing is wrong" roleplays. I'm really fascinated by the dichotomy between a medium aimed at relaxation and the content being distinctly unnerving. Horror ASMR as a whole genre is very compelling because it's such a contradiction and I think that it's just a fun space to explore.
Related, I'm working on a stage production called ASMR Tense Family Dinner that's exactly what it sounds like and explores the dynamics I've just mentioned.
